Saints Rookie Coach Bobby Biggs played HUGE against Veteran Coach Joey Pizz!

SauravNAV_Weekly_Digest.jpg.47844233bf26e39a680a1b52d2c7a551.jpgWritten with honor and joy, by Levi Vick while coach Billy O’C is out for the remainder of the 2023 LIEFL season. Tell me how the write-up's are and what I can do different?

(Long Island Electric Football League Week #4 Completed October 24, 2023). By now readers know that the Long Island Electric Football League is stacked with passionate coaches, complimented by a professionally structured and intricate detailed, and organized league. The league is defined by strict adherence to the rules, like your leagues.

The LIEFL includes historic accurate statistics (See our League Page on Tudor), up-to-date standings, coaching records, all-time records, greatest games, and all-time record holders for regular season, playoffs, and LIEFL Super Bowl history, along with other great information about the way we think our league should be run.

https://forum.tudorgames.com/leagues/6-long-island-efl-established-1972/

Keeping records helps us to benchmark, legitimize, and compete at a level that allows us to constantly evolve, progress and improve the standard of the league, but it takes much coordinated effort. With all of these components, it makes for such an exciting league, but it also is amazing to chase records while setting new records and achievements as we preserve the integrity of the league. Coach Ed Viggs said, “We believe that we might be one of the only leagues in the world that has such extensive and well-kept records all shared on the Tudor Forum. We haven’t seen otherwise! To us electric football has deep rooted meaning from our childhood, and somehow our commissioner had the savvy at a young age to keep meticulous records of our league. It is really a beautiful story for our shared hobby. He’s a class act with an entire bin filled with records.”

Alternate coach Joe Bino said, “We are always chasing history, until we can’t play anymore. Each 11-man team consists of professionally detailed players and a roster which comprises of historic greats from every football generation. For us anyway, what matters is, it’s electric football at its best. There’s plenty of competition right here on Long Island. I played many outside coaches throughout the years, but we have reached great new heights in this league. With Billy O’C’s teams, there should be no excuses for me to try to take one of his teams to a Super Bowl and collect a payday. When O’C retires I want to try to join another league in New York.”

The coaching commitment in the league is incredible. Coaches pay $200 in dues every year so that there is a $3200 dollar payout at the end of the season split between the Super Bowl winner and runner-up. At the end of last season, the loudest coach in the league, Coach Johnny Freeport, called to vote for abolishing the two-coach payout system, leaving the $3200 dollar payment to the Super Bowl winning coach. The LIEFL Commissioner is in favor of calling the vote to the floor before or after this year’s Super Bowl.

So far, the BUZZZZZ around the LIEFL amongst coaches seems favorable to a one-coach payout system. Johnny-Freeport said, “It is ridiculous that the loser of the biggest game in the league, gets a payout. Too bad, YOU lost man, you don't deserve to be rewarded in any way. It is hard enough to get my team to a Super Bowl and if I get there I deserve the whole pie, not just a piece! This is all Billy O’C’s liberal doing because he thinks it is fair that a coach who couldn’t win the big game should be rewarded. I wouldn’t play anywhere unless there is a nice pay out to the winner. That’s what motivates me more … I don’t just play for fun, I play for money. It just makes for some fierce-minded competition. I am winning this year!”

Last year’s Super Bowl winning coach Matt Zoo-York, the South Bronx Native said, “I am all in favor of taking home the big prize of $3200, so I will be voting in favor of a one coach pay out. Billy O’C is proposing a $300 dues fee in the last season, which I am also in favor of. That would be a $5,000 dollar payout for the BIG GAME. Three thousand from the league and two thousand from the sponsor. We are pretty sure there aren’t many leagues around the world playing for money.  I don’t need a trophy, I want the money. It makes a huge difference.”

Coach Kevin Mac said, “Our sponsor matches the other half of the dues and has for the past seven years. Imagine if we had 32 coaches? That would be roughly a $10,000 dollar pay pool. Maybe our commissioner can make that dream happen in our final year. He’s moving down to his home in Florida. I continue to try to make my teams a force in the league, but the competition is tough, and I won't quit because I love the hobby.”

Johnny Freeport’s best friend Coach Paddy Brannigan said, “We strictly use the 67-Big Men, and all teams must meet league standards. We don’t allow weighed down players, use of dice, sticks, passing aides or anything other than the natural player bases made to perform at a high level through an LIEFL draft. That is more for great Solitaire leagues, which is so cool. In this league a Super Bowl winning coach deserves nothing less than the entire $3200 dollar payout.”

Coach Joey Pizz said, “The organization of the fast-paced LIEFL is one of the factors that keeps us coaches coming back for more. There are few delays and all quick-thinking football mind's' racing against the clock on setups and mindful aggressive football. We all played organized football, including in college, so we know the game. I was a fullback, so we don’t need a lesson or lecture in how to play the game of football. Pete Porcelli was a brief coach for the Arena Albany team during the Antonio Brown nonsense this year, and he is the Rules guy for the LIEFL. We have deep rooted football guys in this league. Pete is a tremendous guy who played at Emporia State and Long Islands' CW Post!"

Week #4 is one of the most important weeks in our league because it's a pivotal point after crossing the halfway mark of a seven-game season, and the focal point of what shapes the playoff run. The intensity will be on the rise between emotional coaches chasing $3,200 to be part of the big game, LIEFL Super Bowl XVIII!

The last six LIEFL seasons have come down to the wire with more than 24 teams in contention right up to the final game of the season. Some of our 2022 playoff teams were both decided and eliminated in the final game of the season!

We reached out to Coach Billy O'C who is done for the 2023 LIEFL season. O'C said, "The benchmark to great electric football in any league is always wins versus losses, but it's also about progress in the league and how competitive the teams are when they transform through the draft. The draft is obviously the prime factor designed to give all coaches the opportunity to transform and strengthen a team, so much that from one season to the next, it is unpredictable in terms of the outcome each season. In my opinion, every team in this league is built to compete. There are stars on every team and it comes down to coaching."

Anything can happen in the Super Bowl Tournament. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers were both Wild Card teams who made it to the 2022 Super Bowl all because of the draft. It's Kaizen Philosophy at its best, the belief that continuous, incremental improvement adds up to substantial change over time! We don't keep anybody on the team who can't perform up to the standard we set. That’s the amazing part about any league with a draft, it reaches a new standard every year with a pool of thousands of player bases to choose from. This week’s games.

WEEK #4 ACTION: PLAYER OF THE WEEK HOUSTON'S RON DAYNE!

