I have been playing the great game of electric football for 52 years now....this has to be the best game ive ever played.....leroy kelly scored 5 tds for the browns..franco harris scored 4 tds for the steelers...the steelers led 24 to 14 at halftime...it came down to the last play and the steelers had the ball on the browns 7 yd line.....bradshaw had no one to throw to and the game ended 35 to 31 for the browns....great players represented include : 32 harris...52 mike webster...63 ernie holmes...58 jack lambert....75 joe greene and 88 lynn swann for the steelers....great cleveland players from the past include : 44 kelly....32 jim brown..89 milt morin....60 john wooten....77 dick shafirath and 66 gene hickerson.....( hopefully i didnt butcher the spelling too bad )..the browns move on to the eastern finals and will face the eagles.....next up is the western conference final between the packers and the rams.

Packers 24 Rams 14

The green bay packers move on to the championship game with their 24 to 14 win over the los angeles rams. The packers continue to win with the punishing ground attack of jim taylor and paul hornung....hornung scored 2 tds and taylor had 1. The packers will face the winner of the eagles and browns in the championship game. Great players from the past include : 31 taylor...5 hornung...87 willie davis..63 fuzzy thurston...64 jerry kramer...66 ray nitschke....22 elijah pitts....and 24 willie wood of the packers....the rams represented are : 66 myron pottios...76 rosey grier....74 merlin olsen...75 deacon jones...84 jack snow...34 les josephson...and 33 willie Ellison.

The browns will move on to the championship game and will face off against the packers. Once again the browns featured the 1 -2 punch running game of jim brown and leroy kelly.....each had a td ...the other browns td came from frank ryan to paul warfield pass play.....the eagles lone td came on a pass play from norm snead to pete retzlaff......former greats featured today include : 32 brown..44 kelly...13 ryan....42 warfield...77 dick shafiraff and 76 lou " the toe "groza.......for cleveland......former great eagles include 44 retzlaff...16 snead....60 chuck bednarik....88 gary pedigrew...and 18 ben hawkins......i will add a comment with the scores and pictures of the browns and packers road to the championship game.

The championship game is between 2 old school nfl franchises...the green bay packers and the cleveland browns.....the packers defeated the falcons 17 to 10...the bears 21 to 14 and the rams 24 to 14......cleveland defeated the cowboys 14 to 0...the steelers 35 to 31 and the eagles 21 to 9.

Browns are NFL CHAMPIONS

The browns went into the locker room after 2 quarters leading 13 to 7 . and it was good enough to hold on to be crowned champions. Jim brown scored on the first play of the 2nd qt. Then 3 plays later jim taylor scored for the packers to tie it up at 7. Leroy kelly scored for the browns on the next to last play of the half but the kick failed. The packers made a serious threat midway through the 4th qt as bart star connected to elijah pitts on 4th and 3 at mid field to keep the drive alive. But when the packers faced another 4th down a few plays later...star had no one to throw to and the browns ran out the clock.....great players from the past include : 32 Brown...44 kelly...86 gary collins...16 bill nelson...89 milt morin and 60 john wooten for cleveland....great packers pictured include : 31 Taylor...24 willie wood....85 max McGhee....87 willie davis...89 dave robinson....and 5 paul hornung.....ive decided to go ahead and play the afl bracket and i drew 8 names out of the possible 10 afl teams....im going to pay tribute to the old afl and play the 4 first round games on the little afl field...that came with chiefs and jets until tudor ran out of those 2 teams because the jets were so popular after winning super bowl 3....from my research tudor starting putting in bills..patriots...and dolphins until they could replenish the chiefs and jets... So game one to honor the old afl will be bigmen bills and bigmen patriots on the afl field.

Starting the AFL bracket....using the small AFL board to play at least the first 4 games...i was very happy with the board performance for the first game between the 1967 original tudor bigmen bills and patriots...the board was smooth and quiet....its probably the first time ive used a small board in about 50 years.

the patriots led at the half 10 to 7 ...but the 2nd half belonged to the bills and they will move on to play the winner of the jets and dolphins.....great old AFL / AFC stars from the past include: 32 oj simpson...12 joe fergueson...66 billy shaw...25 haven moses...79 ron mcdole...64 harry jacobs...and 34 cookie gilcrist....for the bills....great patriots from the past include : 35 jim nance...30 carl garrett...72 larry eisenhouer ...73 john hannah....16 jim plunkett..and mr patriot ...20 gino capaletti....lots of pictures today.....and the next game ill move to the west and play original 1969 hogleg chiefs vs 1971 hkbs chargers.

When did the goal posts get moved to the back of the end zone? This is something that I never considered in my solitaire games. But I should when using my older teams.. I wish I still had my game from the seventies.

I think the goal posts were moved back in the early to mid 70s...several of the old tudor games have holes in the back and front ....the 613 midsize  bears vs cardinals...the 520 size ( packers vs colts and the afl chiefs vs jets games ) ...i think because these 3 games endured for many years ...tudor adapted to the new nfl. rules by adding to their game board the ability to move the goal posts back to the endline.

The big 620 grass endzone ( browns giants ) didnt have the option to move the goal post to the back line because i think 1969 or 70 was the last year they were produced....i remember watching an old nfl films show one time and the players were so happy they had moved them back because they were tired of running into them.

In the NFL Goal posts were moved to the back of the end zone in 1974 in response to player safety and long distance field goals were becoming too common place. College football has always had the goal posts at the back of the end zone. That is why you often see game boards that have the holes at the back and on the goal line. It is usually just on the generic models. NFL models prior to 1974 (1967 - 1973) are usually the ones that only have the holes for the goal post at the front of the endzone.

