  1. I love your painting advice, point 6 is one that hits home to me. I would add some advice to painters to take advantage of different tools like ultra fine paint pens and permanent markers, they can really help with details.

  3. My next tournament will be " the 1970 after the merger tournament" because there were 13 teams in each conference i had to do a few 1st round byes...i decided to give each division winner of 1970 a bye....in the nfc ...dallas won the east...minnesota won the central and the 49ers won the west....in the afc the colts won the east...the bengals won the central and the raiders won the west....this was the first year that the AFL was absorbed into the nfl...and 3 old nfl teams joined the the 10 afl teams to form the AFC conference....in super bowl 1 and 2 the packers had dominated the chiefs and raiders and many people said the AFL would never compete win the NFL ...but the jets won super bowl 3 and the chiefs won super bowl 4....so the new alignment proved that the AFL belonged and thus a new era began....in the real 1970 season the colts ...steelers and browns left the old nfl and joined the afc to balance the 2 conferences so each would have 13 teams....the colts and cowboys survived and made it to super bowl 5 where the colts won 16 to 13.....we will see who wins this time around... The majority of the games will be played on my super bowl 11 field that is my version of the AFC and NFC field.....the super bowl 11 field has a great historical relevance to the old tudor because this was the last big 620 size field tudor made....the fields after this were scaled down.....i will begin this one soon and rotate games between the NFC and AFC matchups.....i look forward to it.

  4. Game 14 Chicago 35 washington 16 I remember watching the old nfl films where gale sayers said " give me 18 inches of daylight . that's all i need " ....sayers found the daylight and had a hall of fame type game with 5 touchdowns tonight....when i start out with the bears i always begin with the old double tight T ....and it was the only formation i used and sayers carried the ball every time....the bears led 21 to 9 at the half and sayers continued to run through the redskins in the 2nd half as well....charlie taylor stood out for washington with 2 tds ......great bears include : 40 sayers...51 dick butkus....41 brian piccolo...11 jack concannon....87 ed obradovich...29 ronnie bull...81 doug atkins ...89 mike ditka...and 55 doug bufone .....washington was represented by : 42 Taylor...43 larry brown...9 sonny jurgenson....70 sam huff....60 john wooten ...87 jerry smith....and 49 bobby mitchell.....up next is an afc central clash between the steelers and the bengals.

  5. Game 13 Raiders 24 chargers 3 I have been playing the great game of electric football for over 50 years....i can finally say i have seen it all....right before the end of the first half the chargers were driving and a simple hadle to alworth pass was intercepted by 00 jim otto...otto was heading toward the sideline then turned and rambled 82 yards to give the raiders a 21 to 0 halftime lead....great raiders from the past include : 35 hewert dixon...44 marv hubbard...21 cliff branch...12 kenny stabler....63 gene upshaw...41 phil vilapiano ...78 art shell...and 00 mr raider otto.....the chargers were represented by : 19 lance alworth...27 gary garrison....78 walt sweeney...74 ron mix...77 ernie ladd...and 23 paul lowe......next the bears vs washington ( this spear helmet washington team is my only team in my collection that arent original tudor ... 10. Game 4 Patriots 27 dolphins 22 Exciting game...lots of action...lots of pictures....the tudor original 1967 bigmen were the first nfl / afl figures tudor made and the old AFL teams only came in dark jerseys except for the new york jets who came in white and dark....this one was a classic in many ways. Bob griesie to howard twilley late in the game made it look like the dolphins would advance with a 22 to 21 win...but jim plunkett to randy vataha for a 72 yd td on the last play of the game gave the patriots the win 27 to 22.....great players from the past ( im sure ill butcher some names on the spelling ) ...12 grisie...39 larry czonka...22 mercury morris...81 twilley...67 bob kutchenberg....85 nick buonticoni ...75 manny fernandez ...88 jim mandich ..42 paul warfield..and 66 larry little are pictured for the dolphins....great patriots include: 35 jim nance...30 carl garrett...18 vataha ...16 plunkett...73 john hannah....34 ron sellers...72 larry Eisenhower and 20 gino capaletti were some of the great for the patriots....up next is an old nfc west classic between the 1969 hogleg rams and the early 70s hong kong chickenleg falcons.

  11. Game 2 Steelers 13 bills 7 ( overtime ) This was one of those games where oj or franco picked up 4 or 5 yds on first down then that was followed by a 2 or 3 yd loss and an incomplete pass on 3rd down...oj broke one nice run for the entire game and bradshaw hit 2 big td passes to te 84 randy grossman ...1 in overtime and the steelers move on to the 2nd round.....great steelers from the past include : 84 grossman..12 bradshaw...20 rocky blier...52 mike webster...75 joe green and 68 lc greenwood.....former bills include : 32 simpson...40 jd hill...81 bob chandler...79 ron mcdole...66 billy shaw...and 67 reggie mckenzie.....next up will be the lions vs the saints....i still remember sitting in the little tv room when i was probably 11 or 12 years old watching the breaking news on cbs of tom dempsey kicking the 63 yd field goal to beat the lions...

  12. This yellow helmet washington team is real special to me rick...i spent 20 years trying to find them...i just lucked up one day ...some of these old orginals are hard to find...i think they have lost more than they have won since i got them...but i always enjoy using them.

  13. Charlie, I almost forgot that when Lombardi got to Washington he changed the helmets and uniforms to look similar to the Packers (only in red and yellow instead of green and yellow). Looked really good!