Texans running back Ron Dayne, erupted  in Week #4 action with 11 touches for 337 All-Purpose yards with three touchdowns, including a 100-yard kick return in Houston's (2-2) second straight win on the road beating Jacksonville (1-3), 27-21, in overtime! The Texans are "red-hot" in the AFC South!

Long Island EFL GAME OF THE WEEK:

SAINTS UPSET GIANTS 24-21!

SAINTS1ART.thumb.jpg.b99e82b5fef9476094ba725da9d65c98.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgGiants (2-1) at Saints (0-3)

GIANTS SAINTS PRE-GAME

After the season the New York Giants (2-1) had last year winning seven games that's hard to top in any fiercely competitive League. The one thing about the New York Giants being the number 9th All-Time LIEFL ranked team in this league at (92-77) is that coach Joey Pizz always has his team ready to play against the best-of-best. New York kicked off the season winning the Hall of Fame Game beating the Miami Dolphins 23-17, in overtime.

The biggest surprise for the Giants was asking the question … Why they got beat up by a team they beat three times last year in the Redskins, who are unbeaten this season? Look no further than the draft because the Washington Redskins brought in three key linemen that they won in the draft and that's been the difference.

The Redskins have only allowed 30 points, and the Giants who were the number one offense in the game last year have not lost their offense, but they’ve met stiffer competition. It's the defense that needs to step up for the Giants, which they did last week when they beat Philadelphia on the road 14-7.

Big Blue linebacker Lawrence Taylor had two tackles in that game, but he also made big plays when the Giants needed it most against a high-powered Eagles offense. New York running back Shaquon Barkley rushed for 58 rushing yards and Ahmad Bradshaw, the LIEFL MVP last season had 139 all-purpose yards.

A few weeks back coach Joey Pizz made a few comments about both Bobby Biggs and Johnny-Freeport talking about their trash talk. Today on the road against coach Bobby Biggs and his New Orleans Saints, Pizz will have the chance to take it to Biggs unbeaten Saints. It's time to live up to his words. Biggs, who's only won two games out of nine so far, refuses to make any statements about the league and the competition. Billy OC loves Bobby Biggs and he thinks he's going to win a Super Bowl very soon, O’C said. Pizz said, “We’ll just see about that.” Just because the New Orleans Saints haven’t won a game doesn’t mean it will be a walk in the park for the Giants in this league. The Saints are very competitive. Saints running back Reggie Bush is a Top Ten guy in NFC rushing and all-purpose yards, so it won’t be easy for New York on the road.

THE GAME:
In the LIEFL Game of the Week for Week #4, the New Orleans Saints, if for nothing else, played for pride against a worthy New York Giants football team who just came off a huge win against division rival on the road in Philadelphia in Week #3. Credit Coach Bobby Biggs, who may not see eye-to-eye on things with Giants coach Joey Pizz, but Biggs beat Pizz fair-and-square in a thriller! Last week Pizz expressed his attitude toward what he called the “two bigmouths of the league” in Coach Bobby Biggs, now (3-7), and Johnny Freeport. It would be Biggs who has the upper hand now after backing up his talk with a huge win over the Giants! Granted the Saints had home field advantage, but the Texans beat New Orleans on the Saints home turf last week, 14-13! Maybe Pizz was too confident?

SAINTS4ART.thumb.jpg.385702db40cf60ca021618661c8bf390.jpgReggie Bush returned a 40-yard kickoff to open the game, but the Saints couldn't get anything going on the ground. The Giants Big Blue defense was hitting hard with David Diehl making two swift tackles. It was clear that Bobby Biggs and the Saints were going to work on killing the clock to keep the ball out of Ahmad Bradshaw and Shaquon Barkley's hands, but it wasn't those two who did the damage. New Orleans played great damage control in the game. Saints’ receiver Marcus Colston came up big catching a 61-yard pass play on the right side of the field for a touchdown to give the Saints the lead, 7-0.

For New York it was Ahmad Bradshaw running straight ahead into a wall of New Orleans Saints on the Giants first kickoff possession bullying his way 45 yards. Shaquon Barkley ran the ball several times and on a big 33-yard run Barkley set up a pass play to Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham caught a beauty from Pizz for a 40-yard touchdown catch down the left sideline on blown coverage by Reggie Bush, tying the score 7-7, as the first half ended.

Reggie Bush returned the next kick 60-yards to start the second half, but the Saints couldn't get anything going on the run or the pass. After two failed runs the Giants defense came up huge stopping New Orleans on 3rd down when Bobby Biggs could not connect with a wide-open Reggie Bush 20 yards away. New Orleans had to settle for the field goal to make the score 10-7, Saints in the lead.SAINTS1ART.thumb.jpg.b99e82b5fef9476094ba725da9d65c98.jpg

One thing's for sure, the Giants defense with David Diehl came up huge. Diehl made his fourth tackle of the game! And on the Giants ensuing kickoff Ahmad Bradshaw ran back an electrifying 100-yard touchdown return to put the Giants ahead 14-10, with just over 8 minutes to go in the game. It was Bradshaw’s second 100-yard touchdown of the season.

Give Bobby Biggs Saints credit, especially Reggie Bush. Bush returned a 44-yard kick return after the Giants scored, and one play later on first down, Bush exploded on a 57-yard touchdown run downfield to put New Orleans ahead, 17-14. What a run! After losing to the Texans last week 14-13, the Saints are trying to avoid the same disaster with 5:20 left to go in the game!

SAINTS5ART.thumb.jpg.173a5a2ae9d0d4a8461f1fe4f0c30414.jpgWow! On the Giants next kick return it was Ahmad Bradshaw, last year's LIEFL Player of the Year, who ran back an explosive second consecutive 100-yard touchdown, his second of the game to give the Giants the lead, 21-17, and the Saints will get the ball back with 3:50 left to go in the game with time running out on Bobby Biggs

Unbelievable! With 2:18 left to go in the game Reggie Bush exploded for his own stunning 100-yard kick return to give the Saints the lead in a thriller, 24-21 over the New York Giants! What a run for Bush! Bobby Biggs was going wild as the Saints pushed their game to the limit!

With just 48 seconds left in the game, Ahmad Bradshaw was hit hard at the 30-yard line by Jeremy Shockey, killing the Giants (2-2) chance to tie the game. New York had one pass play left coach Joey Pizz connected with tight end Mark Bavaro on a 45-yard pass play, but Bavaro got tripped up at the 30-yard line and he turned out of bounds!

The previously unbeaten Saints (1-3) and LIEFL rookie coach Bobby Biggs, played a magical game against a worthy opponent, winning their first game of the 2023 season, 24-21! Biggs was ecstatic!

