  1. Hi. Order at least 1 of each. That's not your rational side talking to you. I usually order my bases three bags at a time. Why do I do that?πŸ€” After several decades of buying bases the Law of Diminishing Returns has set in. πŸ“ˆThe law of diminishing returns is an economic principle stating that as investment in a particular area increases, the rate of profit from that investment, after a certain point, cannot continue to increase if other variables remain at a constant.πŸ“‰ I figure I've had good fortune if one base out of twelve bases makes a team. Enjoy the Journey. T43 🍺

  7. Hi. The Bay Area Electric Football League 2019 Rules Manual has some interesting rules that touch on throwing the ball away. "If a stationary quarterback falls down, forward progress is marked at forward part of the base. At that point, you can throw the ball to an eligible receiver, throw the ball away, or use a scramble if one is available to continue the play. Otherwise the QB is down on the spot. A fallen QB may still throw a forward pass as long as no contact has been made by a defender to the QB’s base or body which would result in a sack. The quarterback may drop back no farther than 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. If his base completely exceeds the 20-yard distance from the line of scrimmage, it is considered a coverage sack and the quarterback may not throw a pass. He is considered down at that point beyond 20 yards. The sack yardage cannot exceed 20 yards under these circumstances. Each coach is allowed two (2) quarterback scrambles per half...The play develops as a pass play, and when the board is stopped, the twenty- second clock is started. If the offensive coach announces scramble, the twenty-second clock stops. At this time, the defensive coach adjusts all unengaged defensive players. The offensive coach can now re-adjust the quarterback in any direction he desires... The board is turned on and develops as a normal pass play. If the board is stopped again to pass, the twenty-second clock is turned back on and the passer only has the remaining amount of time to complete the pass. If time expires before the ball is thrown, he is considered sacked at that point. If the QB decides to run the ball for a forward gain the switch is handed over to the defensive coach to continue the play..." Whenever you see ellipses it means I've deleted sentences. I use the 20-yard drop back limit and a coverage sack cannot exceed 17 yards. A QB can either pass, or run, but cannot throw the ball away. Enjoy the Journey. T43 🍺
  8. Hi Greg. The red prongs do well because the front prongs are adjustable. The red prong bases are naturally fast and the addition of 2 grams of weight makes them bulldozers. The Red Prongs have one won Fruit Bowl (my equivalent of the Super Bowl). The steel bases only have two prongs (front and back) and the prongs are wide and not adjustable. The steel bases have never won a post-season game in my league. Yet, I would never abandon the steel bases to the dumpster because some day I might find a steel base on eBay that deserves the Franchise tag. πŸ˜ƒ Enjoy the journey. T43
  9. To everyone in the Forum, I watched this video and my heart just broke when I thought about Vinnie attempting to pass with the triple-threat QB. It further disturbs me that electric football leagues continues to advocate for the triple threat QB. My friends and I stopped using the triple threat QB in high school. I use dice to determine completions, interceptions, and incompletions. The Tudor webpage offers Passing Sticks as an alternative to the triple-threat QB. I've read about leagues that use cards instead of the triple-threat QB. I can't speak for Vinnie, and I wasn't at the tournament, but it seems any of these passing options might have made the APEX tournament a more enjoyable experience. T43
  10. Some individuals have so much moral and intellectual fortitude. Vinnie Stone is at 4th and 99 yards to go and he's still dropping back to pass. He's scrambling and keeping his eyes down field. Vinnie simply can't be sacked by anything life throws at him. Let it rip, Vinnie. Excellent story.