  14. I went to the tournament style about 20 years ago...i am a collector of the old tudor original teams....the majority of my teams are 1969 hoglegs...i have a few early 70s chickenleg and 1967 bigmen....i keep the 26 teams after the merger in dark and white...i like the tournament style because i use every team at least once and every game has meaning because a loss and a team is out until the next tournament.. I typically can play a game in about an hour and 15 min and i dont have to sit there for hours or have a game last for days...this tournament will take 25 games to play from start to finish..i like that too instead of trying to play a whole season schedule....everyone has different ways to play this great hobby of ours but this one works best for me.

  22. I'm working on it. I have some ideas but will need to play test it over the next couple months. Hopefully with my new Packers & Bears uni-form figures. I suspect it will end up being an off-field expansion that may have bonus power-ups for electric football... things like keeping the fans happy or new stadium packed house might result in bonus 10 yard card being played to improve field position etc. Could also expand to an "adult" version with steroid use, concussions, child support payment lawsuits and violating Covid protocols impacting player effectiveness... I'm sure the NFL and NCAA contractually forbid such things though. 🙂

  23. Thanks for the stadium info. I have the 1970 or 71 rams/ cowboys 620 that uses the punch outs. I bought the game at a flea market when I was 12 or so. I also have the insert types from mid 1970s board is long gone. I do have the original Vikings/ falcons teams. Not sure where or when they used stadium in the first pic but it is incorrect to the game.

  32. I put the ball on the 50...i line up both teams on each 40 ...i have 2 lines of 5 and 1 guy behind the middle man in the 2nd line....first one touches the ball gets possession.....in my rules the onside kick can only be used in the 4th qt and the team must be behind or tied.
    1 point
  33. 10 plays per qt...kickoff and punts count as a play too...extra points dont....usually takes me just a little over an hour to play a game.....i would guess my average scores would be 21 to 17 or something close to that.

  39. Thinking about my next tournament ...i think ill go with 13 nfc and 13 afc following the merger in 1970....ill play the games on my super bowl XI field ( Raiders vs Vikings) ...great graphics and it was the last big 620 the old tudor made...the first round games will be in the divisions at the time...( east..west..central )....the east in both conferences had 5 teams...the other 2 had 4 ...so i drew out one team to get a bye in each of the eastern divisions....the colts get a bye in the afc...the cardinals get a bye in the nfc.....first round games will be as followed: Nfc west....w rams vs d falcons....w 49ers vs d saints.... Nfc central...w lions vs d bears...w vikings vs d packers Nfc east....w redskins vs d giants....w eagles vs d cowboys....cardinals get bye Afc west...w chiefs vs d chargers...w broncos vs d raiders.... Afc central...w browns vs d bengals...w oilers vs d steelers Afc east....d patriots vs d dolphins ...w bills vs d jets ....colts get bye All the teams playing in the first round will be original tudor 1969 hoglegs except for the w chicken leg vikings from early 70s....and the patriots and dolphins will be tudor original 1967 bigmen.....ill probably start the tourney in about a week.

  42. Another champion is crowned Oilers 17 browns 13 A surprise snow storm rolled in ...i bought one of tudors snow covers along with one of their older championship board fields on sale...the 36 x 18 field was a perfect fit for the snow cover and it looks cool.....the game was a good one that really got exciting in the 4th qt....the oilers led 7 to 6 at the half but some late big plays really made the game a thriller...i thought the browns were going to win because jim brown took a middle screen pass from frank ryan the distance with only 3 plays left to take a 13 to 10 lead....this was after frank ryan had made a great scramble on 4th and 12 to keep the browns alive....but then george blanda found te mack alston for a 48 yd td pass and the oilers pulled it out 17 to 13.....great players from the past include : 13 frank ryan...32 jim brown...71 walter johnson..44 leroy kelly...86 gary collins...66 gene hickerson...72 jerry sherk....and 42 paul warfield for the browns....super bowl champion oilers include : 16 blanda....44 charlie toler...00 ken burrough...82 alston...90 george webster....and 65 elvin bethea.....ill have to draw up a new tourney and play a couple more snow games before i put away the new field for awhile im sure....one thing about it...new field or old field...this game and hobby we share stands the test of time !

  46. Bob, Yeah I'm big on keeping the teams in their original cities. I didn't have any Super Bowls my first two seasons, as I only had 5 teams in my league. My 4 Super Bowls were as follows: Eagles vs. Packers (Eagles won) Cowboys vs. 49ers (49ers won) Steelers vs Packers (Packers won) Rematch of Steelers vs Packers (Packers won again (Mel Blount was out hurt and Lofton, Dale, and Sharpe ate up Dwayne Woodruff)) BTW, I agree with nefgm, there is no right way or wrong way to play. It is whatever floats your boat and makes it fun for you.

  47. 10-12 plays per quarter. That's been the standard for us for a very long time.
    1 point
  48. Interesting--I've never thought about that, but it makes total sense that you only need a back of the end zone if you can pass the ball to a receiver who's in it. A Canadian board with two 25-yard end zones (plus the 55 yard line) would have to be ginormous to get a decent scale to the players! That's forty yards longer than an NFL field.
    1 point
  49. Hmm ... something I never noticed, but true. Seems to be pretty common on a lot of the old field designs. The worst I have ever seen though is on a 1971 Munro Canadian Edition game board that I have. It only has 11 yard endzones at a time when the endzones in Canadian Football were supposed to be 25 yards deep. But accordng to a 1972 Canadian Football Rule Book, that I have, on fields that are less than regulation: If the natural boundary of the field is less than 25 yards behind the goal-line, such boundary shall be the dead-line. And since you got my curiosity up, I measured several others. Some of the 500 models have short endzones by about a yard. Even the most recent Tudor game boards, that I have, have longer endzones by a yard or two. And... for the history "nerds"... um "buffs", like my self (LOL), the only reason we even have endzones today is because of foward passing. Originally, way back when, forward passing beyond the goal line wasn't allowed. The fields were 110 yards long at that time also.