Coach Joey Pizz was dejected, and the loss will pose problems for the Giants even though they won last week on the road. Pizz said, “Sometimes you get too confident, and it looks like that might be the case when I took the lead, I thought my Giants had it in the bag, but credit Bobby Biggs. He never quit and he played a great game. That was great competition!”

Bobby Biggs silenced the LIEFL critics today with his win and he also got revenge on Joey Pizz, who spoke about the “loud mouths in the league” and Biggs just wasn't having it! What a game! Biggs said, “I am just getting warmed up in this league and thanks to Billy O’C, I am on the hunt to win.  LIEFL this and that, just watch what Bobby Biggs brings, that’s what I am saying. We beat an excellent team, but they can be beaten and so can all the other plastic men in this league. The only thing I am still adapting to is the fast pace of the games, the coaches, and the clock.”

New Orleans Reggie Bush exploded for a season high 8 touches for 309 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns! New York Giants LIEFL All-Pro Ahmad Bradshaw was sensational with four touches for 275 yards with two 100-yard touchdowns! Biggs has Bush motivated!

On any given day in the LIEFL!

BENGALS MAKE STATEMENT AGAINST BROWNS IN 17-14 WAR!

BENGALS1(1)art.thumb.jpg.a087535d868c98e482afbdd64a2d7e6d.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgBrowns (1-2) at Bengals (1-2)

BROWNS PREGAME:

The Cincinnati Bengals (1-2) finally won a game last week, but not just against anybody. They beat the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers at home last week, 14-7. The big story was Bengals running back Ickey Woods, who has a brand-new player base left over from the draft. Woods rushed for 90 yards against an elite 49ers defense, and that's saying a lot. Much of the slicing and dicing Woods did was on his own. Like Houdini, Woods played like an escape artist running end-arounds and through the heart of an offensive line led by Bengals lineman Anthony Munoz.

The set-up man on special teams is crucial to the running and passing game, and in this league, teams must be consistent. But that's not all. Cincinnati thought they had something special in Chris Collinsworth because Collinsworth had two great games in week one and two, but last week he slipped a bit with just 71-yards on kick returns when they needed his effort to set up Ickey Woods. When you’re a plastic figure, you are easily disposable. Ah, the life of electric football. Compete or be beat!

Chris Collinsworth has 319 all-purpose yards on just five touches with two 100-yard touchdown runs. Those are big numbers. Collingsworth is averaging 63 yards per touch, that is why Collinsworth is so exciting to watch. But last week because of his performance coach Johnny-Freeport and his Bengals will go with Chad Ochocinco Johnson again if Collinsworth faulters.

THE GAME:

BENGALS2(3)art.thumb.jpg.b242766d1b46e1470a1a8522325dccfe.jpgAs they lined up on the field both coaches had their words with Johnny- Freeport talking about what he thinks is an overrated defense. Matt Zoo-York is no stranger to the badgering. Zoo let Freeport say whatever he wanted, and then he did his talking on the field. Well, that didn’t quite happen the way Zoo-York anticipated as Johnny Freeport’s Cincinnati Bengals came to play and reclaim the AFC North!

Cincinnati Running back Ickey Woods could get nothing going for the Bengals, but lucky for an 85-yard kick return by Chris Collinsworth the Bengals found a way to get into the end zone on a 45-yard touchdown pass to Chad Ochocinco to give the Bengals the lead 7-0! When Ocho is involved in the game the Bengals play well. “Why not use the lethal combination of Ocho-Worth said Freeport?”

It was the Browns’ turn. Running back Jim Brown had an explosive 86-yard kick return to open the game on Cleveland's first drive. Running back Mike Pruitt had nowhere to run but on 3rd down Zoo-York connected with Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., who took a 23-yard rocket into the end zone to tie the score at 7-7, as the first half ended!

BENGALS3ART.thumb.jpg.d8905b44578951361a4b2c239394d632.jpgOn the ensuing kickoff Chris Collinsworth returned to stellar form with a 31-yard kick return. Two plays later Ickey Woods picked up where he left off last week as he bounced around the right side and ran 69-yards downfield to give the Bengals the lead 14-7, with 8:30 remaining in the game.

The buildup to a great finish was growing. Cleveland's Jim Brown ran back 48-yards on the Browns next kickoff. And in three plays Cleveland running back Mike Pruitt ran for six, four, and finally a 42-yard blazing touchdown run cutting through the left side of the field to tie the score at 14-14, with 6:10 remaining in the game. Wow!

On Cincinnati's last drive Chris Collinsworth came up huge with a 77-yard kick return with Johnny Freeport pointing in Matt Zoo York's face saying, “Yeah, time to get you back for that loss on the last game of the season pal.” Matt Zoo-York said, “It’s not over yet.” But it truly was! Cleveland was out of time and Collinsworth kick return gave the Bengals the opportunity to win the game 17-14, on a 27-yard field goal! What a game!

BUCS UPSET TITANS WITH 14-10 ROAD VICTORY!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgBuccaneers (2-1) at Titans (1-2)

BUCS TITANS PRE-GAME:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers love ruffling feathers! They started out on fire this year with all of the changes through the draft, but they've also been a team on the rise. The Buccaneers started the season off with a 31-28, overtime win against the Detroit Lions in a spectacular game. Jimmie Giles was a beast in that game with 382 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns. Giles has not let up. The Buccaneers went on to beat the Vikings in Week #2, 10-3, but then last week they lost their toughest game to division rival Atlanta, 17-14 in overtime. Ricky Bell had 70-yards rushing in the game, which showed that Tampa Bay is working on their running game, and his new player base performed well.

Each week it has been a huge battle with the margin of victory usually because of coaching mistakes or miscalculations because of the clock or set up speed which requires quick thinking football minds.

Coach Joey Pizz has worked hard with these Bucs, who made the playoffs in 2016, after making a run at a Super Bowl, losing 28-24 to Seattle in the NFC Divisional Championship Game. The Bucs haven’t made it back. It was the first time Tampa Bay saw the playoffs since 1982. It's too early to count the Buccaneers out just because of one loss. They have to prove that they're a resilient team today, and that they can win on the road.

The Tennessee Titans are an outstanding football team. They've come a long way and they have been very consistent. There is a big question mark next to the Titans because of their loss to Denver last week at home, 10-7. No one can afford to lose a home game in the LIEFL. The Titans did beat the Ravens, but they lost to Jacksonville, so the real question is are they ready to compete against Tampa Bay this week and face the wrath of the offensive powerhouse Buffalo Bills and AFC leaders Jay Brown and OJ Simpson next week?

