Quite honestly Greg it sounds like your blessed with having such good bases for your players. It's a great problem to have. I love when they run straight!

All very good advice. Like Terry, I use the 2 safeties. I mentally declare what yard line they're standing on and take them off the board. When receivers threaten to pass the line, or if the offense wants to attempt a short pass or if the QB scrambles passed the line of scrimmage, I stop the action and make a decision whether to put one, both or neither back on the board at the predetermined spot. They are allowed to be placed in any direction to maximize the coverage and stay with the potential receiver or make the tackle. After that though, no more pivots for DBs or receivers.

Then those bases are all the more impressive!

Van Eeghen was the League MVP in Season 13. The Raiders went to the Super Bowl that season and lost to the Steelers. He was pretty amazing on Thursday night! He had 9 carries for 111 yards and 3 TDs. Pretty nice stat line.

Thursday night Season 17 opener is in the books! The Raiders, with new starting QB Jim Plunkett went to Candle Stick Park and defeated their cross-Bay division rivals, the 49ers, 27-10. Raider RB Mark Van Eeghen had a big night, having touchdown runs of 14, 30 and 27 yards. He also ran for three 2 point conversions and had a 66 yard kickoff return. 49er QB Joe Montana was sacked three times and was intercepted by DB Lester Hayes. As for Plunkett, he was one for one for 3 yards and ran once for 5 yards. The Raiders will face division rival Los Angeles at the Coliseum next. The 49ers will host the Browns next.

Coach Daryl, are you painting the teams or doing Uni's? 79-80 Rams had a great year! Beating Dallas at Texas Stadium in the divisional round was huge! I'll be interested to see your Oilers, or should I say Earlers. 😁 Hoping the away team is the color-rush white.

Very cool, Coach Shawn! I still have the Chargers and Bears to paint. They will enter the league along with the Lions and Seahawks the season after next. Just wondering, what teams do you want to have in your college league? Are the players for each team from a specific class, or is each team a dream team from different eras?

I was on Ebay last night and in a moment of weakness I purchased some "Hong Kong" teams. 16 teams to be exact. 🙄 It was a value pack. I love a good value! I wasn't planning on expanding my league after the Chargers, Seahawks, Bears and Lions were to join the league, which would bring the total number of teams to 24. I always thought that if I were to expand further, I would add the 4 teams that I don't have from the "original" 28 teams; the Chiefs, Jets, Cardinals and Packers. Included in my value pack were Chiefs white and dark and dark Jets. Again, 🙄🙄

Great subject! My overtime is another quarter, (8 plays long). The coin toss is called by the home team. The team that is ahead after the "5th quarter" wins the game. If a regular season game is still tied after the overtime quarter, then the game ends in a tie. If a playoff game is still tied, then another quarter is played and so on until a winner is determined. Fun fact: My league's season 12 Conference Championship Games both went into multiple overtimes! The Colts beat the Giants in triple OT, and the Rams beat the Falcons in double OT.

Very intricate play design. Way above my pay grade. Not sure I would call it bungled though. Had he lost yardage then sure. Looks like he gained 2 or 3 yards. Chalk it up to good D. The only screen that I've ever designed is the RB coming out of the backfield, ie: your blocking FB. One reason for my lack of creativity can be attributed to the rule that only the QB can pivot, and then he must be in the backfield AND he can only pivot once per play. Also, I'm just not as creative. 😜

For QB's in the shotgun, or after they've dropped back to throw, I take their base off. For free safeties standing stationary, I make a mental note of where they are "frozen" and take them off the board until they need to cover a potential receiver.

I'm liking how the right side of the line baited the d-line into the backfield as the runner flies past them up the middle. And those Suncat uniforms! Love them!

The physical player and the base he is on stays. What changes is that the starting QB's "persona" is out of the game. And you might ask; what the Sam Houston does that mean? It means that the physical player and the base he was on now represents the second string QB. This "change" can have an effect. The team typically employs a more conservative offense due to not having their starting QB in the game, which is my way of manifesting an impact on the affected team. Now that I'm actually writing this down, it seems a bit looney. 😜😄 I remember way back in Season 6, Cliff Stoudt, who had replaced Terry Bradshaw as the Steelers QB a couple seasons before got hurt. Bradshaw came in and played his typical gun-slinger style and won the game. In this case, Bradshaw's gun-slinger persona replaced Stoudt's more conservative persona benefiting the team. Needless to say, Bradshaw won his starting job back that game. Incidentally, the Steelers won their final 3 games that season and went all the way to the Super Bowl where they beat the Rams in the biggest upset in Super Bowl history.

The only "injury" that I incorporate is when a quarterback falls down. At that point he is out for the game. It doesn't happen often, but my QB's tend to be more prone to falling down as I take their base off when they are standing in the pocket. Thus, they tend to bounce around more than other players.

Good subject, Curt. I allow a team to take a knee if they are ahead by enough points such that the trailing team doesn't have a sufficient number of plays left in the game to possibly come back. I use 8 plays per quarter as my timing system. Any play where a kick occurs (FG's, PAT's and punts) doesn't count against the play count. If the game is taking place during the regular season, the team in the lead may elect to try and score again as point spread per game is used in tie breaker circumstances. Because it's only a three-game season, point spread is very important.

Well done gents! NEFGM - I really appreciate the stripes on the Redskins, Rams and the Chiefs now that I've joined the painter's brotherhood. Terry - The color combos are very creative and well done! I took a little bit of creative liberty with my Seahawk's home uniforms. I was going to go full color rush but decided to keep the silver/gray pants. Did go with the green shoes!

I agree that randomness would limit and quite possibly eliminate bias. I had a situation in this past season's NFC Championship Game where the Saints QB, trailing 7-3, threw a pass and the 3rd and long precision football looked as if it hit the defender last, thus being an interception. This was in the fourth quarter with only a couple plays left in the game. I was 90% sure of the call, but not positive. If the Bronco defender intercepts, the game is basically over. I decided not to count the pass but leave the play intact and give the QB another try at the pass. This time of course, the ball clearly hits a receiver in the endzone which would have given the Saints the TD and with the PAT a three point lead with just a couple plays left in the game. It would have been tough for the Broncos to come back. So now I'm really conflicted. So, I ultimately decided that it wasn't fair to the Broncos for the TD to stand, and decided to call off-setting penalties, meaning the entire play is scratched and needed to be done over from the jump. The next pass ultimately fell incomplete giving the Broncos the ball and only needing to assume the victory formation for a couple plays. In retrospect, my only regret is not having called the off-setting penalties from the start instead of giving the Saints another attempt at the pass. Bias? I think more indecision and not wanting to see such an important game end, but eh? It ain't easy being an EF Coach, Ref, and Commissioner all at the same time, right?

Thanks Daryl, and thanks Terry! Compared to you all, I'm pretty rudimentary. Just numbers on the back of the jerseys, and I'll probably use good old varsity numbers. 😅 I really enjoyed the process! So much so, I've started on the Seahawks. I did a prototype for both home and away. Doesn't really match any year in particular, and I may yet change them. I'm digging the away uni, but not loving the home uni. Also, they're kinda sloppy compared to the Lions.
