The Latest CA Panther Tournament

Well after a long layoff I am finally ready to play another tournament. I thought i would start out with a preview with some info and some pics. I consider myself as an old school guy and I always try to honor the old tudor days from the late 60s and early 70s and share a little history. This tournament is unique because it will be the first time I have used this format . Typically I play 8 nfl or nfc and 8 afl or afc and the teams play in their conference or league until the 2 survivors meet in the super bowl. But i was thinking I never get to play intra league games until the end. So this one I am going to use intra league matchups as long as I can. It is possible that in the later rounds i wont be able to maintain the intra league but i hope to get as many is as I can. Most of my teams are the old Tudor original 1969 hog leg teams but I do have a couple haiti and a few HKBS ( chicken leg ) teams as well. My first matchup will be the only 2 haiti teams I have kept....original dark jersey bs rams ( my favorite team from my youth ) and the white jersey haiti buffalo bills ( my favorite uniform style from the haiti era ) ....other matchups will include : hog leg 49ers vs hog leg raiders. ... Hog leg packers vs hog leg chiefs....hog leg bears vs hog leg chargers....( a matchup that never happened in 1963 that the chargers lobbied for ) ....a super bowl III replay of the hog leg colts and hog leg jets ( the game that changed pro football forever ) ....the hog leg eagles vs the hog leg broncos....the transition dolphins vs the hkbs redskins.....and the hog leg cowboys vs the hog leg oilers.......I have 5 old big tudor fields ...I will play this tourney on my super bowl XI ( raiders vs vikings ) big 660 field ..( the last big 620 size game tudor made ).....I use classic bases when I play....I use the old widetop bases from the mid 70s for my linemen and I use some tweaked speed bases for my skill positions....once I make my final cut I will use the same 22 bases for the whole tourney. ..I am still doing a little base testing and should start playing tomorrow. ( rams vs bills ) .....I hope you enjoy my preview pictures and check in from time to time to see the results. It is a great hobby we all share and enjoy and I have met many good friends because of Electric Football.

Game 1 ( rams and bills ) was a thriller....both teams had chances to win on long field goals in the 4th qt but missed....the game went into overtime and the bills won the toss and drove down to the 20 and kicked a fg to win 17 to 14.....the game was a rb duel between oj simpson of the bills and lawrence mcutcheon of the rams....neither disappointed as both scored 2 tds a piece ...both had a rushing td and a receiving td.....featured players in the pictures were 32 simpson....67 reggie mckenzie and 81 bob chandler for the bills.....for the rams....30 mcutcheon ....89 fred dryer...85 jack youngblood and 74 merlin olsen........the next game will feature the battle of the bay.....raiders vs 49ers.

Game 2.....49ers 30 raiders 20....this game had a little bit of everything...td passes...kickoff returns for tds....long runs and interceptions......john brodie had a great game for the 49ers with 2 td passes and a long run for another score

...hewert dixon for the raiders had big runs and a td catch too.....players pictured include : 12 brodie...18 gene washington...75 forrest blue...69 woody peoples...70 charlie kruger.....22 vic washington ....and 40 ken willard...raiders represented include : 35 dixon...83 ben davidson....63 gene upshaw....40 pete banazak..44 marv hubbard....and 00 jim otto.....next up is a super bowl 3 rematch ...joe namath and the jets vs johnny unitas and the colts.

Colts get revenge.....tom mattie led the colts with 2 long touchdown runs as the colts win 20 to 7......the jets led 7 to 6 at the half on a long td by joe namath but the 2nd half belonged to the colts......pictures include 41 mattie...32 mike curtis...74 billy ray smith...78 bubba smith and 70 art donavan for the colts......famous jets include : 12 namath....52 john schmitt...32 emerson boozer and 80 john elliott..... Next up is a super bowl 1 rematch between the chiefs and the packers.....i just picked up the one sleeve stripe chiefs so i decided to use them and put the packers in white....i have the no sleeve stripe chiefs in my collection too and they are my favorite but i thought id see how these chiefs do.

Thanks rick...so far the old nfl has won 2 and the afl 1......the rams...raiders and jets are 3 of my favorite teams....all 3 have went down in the first round.