Titans running back and last year’s Rookie of the Year, Derrick Henry rushed for only 28-yards last week against a very challenging Denver Broncos defense. Henry has 168-yards rushing this season with three touchdowns, including a 58-yard scamper. Kick return specialist Brandon Jones has been consistent, but they need more from him. Jones has 10 touches for 469-yards with one touchdown.

THE GAME:
It was a powerful first half of football between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee came out ready to use the sword but Brandon Jones the key return Man for Tennessee was stopped at the 25-yard line. LIEFL Rookie of the Year in 2022 Derrick Henry carried the ball five times before the Bucs defense kicked in. Eventually the Titans were forced to pass and with nobody open, they were forced to kick a field-goal on fourth down to give the Titans the lead 3-0.

BUCS1(3)art.thumb.jpg.93a3090de86054e29e2de569d2bfcaa0.jpgOn Tampa Bay’s first possession, Jimmie Giles ran back a 40-yard speedy return, but he was hit hard by ensuing kickoff and the opening drive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Giles was crushed at the 40-yard line by Tennessee defender Eron Kinney, setting up Ricky Bell and the Bucs running game. The Titans defense played tough, and Tampa Bay was pushed back on several plays. On third down Jimmie Giles broke free for a 40-yard touchdown play to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the lead 7-3, with the first half ending.BUCS2(1)art.thumb.jpg.43d27c5d30524472b6a8aef6b77ddf94.jpg

The Titans fired right back and suddenly the Tennessee offense came alive after a nice Brandon Jones 39-yard kick return. On first down, Derrick Henry took it around the left side of the field 61-yards into the end zone to give the Titans a tight 10-7 lead!  This was the turning point of the game … TIME. Tampa Bay ran the clock down leaving less than a minute to score for the Titans.

When Tampa Bay returned the football, they drove down field killing the clock on the Titans. It took the Bucs four plays for Ricky Bell to score on a 15-yard touchdown run to give the Bucs (3-1) a huge 14-10 victory on the road! Jimmie Giles finished the day with four touches for 165-yards with a huge 40-yard touchdown reception. Things are shaping up for Tampa Bay who host Carolina in the biggest game of the year for them as they battle for the NFC South.

The playoff picture may invite teams who have not seen the playoffs in the league in some time. The winners of last season who qualified for the LIEFL playoffs are the losers of this year's intense season with some fierce competition. The Titans could not get the job done at home. It appears the playoff contending Titans of 2022, put their chances for the playoffs this year in jeopardy. Coach Kevin Mac’s Tennessee (1-3) travels to the high-octane Buffalo Bills in Week #5 which will test their will.

ADDAI KEEPS COLTS UNBEATEN AGAINST TOUGH PANTHERS 14-10!

COLTS1(5)artwithref.thumb.jpg.97043d10239aa7cca8a30bee6efb10fc.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgPanthers (2-1) at Colts (3-0)

PANTHERS-COLTS PREGAME:

The sign of a good League is a league that has a different champion every year. That's usually the result of a good draft system. Of all the games on the schedule, this one is one of the most interesting between the Carolina Panthers (2-1) and the Indianapolis Colts who are undefeated (3-0). The Colts have to get out to an early start, but can they meet the standard of the Carolina Panthers who've been in the mix as an elite team for the past three seasons? Carolina's DeShaun Foster is a running back indeed. Foster ranks 5th in NFC rushing with 16 touches for 267-yards, with four touchdowns. His biggest game was against the Green Bay Packers fierce defense. He had 121 yards rushing in that game with two touchdowns, so this game won’t be easy for the Colts. In fact, it might be their toughest opponent yet. Between Foster and kick returner Greg Jones the Panthers are lethal. Carolina has been knocking at the door for three consecutive seasons.

The Colts have been exciting this year, and they have one of the best players in the game at running back in Joseph Addai. Addai is ranked 4th in AFC rushing 2nd in all-purpose yards, and 4th in kick-returns. The Panthers have their hands full!

The game in the trenches is where this game is going to be interesting but since the Colts get the football first alternate Coach Joe Bino, who is filling in for Coach Billy O’C feels confident that his Colts will unleash an offensive firestorm that these Panthers have not seen this year. Bino said, “My job is to confuse the enemy and I never really liked the Panthers, so that motivates me. All we must do is be consistent. I've been working with the Colts, and I haven't even unleashed my receivers yet. Marvin Harrison and Raymond Barry can really destroy a team but there's been no need for them at this point. I can assure you that my Indianapolis Colts are a badass team. The Panthers have lots of weaknesses, so my goal is to put my linebackers to work and fight through Carolina’s weaknesses.”

THE GAME:

COLTS2(1)ART.thumb.jpg.d1987aef10682dddb0fcd77767e4f9f0.jpg

The opening kickoff was exciting. Indianapolis Colts and LIEFL All-Pro Joseph Addai ran back an 81-yard opening kick return. After being held up at the line by a tough Carolina defense led by LIEFL All-Pro lineman Kawaan Short, on three running plays, the Colts were forced to pass so Coach Joe Bino threw a rocket to Addai who was waiting in the end zone on 4th down to make a 15-yard touchdown catch! Indianapolis takes the lead 7-0.COLTS3(3)ART2.thumb.jpg.51712f707baf6583c4b251ba6361e89b.jpgCOLTS1(5)artwithref.thumb.jpg.97043d10239aa7cca8a30bee6efb10fc.jpg

Carolina’s Greg Jones has blazing speed and he proved that on his 44-yard kick return met by lineman Quenton Nelson, who made a hard hit on Jones. The Carolina Panthers offense kicked right in, and it only took two plays for their star running back to DeShaun Foster to take a 56-yard touchdown run around the right corner of the field with great blocking to tie the score at 7-7. Foster is one of the most explosive backs in the LIEFL.

This game is very fast paced with Joseph Addai touching the ball 13 times, but the Panthers forced the pass. With the score tied 7-7, the Colts tried to establish the run again in the second half, but it was really the passing game that won the game for the Colts as alternate coach Joey Bino connected with Addai again, this time for a 60-yard bomb to bring the ball to the 5-yard line where Addai would catch another pass to put the Colts ahead 14-7, with time running out on the Panthers! Addai does it all!

The Panthers tried to manage the clock and Coach Kevin Mac watched the time tick down after a 42-yard kick returned by Greg Jones. The Panthers had little time left and coach Mac connected with Jeff King for a 16-yard play, but the Panthers could only kick a field goal as they ran out of time losing a hard-fought battle to the undefeated Colts (4-0), 14-10!

The Colts travel to New England next week and the Panthers are at Tampa Bay in a huge division showdown!

