Hash marks

Was watching some games on YouTube and noticed at the start of each play the offense lined up with the center in the middle of the field and not on the hash marks. Do most coaches do this or do they line up on the hash mark. For me if the ball carrier runs out of bounds at the 30 yard line on the right side of the field I set the next play on the right hash mark at the 30. I feel that this is more realistic and affect both the offense and how the defense lines up. Looking for other coaches inputs on why they do it the way they do.

I use the hash marks like you do. On my 600 they are wider, so there’s even more of an effect. 
 

When a play is completed, the first thing we do is place the center where the ball carrier is. If it’s outside the hash marks, he gets moved laterally to the nearest hash.

I use the hashmarks exactly the way Nanook and  Zak99b5 do.  Why else have the hashmarks on the field? I agree that it adds some additional strategy potential to the game (wide side/short side plays and alignments for both offense and defense).  On the Ultimate field it is not as significant, but it is still a factor in my opinion.

Most leagues and tournaments set up in the center of the field. Don't  really know why other than that's just what they do. I use the hashmarks in my solitaire play.

In the TVEFL we set up in the middle if the field.

We started playing on smaller fields and so it was simply a matter of room.  

Last season we played on an Ultimate Field so we have the room now.  We just did not think to change.   I will propose that for next year.