Broke out my latest field the big championship game board from the mid 70s.....i always liked the graphics on this board..... Chiefs defeat packers 21 to 7....the game was tied 7 to 7 midway through the 4th qt...but 2 big plays broke the game open for the chiefs.....first the packers missed a 45 yd fg and the chiefs got the ball on the 20....bobby tank holmes then went off tackle for 80 yds....on the packers next series....bart starr threw a rare interception ...bobby bell of the chiefs made the play...then 3 plays later...holmes scored from 32 yds out to seal the deal for the chiefs......great players from the past represented include : 45 holmes....16 lenny dawson...89 otis taylor....55 ej holub....63 willie lanier....14 ed podolak for the chiefs......for the packers.....31 jim taylor......5 paul hornung....87 willie davis...89 dave robinson....64 jerry kramer...63 fuzzy thurston....24 willie wood and 66 ray nitschke......next up is the bears vs chargers.....this is an interesting matchup because in 1963 the chargers were the high scoring AFL champions....and the bears were the defensive minded NFL champions......the chargers challenged the bears to a world championship game but it never was played.

This has been a weird tourney rick.....the rams..jets..raiders and packers have always been my favorite 4 teams...all 4 have been one and done in this tourney .....😞

Yes they made these for 2 or 3 years i think....they had the 2 teams in the afc and nfc championship games.of that year..u got 4 teams which was cool.....typically rams..viking...cowboys from nfc....and steelers raiders and dolphins in afc......i always liked the graphics and the triple decker scoreboard.....ive owned a couple before this one but they werent in good shape or had some rust.....this one is in real good shape...so it should be a keeper finally.

George "papa bear" Halas would have loved this one....the bears crushing defense and ground and pound offense ruled as the bears shutout the chargers 14 to 0.....jack concannon had the first score on a long qb scramble and gale sayers put the game out of reach with a long run up the middle in the 4th.....the bears defense was just too much and the chargers were never able to pose a serious threat.....great stars of the past include 40 sayers...11 concannon....51 dick butkus....81 doug atkins....55 doug bufone ....89 mike ditka...87 ed obradovich....and 41 brian piccolo for the bears.......great stars from the chargers include : 19 lance alworth....86 earl faison..21 john hadle..77 ernie ladd.....23 paul lowe and 22 dickie post......next up is a battle in texas between the cowboys and the oilers.

Well finally got to play again....hopefully my daily routine has slowed down so i can play more often......battle in the great state of texas.....cowboys 16 oilers 12.....the big stars for the cowboys were 35 calvin hill and 22 bob hayes....oiler standouts were 34 Earl Campbell...and 16 george blanda....stabler and lamonica always makes the raider squad...so i put blanda back on the oilers and jim plunkett on the patriots......some of the great old stars from the past include...12 stauback...63 larry cole...74 bob lilly ..and .32 walt garrison. for the cowboys.....for the oilers 44 charlie toler....52 robert brazille...and 33 billy cannon......next up is the dolphins vs the redskins....the final first round game will feature the eagles and the broncos.

Miami 30 Washington 15

Good game that broke open in the 2nd half...the scored was tied 3 to 3 at halftime but Washington's larry brown #43 and Miami's  larry czonka #39 hit the field running after intermission with both scoring 2 tds and paul warfield #42 for miami had a td catch from #12 bob griese ...warfield also had a pick 6 to put the game out of reach as miami went on to win...some of the great stars in the pictures include brown....charlie taylor #42....john riggins #44..#87 jerry smith..and billy kilmer #17 for washington.....for miami #39 czonka....#42 warfield....#21 jim kiick ...#80 marv fleming.....#22 mercury morris and #75 manny fernandez.....next up will be the last game of the first round as the eagles take on the broncos.

Late game to end the first round ....broncos 20 eagles 10.....#44 floyd little and #24 otis armstrong led the broncos strong rushing attack.....#31 Wilbert montgomery had the lone td for the eagles.....other great players from the past include #57 tom jackson....#41 rob lydle .....#68 rulon jones...#55 pete duranko.....and #77 lyle alzado for the broncos..... #60 chuck bednarik....#89 steve zabel....#55 frank lemaster ....#17 harold charmichael....#37 tom woodeshek and #76 bob brown were featured for the eagles.......the first round had 4 wins for the NFL and 4 wins for the AFL ....so the 2nd round matchups will continue with intra league games...  The bills will play the 49ers....the bears will meet the dolphins....the broncos will face the colts.....and the cowboys will play the chiefs.