VIGGS UNBEATEN PACKERS DELIVER 17-10 LOSS TO BUSSEY AND JOHNNY-FREEPORTS LIONS!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgPackers (3-0) at Lions (1-2)

PACKERS-LIONS PRE-GAME:

Coach Ed Viggs unbeaten Green Bay Packers (3-0) and coach Johnny Freeport’s battle-hardened Detroit Lions (1-2) are a tremendous division matchup. This is going to be the breaking point for the Lions in the season and they must get the job done today. Having three straight home games can boost a team’s confidence and launch them into the playoffs where anything can happen, especially when you have one of the top players in the LIEFL, Dexter Bussey. The Lions must be the aggressor in this rematch of the Snow Bowl! This time the game is on the Lions home turf!

The Packers defense has to rise to the occasion and tame the roar of the Lions with big plays because Dexter Bussey is a playmaker, and he won’t back down in a big game like this. Coach Johnny Freeport will have his Lions ready to roar!

To stay undefeated in the first three weeks is a statement. The Packers just have to do what they do well. They've put together a fierce running game behind their setup man Sterling Sharpe, who can do it all. Sharpe might be the key to the game on set-ups. Green Bay running back Terdell Middleton is having an All-Pro season. He has opened eyes and he’s been super as the number two back in the NFC behind league leader, Atlanta’s Gerald Riggs. Middleton has 22 rushes for 363 yards with three touchdowns. That tells the story about the Packers running game, and Sharpe is ranked 6th in NFC all-purpose yards with 13 touches for 630 yards with two touchdowns!

We all know that Dexter Bussey is one of the most explosive players in the LIEFL. Detroit lost on the road last week to Minnesota 17-14, but in Week #2, the Lions defeated the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs 23-17, in overtime, so at best they have been a team rebuilding through the draft. This week the Lions have a chance to gain their confidence back and build momentum to make the playoffs. We predict Viggs will try to take this one to overtime with the hope that they win the OT coin toss.

Detroit can still unleash more offensive firepower with receivers Herman Moore and Calvin Johnson. The front line of the Lions has improved dramatically through the draft, and they won't be pushed around by the Packers. This is a different Detroit team but so are the Green Bay Packers.

THE GAME:

The Green Bay Packers came out prepared for a defensive battle today after Detroit running back Dexter Bussey’s 51-yard kick return to open the game. Bussey was silenced in the rushing game. The Lions surprisingly were stuffed by the Packers defense and held to a field goal on their first drive to give the Lions the lead 3-0.

Coach Ed Viggs of course had his Packers ready with a 65-yard stunning return by Sterling Sharpe on Green Bay’s first possession. Three plays later after a 29-yard run, and then finally on a 6-yard run by the NFC’s #2 rusher Terdell Middleton, he broke free to give Green Bay the lead, 7-3.

The second half was explosive. Dexter Bussey returned a 93-yard kick return to the 7-yard line of the Packers. On the next play Bussey stormed into the endzone for the touchdown, and the Lions regained the lead 10-7.

That lead didn't last long because this time Green Bay’s Sterling Sharpe ran back an electrifying 79-yard kick return on the ensuing kickoff. The Packers established the running game again, giving the ball to Terdell Middleton who exploded for a 3, 11, and finally, a 70-yard touchdown run to put the Packers ahead 14-10, with 7:31 remaining in the game. The Packers brought their warriors on defense and are playing on all cylinders.

Could this be an upset in the making?PACK1(2)refart2.thumb.jpg.2dee1694f4a91082212c14ded82e6d46.jpg

Coach Viggs Packers on defense matched every ounce of the Detroit Lions offense on Detroit’s next possession. After a 39-yard kick return by Dexter Bussey, the Lions failed to get the running game back. In fact, Detroit lost 15-yards. The Lions got stuffed again and on third down. Dexter Bussey broke free on third down and caught a 20-yd pass play, but they were still 8-yards short of the first down. Bussey on 4th down was stuffed for the second time in the game by Green Bay tackle Colin Cole. That left just 15 seconds in the game.

Green Bay got the ball back and kicked a field goal to win the game in a huge upset 17-10 over the Lions. Coach Viggs did his usual fist-pump when he won a big game. It's unbelievable! Johnny Freeport had no words, and his Lions season will be a huge obstacle to get into the playoffs as the Packers won their second game in a row on the road beating every team in their path. Green Bay beat New Orleans in the opener 17-14, then they beat Carolina 24-21, Chicago 24-21, and today as the Pack remains undefeated.

Coach Paddy Brannigan was at the game saying, “It's hard to explain what we just watched. It seems like the Packers clearly have Johnny Freeport and his Detroit Lions number.” The Lions now fall back to (1-3) as they will have to fight hard to chance the playoffs. Detroit is a better team than they were last year, but everybody else in the league has improved along with them, including the Packers. Could the Packers make another run at the Super Bowl?

PACK3(1)ART.thumb.jpg.5906720d982f739d596c656daa7fde3e.jpgCoach Viggs knows how to win plain and simple. Somehow his Packers defense shut down Dexter Bussey. That's a complex task and while Bussey had 210 all-purpose yards, the biggest number of the day was that the Packers held Bussey to just one touchdown, and that was the story of the day, although Bussey did break 1,000 all-purpose yards on the season. Bussey and Gerald Riggs of Atlanta are the first two to break the 1,000 yards mark this season.

Green Bay’s Sterling Sharpe set Terdell Middleton up perfectly with two huge kick returns of 65 and 79 yards and that was enough for Green Bay to beat the Lions 17-10, in the upset!

It was a big day for Terdell Middleton once again who picked up two more touchdowns with runs of six and seven yards into the end zone. Middleton ended the day with six touches for 56 rushing yards with two touchdowns, which was the difference in the game.

Coach Viggs said, “After the game I come out here focused and I know what my Packers are capable of. I proved that when we beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl a few years back. We've only gotten stronger, so I expect this team to make a run whether we're undefeated isn't so much a big deal, but what is a big deal is that we're beating teams on the road and if you don't have a game plan it's never going to work out the way you want it to in this league. There's some great competition here, great coaching, and Johnny Freeport is one of the most passionate players you're ever going to find in the game. He’s a big boy.”

At best, the Lions might have a long shot to be a Wild Card team in the playoffs. They missed the playoffs in 2022 with a (3-4) record. The Packers are in championship caliber form, but coaches know to be careful calling Green Bay a subpar team, especially after Coach Viggs showed his level of play, upsetting Miami 52-49, in the 2020 Super Bowl XVI! Green Bay has it all, and with Terdell Middleton healthy, the NEW Pack is back!

STEELERS OUTMUSCLED BY CHIEFS 14-7!