  11. Yes, those seven historical teams are my core. They are my favorites. Then, I have sixteen Tudor teams and five ITZ teams that I use when I have a themed Double Elimination Tournament. T43
  12. Hi Coach Greg and Coach Shawn When Tudor went out of business, πŸ˜” and before Miggle started producing bases, 😍 I use to remove all the bases and put them in a barrel. Then I'd blind draw bases for each team. I called this shuffling process my draft. I'm not sure what Curt means. I do like creating teams by base type. My Oughtin' Otters ride on Tudor Aqua single-clip bases. The book The Unforgettable Buzz: the history of electric football and Tudor, describe the Aqua single-clips as "(T)he No. 620 has some of the most notable firsts of all time. Next, these players were sitting on Tudor’s aqua color bases, which at various times in Electric Football history have been viewed as β€œprized” finds, due to the speed and strength they show on the vibrating gridiron." The Aqua Single Clips are strong and fast and I have collected 60 bases. However, TTC bases are generally stronger but not as faster. My Red Rhinos ride on Red Prong TTC. Once again, the TTC bases are stronger and more consistent. I wrote about this in a previous post. My Thunderbirds ride on Tudor's Green Ghosts. These are TTC and Rookie bases and I've found them to be strong, straight, and consistent right out of the bag. I believe Tudor has stopped producing Green Ghosts. My Suncats ride on Playtime's butterscotch bases and once again I've found them to be strong, straight, and consistent right out of the bag. I'm eager to find out how the bases perform against Coach Shawn's ITZ bases. My Luna Bears ride on Tudor's purple convention bases with black dials. I believe Tudor has stopped producing black dials. My Iron Horse team rides on the steel bases Tudor created for their very first game in 1949. My other teams are subject to the Necromonger Double Elimination Tournament. I posted my bracket recently. Seven of my teams represent a history of Tudor bases. I guess the natural question is, how do those old bases successively compete against 21st century bases? First, I increased the weight for all of my teams. Speed times weight = momentum. The faster Aqua Single-clips and Red Prongs are now very, very strong. Second, I adopted the Stop Forward Progress tackling. In the movie, Remember the Titans, Coach Boone (Denzel Washington) is describing his offense. β€œI run six plays, split veer,” he says, β€œIt’s like Novacaine. Just give it time, it always works.” Enjoy the journey. Cheers! 🍺

  14. Hi. Just finished game 8 of my second Necromonger double elimination tournament. Necromonger is from the Science Fiction movie Chronicles of Riddick. Necromongers have a code: "You Keep What You Kill," ☠️ which is appropriate for this season because in the Second Round the winning team gets to keep all the best players from the losing team. The remaining players and bases return to the spare parts boxes and wait for the next tournament. So, in Game 7 the Christmas Spirit killed and took the best players of the GTO. In Game 8 the Metallians will take the best players of the Valkyries. In my role as the Necromonger Lord Marshall (commissioner?) this is my second favorite part of the hobby. Playing the game with such high stakes is my favorite part. To start this tournament I bought 10 bags of Tudor Red Convention bases (TTC and Rookie bases) and created seven teams. They are the Big Horn Rams (last years Necromonger champion) Christmas Spirit, GTO, Buccaneers, Polaris, Sirens of Titan, Valkyries, and Metallians. The Metallians won the Heavy Metal Double Elimination Tournament. Each team has twenty players. The only tweaking I did was to make sure the prongs were tilted back. Then I figured out what positions the players naturally played. I didn't add any weight. Here is my 2012* Necromonger Double Elimination Tournament bracket. (* 2012 because I've missed a few seasons for little things like graduate school πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ“, moving across the country 🚚, and Tudor going out of business. 🚷. Thanks for reading. Cheers. 🍺 2012 EFL Necromonger Season 2 Schedule .pdf
  15. Hi Shawn. First and foremost, I really enjoyed watching your videos. Thank you! πŸ˜ƒ I run slants, pitchouts, and naked bootlegs where the offensive line Influence Blocks and β€” like you β€” I depend on the, "(T)he speed and dependable run arc of the runner." I also use Traps to create holes for the ball carrier. In the video the Thunderbirds tackle #79 and Tight End #92 run backwards to "pull" the defense away from the play. In the video I turn the players around so it is easier to see what's happening. In this quick hitter the Fullback #47 follows the left guard #62 through the hole. Golden Grizzlies Nose Tackle #67 is the only one who can make the play and he does. Also, for the actual play I used slow motion so it is easier to see the play develop. Once again, thanks for sharing your videos. T43 Fullback with Offensive Line Trap - SD 480p.mov
  16. I wouldn't say 'one and done,' but I've spent many hours tweaking ITZ bases with little return on my investment. At present I have five teams that ride on ITZ bases. Three of the teams ride on CL-2 bases because I prefer the firmer formula 55 and formula 100 plastic. Two teams ride on Blitz bases which is the softer formula 37 plastic. According to ITZ the softer plastic is easier for beginners to tweak. I believe the ITZ Starter bases are formula 37. The Big Horn Rams (CL-2 bases) are my reigning Fruit Bowl Champions (my Fruit Bowl is equivalent to the NFL's Super Bowl) and it looks like they will repeat again this current season. So ITZ's claim of championship bases can be accurate. The teams in the picture are the Big Horn Rams, the Arctic Vortex, the Diamond Dawgs, The Golden Grizzlies, and the Norsemen. I'm currently transitioning the Arctic Vortex from Blitz Light Blue to Gray CL-2. πŸ₯² I broke my own rule-of-thumb and painted the Arctic Vortex to match the base color. Have fun and enjoy your journey! πŸ˜ƒ T43