I thought about that last night after i responded...the nfl midsize 613 would be the same as the college board game with the checkerboard endzone...and the small packers colts and jets chiefs would be the same as the generic 500 that came with amber and plain white figures....u nailed it !

Chiefs 17 Chargers 14

Jan stenerud was the hero of the moment as he kicked a 57 yd fg to give the chiefs an exciting win and advance to the 2nd round to face the winner of the raiders and oilers matchup. Mike garrett from the chiefs had 2 rushing tds. The chargers scores came on a paul lowe run and a pass from john hadle to dickie post......great chiefs from the past include : 21 garrett...63 willie lanier...16 len dawson...55 ej holub...and 89 otis taylor.....chargers represented include : 23 lowe...22 post...21 hadle...74 ron mix...and 19 lance alworth....ill stay in the western bracket for raiders vs the oilers ......the afl bracket has 8 teams...their were actually 10 teams when the merger occurred but i drew names and the broncos and bengals didnt make the tourney....also in a twist george blanda will qb the houston team who he played for in the early to mid 60s....i always split my raiders teams to feature lamonica for one team...and stabler on the other....jim plunkett who came on in the late 70s and early 80s to win 2 super bowls for the raiders i put on the patriots where he started....4 great qbs who all played for the raiders at one time.

Im sure somewhere in history in the early 60s...george blanda kicked a last second fg to beat the raiders when playing at houston....george did it again and the oilers will move on to play the chiefs. Great stars of the past include : 00 ken burrough...90 george webster for the oilers.....great raiders of the past include : 21 cliff branch...44 marv hubbard...00 jim otto...63 gene upshaw...and 78 art shell....next up will be the jets vs the dolphins....the afl bracket has had low scores so far....maybe namath ..boozer...snell and Maynard....or griesie...czonka...morris ...and company can put some points on the scoreboard.

Matt snell had a HOF game scoring all 4 jet tds... Snell rushed for 3 and had a pick 6 for his other score...the AFL bracket is now down to the final 4....the jets will face the bills and the chiefs will play the oilers....i think ill go ahead and play the semi final games on the small AFL field then ill pull out the super bowl 3 board to play the AFL CHAMPIONSHIP ON and then the AFL CHAMPION will face the BROWNS in the SUPER BOWL....GREAT STARS OF THE PAST INCLUDE: 41 snell...52 schmitt...75 winston hill...86 verlon biggs...61 bob talamani....and 81 gerry philbin for the jets.....great dolphins from the past include : 22 mercury morris...85 nick buonticoni ( i never spell that one right ) ...66 larry little..42 paul warfield...and 53 bob matheson.

#79 wayne moore was an outstanding offensive tackle for the dolphins for the almost all of the 70s.

Oilers 30 Chiefs 3

Best way to describe this one was just and old fashioned butt kickin...i brought out the super bowl 3 field for the last few AFL games....  .the chiefs and lenny dawson threw 3 interceptions....the oilers led 14 to 0 at the half...received the 2nd half kick and made it 20 to 0 early in the 3rd qt.....george blanda had another good day for the oilers with 2 td passes and even had a 40 yd run too.....great players from the  past include : 16 blanda...44 charlie toler...00 ken burrough....82 mike renfro....and 52 robert brazil.....for houston.....the chiefs were represented by 89 otis taylor...86 buck buchannon...63 willie lanier...45 robert Holmes and...51 jim lynch....the oilers move on to the afl championship to play the winner of the bills and jets.

In the old tudor teams....the first run hogleg jets were painted like the bigmen with one shoulder stripe...the later version jets had 3 stripes on the shoulder and arms...i have both sets and will use the first run set this game....and i always liked the red white and blue of the bills.

Ill try not to write too much but this one was one of those " WOW" games.....the great thing about electric football to me is sure we sometimes get the perfect hole off tackle and the rb turns runs straight out of bounds...or a couple guys are playing ring around the rosie sometimes....but then u get one of these when the bases run fast...the back waits on the play to develop and then hits it straight and fast...big plays and a few almost human like plays happen...and you just sit back and say...what a game this one is....i watched oj just seemed suspended in animation and then when the hole open he looked like he was shot out of a cannon heading straight for the goal line....i watched don maynard weave his way down the field on a 98 yard touchdown and then i watched cookie gilcrist come out of no where on a dead sprint and almost catch him....what a great game we play.....what a great way to spend about an hour and a half.......great players from the past include : 13 don maynard...41 matt snell...83 george sauer..32 emerson boozer....75 winston hill and 66 randy rasmussen for the jets...great bills from the past include 66 billy shaw...34 cookie gilcrist....40 jd hill....79 diron talbert...81 bob chandler and 32 simpson.....next up is the AFL CHAMPIONSHIP the jets will play the oilers.....the winner will move on to the super bowl to play the NFL CHAMPION browns.

People complain about dead spots in the game boards, but it is those dead spots that make these types of plays happen. That is what I love about playing the game. The unpredictability of the play results. No matter how many times you may think you are setting up a play exactly as you did before, there is no quarantee that you are going to get the same result everytime.

Some games are just more realistic and i think it is what makes this such a great game....sometimes i play a game when the bases stink and nothing goes right...and then the next game has one great moment after another with the same bases on the same field....electric football ...what a great game !

I agree.  Some dead spots give the receiver a chance to make a move on the db or the ball carrier to juke away from a tackler... At least that's the way I look at it.  And you guys are right no play works the same way each time, even with the same players and bases!  Hmmm, sorta like real football. 😊