CHIEFSART.thumb.jpg.7d3093136c7d4f8e021b3420acf275e2.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgSteelers (1-2) at Chiefs (1-2)

STEELERS CHIEFS PRE-GAME

This is another tremendous game on the schedule between the rising Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2) and the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs (1-2).

The story for the Steelers has been Lynn Swann. Swann is ranked 3rd in AFC all-purpose yards with 14 touches for an impressive 821 yards with six touchdowns, four of them 100-yard kick returns for touchdowns. He’s dangerous! Pittsburgh’s Jerome “The Bus” Bettis played outstanding in the first three games running behind a highly motivated Pittsburgh Steelers STEEL CURTAIN of a front line. Put nothing past these Steelers. They can take a game into overtime and steal a win! That's what they need to do here on the road against coach Matt Zoo-York’s Kansas City Chiefs.

Zoo has something else in mind for Pittsburgh. The Chiefs have lost a small step in the draft, and we will see if they have the will and determination to return to the playoffs and dominate. Zoo will feed the Steelers all they can handle with the AFC’s leading back, Priest Holmes. Holmes has 19 rushes for 339-yards with five touchdowns! Setup man Tyreek Hill and Holmes are two of the best players in the LIEFL. That one- two combination of these two players must be the determining factor in today's game at Kansas City.

The Chiefs with linebackers Bobby Bell and Derrick Thomas can't go wrong on the inside and linemen Buck Buchanan and Willie Lanier will make for a long day if the Steelers can't put up some numbers on offense. Tyreek Hill has to step up his game this week because the Steelers are in the Top five offensively in the AFC.

The Chiefs lost the heartbreaker 7-6 to their division rival the Los Angeles Chargers last week, so let’s see if they can rebound in Week#4!

THE GAME:

Tension filled the air when Matt Zoo-York’s Chiefs and Paddy Brannigan’s Steelers took the field. On an electrifying opening kickoff Chiefs playmaker Tyreek Hill blasted off for a 100-yard kick return to start the game for the Chiefs, 7-0! Wow!

Pittsburgh's Lynn Swann returned a sizzling fast 57-yard kick return giving the offense great field position. But running back Jerome “The Bus” Bettis was stopped three times on the run, and then Pittsburgh was stuffed on the pass, faulting in a Steelers turnover. The ball back went back to a motivated high-octane Chiefs offense.

CHIEFS3(3)artwrefs.thumb.jpg.eec4cf3aafa2f8b75828923ee7cf0bbc.jpgJust before the half, Tyreek Hill almost broke free for his second 100-yard touchdown of the game when he was turned by his own teammate forcing him out-of-bounds. It was time for the leading AFC running back to take charge, Priest Holmes. Holmes ran 36-yards on his first run. And on his second run he was in the end zone with a 9-yard touchdown run to give the Chiefs the lead, 14-0! Wow, the Chiefs are expanding their offensive attack!

The Steelers quickly ran the ball back 54 yards on a blazing Lynn Swann kick return, but Swann ran into a sea of red jerseys. Moving forward on first down, the Steelers got clobbered on offense and they lost yards on every play. Jerome Bettis was buried by the Chiefs fierce defense led by linemen Buck Buchanan and Willie Lanier.

It is frustrating rebuilding a team, but Brannigan is willing to go through the pain until he gets it right. On second down for the Steelers Bettis was turned around at the 30-yard line and Coach Brannigan thought that Bettis turned back up field, but he was clobbered by Kansas City linebacker Derrick Thomas. The Steelers on these poor plays found themselves at their own 8-yard line in dangerous territory. On 3rd down, Steelers receiver John Stallworth broke free on the left side of the field, and he took it 70 yards down field for the first down on an amazing play by the Steelers.

CHIEFS2(1)ART.thumb.jpg.834bb6530c9f2ecff38c1a0d9b8c2756.jpgOn the next play coach Brannigan decided to pass. He found a wide-open John Stallworth again. This time Stallworth was open in the end zone, and Brannigan when in for the kill connecting with the wide receiver for the touchdown! Pittsburgh was in reach 14-7, but the Chiefs had the lead with time running out! Brannigan was doing his best to keep the ball out of Tyreek Hill's hands so that Kansas City wouldn’t score again.

The Steelers were pushed around by a big offensive and defensive line for the Kansas City Chiefs on the next several plays as KC killed the clock by running the football. Lynn Swann gave the Steelers a fighting chance with his second 54-yard kick return of the game but again the Steelers couldn't get anything going on the offense in the running game.

Pittsburgh would run out of time with promising hope as they go to (1-3) in their loss to the defending Super Bowl XVII Champion Kansas City Chiefs, 14-7! Kansas City is now (2-2), and today they looked terrific, but like every team in this league, it won’t be easy making this year’s postseason with their schedule. Tyreek Hill had a super performance tonight with 200 all-purpose yards with that blazing 100-yard return to kickoff the game.

Coach Branigan said of his Steelers, “We're a work in progress. I've seen some signs of productivity in this team and Coach Zoo played a great game today. His Chiefs are tough as nails.” Zoo York said, “I was impressed by the Steelers and I'm sure Brannigan's going to build a better defense and that's what you need to start sometimes.”

If Pittsburgh can limit productivity on the opposition's offense with a great defense, then Lynn Swann and Jerome Bettis should be able to do the rest. Tyreek Hill finished the day as the player of the game with 200 yards with a 100-yard touchdown!

Next week KC plays Chicago on the road, and Pittsburgh hosts division rivals Cincinnati and Cleveland which will decide their fate in their next two games. The Steelers have a lot of improvements to make after the Chiefs have exposed their weaknesses.

CASPER MAKES LIEFL HISTORY AS RAIDERS BEAT BEARS IN 28-24 THRILLER!

bears6art.thumb.jpg.c073a4843e60bb355bcc612f2c5cb7d6.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgBears (2-1) at Raiders (1-2)

BEARS RAIDERS PRE-GAME

This is a huge game for the Chicago Bears (2-1). After memorializing the loss of Dick Butkus last week in their loss to Green Bay, the Bears have a chance to make LIEFL history today! If they win, it will be the Bears 100th team win putting them in a league of elites. The only other 100-win teams in the LIEFL are Miami, Green Bay, and Denver. All but Denver have won the LIEFL Super Bowl.

It will be up to Bears setup specialist Willie Gault to unleash the Bears offense today. Gault has been blazing this season, ranking 9th in NFC all-purpose yards with nine touches for 493-yards, and three touchdowns, plus a 100-yard return! Running back Walter Payton has been a beast this season bullying his way through opponents with 15 rushes for 307 yards, with five big touchdowns, including a game winning 65-yard run in overtime against the Dirty Birds Atlanta Falcons in Week #1. We haven’t seen Payton play like this in five years. He is ranked 3rd in NFC rushing. It was his game against the Packers that opened eyes. Green Bay Coach Ed Viggs said, “When Payton rushed for 176 yards against us last week, I knew that this team made major improvements. They are the team to beat.”

