I've seen a few wooden custom boards, are they any good.

Wooden frame with a metal field, or even the field is made of wood?

My old 600 field is made from fiberboard.  It actually plays quite nicely.  But it does have the drawback of not being magnetic (we use pass placement).

Pretty sure most of what he has seen are metal boards and wood frames. 2' x 4' playing fields. How good they are mostly depends on the motors being used and placement of the motors.

Sorry, I meant wooden playing field.

I few sites that offer making fields that way.

I think I have even seen a few pictures here on the custom fields' discussions.