  17. Hi Greg. Tweaking is my least favorite part of the hobby. That said, with a bit of tweaking any base can be a Franchise base. However for every one that is a franchise base you will have five that are going straight to the circular file. The base and the plastic player work together. Change the player and you change the tendency of the base. Plastic has memory. You can flatten, beavertail, melt, trim, and twist and twenty minutes later the base will return to its original tendency. Bases won't stay tweaked. In my opinion the best way to tweak a Tudor base is to play games. It may take four or five games but the base will settle in to a consistent pattern. This is not true of ITZ CL1 and Blitz bases. They absolutely must be flattened, beavertailed, melted, trimmed, and twisted. (i.e. tweaked). The Law of Diminishing Returns will set in. Next year at this time you will be lucky to get one starter out of ten. A great paint job, beautiful water slide numbers, and a truly lifelike pose won't make a base a Franchise base. Find the best base/player combination and then paint. Keep your playbook simple. Good luck! T43
  18. Hi. On Tudor packaging Tudor claimed that coaches could run real sweeps. Here is a good explanation of how a Sweep should work. https://youtu.be/Fmnw6MkaJbQ In electric football the tricky part is pulling the guard and then getting the guard to block. When I was a kid I use to put the Guard's base on backwards and set the dial to run a sharp curve. That kind of replicates the Guard pulling but then the little plastic man doesn't look around for a defender to block. Why is that? πŸ€” πŸ˜‰ So, I don't try to replicate the guard pulling. I set up with the Guard ready to block defenders. Attached are videos of my Power Sweep. I don't try to pull the Center. Plastic Quarterbacks don't get hurt or get concussions πŸ˜‰ so I use the Quarterback as the third blocker (Fullback, Guard, & QB). The two teams are the Playtime butterscotch-base Suncats and the ITZ CL2-base Norsemen. In the third video the Suncat Tailback #33 stiff arms the Strong Side Cornerback and takes the ball down the sideline for big yardage. 😎 πŸ’₯πŸ’« T43 Power Sweep T-Formation - SD 480p.mov Power Sweep Pro Set formation - SD 480p.mov Power Sweep T-Formation with Stiff Arm - SD 480p.mov
  19. Hi Greg. When you invite the Red Pegs to training camp try adding a gram or two of weight rather tweaking like you would a Tudor or ITZ TTC base. It's like the Air Force Blackbird in the movie Space Cowboys. Those Red Pegs should settle down and astound you. πŸ˜€. Terry
  20. Hi. An ITZ video states this, "The ITZ Power Pack has a BIG and POWERFUL motor that has increased frequency and reduced amplitude, which means you will get smooth running for your home team." Frequency is the number of vibrations per time period (1 second usually) and amplitude is the peak and valley of the vibration. So, the ITZ Power Pack gives a coach more vibrations with less deviation from G where 1G is equal to the acceleration from gravity. The ITZ video goes on to say, "In addition, the action is VERY tight, which means when you have your motor set in the right position on your field and with the motor at the right height from the field it’ll stay set! You can move it around underneath the board until you find your sweet spot, then leave it alone. This is probably a bit of hyperbole because my two Tudor Motion Generators are very tight. Magnets, instead of double sticky tape just make it easier to move the motion generators around. Which is a plus. The ITZ video goes on to say, "This game is only fun if the bases run fast. Without a doubt ITZ bases run the best, but part of that equation is the motor providing enough power to give your tweaked bases the performance you demand, and the ITZ Compact Power Pack solves that problem! If ITZ bases run the best, why do they need more power? What is the problem the Power Pack solves? The problem is friction. From my experience testing ITZ bases, ITZ bases have a high coefficient of friction compared to some Tudor bases. This is why ITZ bases won't slide backwards. Also, ITZ bases frequently leap forward and then come to a near stop. Decreasing the amplitude should decrease that jerky movement. To overcome the increased friction the ITZ bases need more power. Finally, the formula for momentum is: Speed X Mass = Momentum. I think this may be the formula the ITZ video is mentioning. Because the MFCA, TOEPRO, and other rule makers prevent increasing weight above 4 grams, then increasing speed is the only option rule makers have given ITZ and Tudor. ☹️ I have the Ultimate and I use two motion generators. They are attached with double sticky tape at the 25 yard lines, on opposite sides of the 50 and just outside the numbers. In my solitaire league the minimum weight is 4 grams. Please see my videos on Red Peg bases. Decreasing amplitude and increasing weight should reduce the amount of tweaking necessary for Tudor bases. Once again, please see my Red Peg video. Thanks for reading. πŸ˜ƒ T43
  21. Flip a coin. Dude, you're getting two more games than you expected at the beginning of the season. BONUS. I bet the games will be two of your very best games. Enjoy. πŸ˜ƒ T43
  22. Hi. I have a 1968 Tudor Electric Football Official Rules, that states: TACKLE: The ball carrier is considered tackled only when an opposing player touches his base. The 2022 TOEPRO Rules use the same definition with different formatting. TACKLE The runner is considered tackled when: β€’ The standing opposing player's cleats or player platform touches ANY part of runner's cleats or player platform. This is why I call it Touch Football. Here's a definition of Tackle for young people: The text is Copyright Β© 2017-2023 Rookie Road Inc. "A tackle in football is the action of a defensive player stopping the forward progress of an offensive ball carrier..." Note the words "Stopping the Forward Progress." I believe a touch is an attempted tackle. Stopping forward progress is tackling and should be more persuasive. πŸ’₯ πŸ’« Please see the video below. Thank you for the dialog.