Chicago has to play a perfect game to beat the Raiders, and Las Vegas must launch their running game for a second week straight and stay consistent. Raiders running back Bo Jackson’s performance in the Raiders 27-21 win over the Jets last week was long overdue. Jackson rushed for 139 yards, and he had three touchdowns. If he can play like that today, it will be a great game. Raiders LIEFL Superman and 4th ranked all-purpose yard player this season, Dave Casper is on fire with 711 all-purpose yards, with three touchdowns, two of them 100-yard kick returns. If you’ve been following the LIEFL, Casper is the biggest part of the Raiders offensive success.

If the Bears can beat the Raiders on the road with the challenging schedule ahead with games against Kansas City, Denver, and Seattle, the Bears may make the playoffs. We will see if they rise to the challenge. It would be the first time since the 2000 season that Chicago has made the playoffs. They beat Miami in LIEFL Super Bowl X, 45-38, in overtime! Twenty-three years of not being in the playoffs is a long time, but Chicago has scored 62 points this season, but because of the drafts they picked up, they are playing on a different level for coach Paddy Brannigan.

THE GAME:

It was a chance to make history for the Bears, who are chasing their 100th win, but they fell just short in a spectacular game between the AFC West Raiders! Instead, Dave Casper would make his own history today, breaking 1,000 yards for his seventh straight thousand-yard season, totaling 8,384 total all-purpose yards with 36 career touchdowns! Congratulations to Coach Kevin Mac, Dave Casper, and his Raiders!

On the opening kickoff for Las Vegas, Dave Casper was clobbered on the opening by his Nemesis Willie Gault who stopped Casper at the Raiders 39-yard line. On first down Las Vegas running back Bo Jackson picked up where he left off last week running for 43-yards until he was tackled hard by Chicago’s defensive lineman, Don Hampton.

And man did the Raiders play hard on offense on their first set of downs with Bo Jackson and Las Vegas front three of Gene Upshaw, Lyle Alzado, and Otis Sistrunk, who paved the way for a Raiders touchdown from the four-yard line, 7-0, Raiders take the lead. Bo Jackson put together 59 yards rushing on the Raiders first drive.

BEARS1ART.thumb.jpg.70e05e9397169003948ff7dfe0d5802e.jpgWillie Gault returned a 79-yard opening drive for Chicago, enough to set up Walter Payton, but the Bears Frontline got demolished by an angry Las Vegas front which led to a field goal by the Chicago Bears just before the half ended, 7-3 Raiders in the lead. Payton was shut down and that would put pressure on Gault.

When the Raiders got the ball back Dave Casper ran a speedy 64-yard kick return but this time on their first set of downs the Bears stuffed the Raiders run, and Walter Payton was held to just one yard rushing. On 3rd down Dave Casper hooked open on the left side of the field dashing down field for a 41-yard touchdown catch to give the Raiders the advantage 14-3, with just 8 minutes remaining in the game! Las Vegas impresses!

On the ensuing kickoff Willie Gault showed his worth, firing back with a blazing 100-yard touchdown return to turn this into a game, 14-10, Raiders!

BEARS4(1)art.thumb.jpg.1b00d834425ad50697cafc9c08a5f4f7.jpgOn the next possession for Las Vegas, Dave Casper gave the Raiders great field position running the ball all the way to the Chicago 42-yard line. What a battle between Gault and Casper, two sensations in the league. One play later for Las Vegas, Bo Jackson was spun around and headed in the direction of the middle of the field, escaping for a 42-yard touchdown run for the Raiders! What a play! Raiders 21-Chicago 10!

BEARS2(2)ART.thumb.jpg.8e98b766c8232ad54aaf106edd2ecef8.jpgWith three minutes left in the game, the game was far from over. It was the Bears turn. Willie Gault inched down the left side line and just ran back his second stunning, consecutive 100-yard touchdown run of the game to make the score 21-17, Las Vegas still has the four-point lead! Wow! What a game for Gault who has 279 all-purpose yards in the game thus far!

No way! Through a stack of black jerseys, Dave Casper just ran back his own 100-yard kick return, an inch from the right sideline cutting through the middle of the field and into traffic to give the Raiders the advantage 28-17 on an electrifying run with these coaches going crazy!

We just can't believe it! Even after the Raiders adjusted on special teams, Willie Gault did it again! Gault sliced and diced from the middle of the field to the right side of the field to run in his third consecutive 100-yard touchdown as time ran out in the game. What a football game this was with the Raiders beating the Bears 28-24, in a stunning spectacular Electric football game!

The coaches really enjoyed this game. It was like a playoff atmosphere and even though it started out slow, what a game it turned out to be with the Raiders winning their second of the season and the Bears dropping their second in a row.

Willie Gault and Dave Casper put on a show! Gault finished the day with four touches for a whopping 379 all-purpose yards with three spectacular 100-yard kick returns for touchdowns! Gault goes into the LIEFL record books!BEARS3(1)ART.thumb.jpg.23544d8fc950a0cb04099caad8a94296.jpg
The Raiders almost looked like their (9-1) 2008 Super Bowl XI team in this game with one of the most exciting players in the game Dave Casper. Casper had five touches for 302 all-purpose yards with a 41-yard touchdown reception and a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown! Bo Jackson rushed for 101 yards on seven carries, and Jackson had two touchdowns, one of them a 42-yard explosion. It is Jackson’s second consecutive 100-yard rushing game! Wow!

There are lots of challenges ahead for Las Vegas. The Raiders (2-2) face two beasts in Week 5 and 6. They play Miami next week, and then they play at unbeaten Green Bay in Week #6. Chicago hosts Kansas City next week, then they are at Denver in Week #6, before the Bears host Seattle in the season finale!

FALCONS WIN THE WAR AGAINST VIKINGS 14-7!

VIKINGS FALCONS PRE-GAME

We have featured the Atlanta Falcons quite a bit in our weekly summaries. Last week's upset over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gives our readers a nice insight into who these Atlanta ‘Dirty Bird’ Falcons really are. The Man of steel for the Falcons is Gerald Riggs. Riggs had 140 rushing yards with two touchdowns in the season opener against Chicago. Then he set a new seven-game season single game rushing record in the league with 239-yards rushing with four touchdowns against Philadelphia. And then last week he had 95 yards rushing against the unbeaten Tampa Bay Buccaneers before Atlanta pulled off the upset against the Bucs.

Gerald Riggs is the number one ranked Rusher in the entire league with 474-yards rushing on 22 carries, with seven rushing touchdowns. But that's not all Riggs has accomplished this season. He has 547 kick-return yards on 11 touches with one touchdown, making him the first player last week to have 1,000 yards for the 2023 season. Riggs is on track to break his own all-purpose record of 2339 yards set in 2019.

It won't be easy for coach Johnny Freeport and his Falcons today even at home. They have one more home game after this against Jacksonville but the next two are on the road at Houston and Carolina, both highly competitive teams just like everybody else in this league. Week to week you never know who's going to rise to the occasion and this week Gerald Riggs has to rise to the occasion to keep this team alive!

Coach Joey Pizz has worked hard with these Vikings. The defense is led by tackle and LIEFL All-Pro Carl Eller who has five tackles for the season. But the biggest missing link for this Minnesota electric football team is Adrian Peterson who is still looking for his first touchdown run of the season. Last week we saw Justin Jefferson, the rookie, step up with a 48-yard touchdown catch which helped the Vikings edge a tough Detroit Lions team, 17-14. Minnesota's defense has been tough. They've only allowed 41 points, ranking them in the top five NFC defenses.

THE GAME:

FALCS4(1)ART.thumb.jpg.0e845d60f9b4110ff17957648238b84a.jpg

The Falcons started the game with LIEFL super playmaker Gerald Riggs smashing hard into Vikings defender Chris Carter at the Falcons own 35-yard line. The huge offensive line of the Falcons came to play today, but so did the “Purple-People Eater” defense of Minnesota. With Riggs rushing 39-yards on the first five carries coach Johnny Freeport connected with Julio Jones on a beautiful inside pass for the touchdown from 30-yards away, 7-0 Falcons in the lead!FALCS1ART.thumb.jpg.3cddbbe004128c3bf234d6a946eee108.jpg

Adrian Peterson ran back the Vikings first play 81-yards. The Falcons “Dirty Birds” defense came to life and stopped Peterson on three straight runs, and on 4th down Coach Joey Pizz hit Justin Jefferson who ran 11-yards, but Jefferson’s yards after the catch was zero! Minnesota fell short of the first down, and the Falcons stuffed the Vikings offense.

The second half flew by with Atlanta’s Gerald Riggs opening the second half with a 52-yard run after the Vikings were shut down on their last set of downs. Riggs ran for another first down 13 yards to bring the ball to the Vikings 19-yard line with 8:26 remaining in the game.

After stopping Gerald Riggs on two straight runs, brining Atlanta back to the 35 yard line, the Falcons went to the air again. Coach Johnny-Freeport hit his favorite receiver Julio Jones once more, and Jones took it 35 yards into the end zone to make the score 14-0 Falcons with 4:19 left to go in the game!

What a finish this would turn out to be. Minnesota never quit. Adrian Peterson ran back his second 81-yard kick return of the game and with very little time left coach Joey Pizz connected with Justin Jefferson, this time from 19-yards away to give Minnesota their first touchdown of the game, making the score Falcons 14 Vikings 7.

On the Falcons ensuing kickoff, Gerald Riggs ran back a 40-yard kick return and that is how the game ended with Atlanta winning their third game of the season.

Coach Pizz had to eat his words again with some of the talk he had about Coaches Bobby Biggs and Johnny Freeport. Johnny said, “Must be tough to be you Pizz. You are losing your touch kid.” Pizz said, “It was a great battle and just because I lost doesn’t mean I changed my mind about how I feel about Johnny and Bobby. We will get both of them back when it counts most, or Viggs will beat them in the playoffs and send Johnny home whining again when he collapses in the playoffs.”

FALC2ART.thumb.jpg.8180ed3e76d54841464ea530de85ec3d.jpgThe Vikings defense played hard, and they kept the toughest back in the LIEFL Gerald Riggs, from scoring a touchdown, but he still had nine carries for 104 yards, giving Riggs a league leading 578 rushing yards for the season, with seven touchdowns. This Vikings defense is one of the best! Overall, Riggs had 11 touches for 179 all-purpose yards, but the big number for the Vikings was holding Riggs scoreless. Vikings tackle Jared Allen played a huge game today with four tackles, but it wasn't enough. It was Julio Jones who did all the damage for Atlanta, and it shows the balance that the Falcons have. Jones caught two passes for 70-yards, but he had two damaging touchdowns!

Atlanta has won three in a row, but they hit the road at Houston and division rival Carolina in the next two games! Minnesota hosts Denver next week then they head to Detroit for a division battle in Week #6.

The bad news for the Vikings is Adrian Peterson has yet to score a touchdown for Minnesota and he has not reached the 100-yard rushing mark. That tells coach Pizz the work he needs to focus on for 2024.

TEXANS UNLEASH OVERTIME WIN BEATING JAGS 27-21 IN DIVISION THRILLER!

TEX1ART.thumb.jpg.7d55877b3bf82ca31b432b17e8eed44e.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgTexans (1-2) at Jaguars (1-2)

TEXANS JAGUARS PRE-GAME

Levi Vick’s Houston Texans and coach Bobby Biggs Jacksonville Jaguars are both (1-2). This game is a great division matchup. Bobby Biggs has to find his mojo against a coach who knows a little bit about how hard it may be to play in a new league and make fast adjustments. Coach Joey Pizz said, “Vick started off (0-10) in his rookie year in the LIEFL but he took the Dallas Cowboys to the playoffs for the first time in 20-years! Dallas may have lost to Washington in the NFC Wild Card Game 45-37, but the league recognized that THE COWBOYS WERE BACK!”

One of these teams has to make their move and try to overtake the division leading unbeaten Indianapolis Colts, but that won't be an easy task. For the Texans LIEFL All-Pro Ron Dayne, who is one of the best backs in the league, has had a quiet season thus far. The biggest surprise for the Texans is that Dayne is not even in the Top-10 in any category, where in the past he was usually in the top five throughout the season. These Texans have been a work-in-progress.

This week may be his week to unleash his offensive skills against a tough Jaguars defense. Ron Dayne has just 110-yards rushing with two touchdowns compared to last season’s numbers. He was explosive with 72 all-purpose touches for 1590-yards with an impressive 15 touchdowns, including two 100-yard touchdown runs!

It's hard to figure out Houston considering they got blown out by the Colts in Week #1, 24-14, but they showed their resilience in weeks two and three. They lost to Miami 3-0, but then they beat the Saints on the New Orleans home turf, embarrassing rookie coach Bobby Biggs last week in the final seconds of the game, 14-13.

The Jaguars are a team trying to find their place. With Fred Taylor there's no reason why this team shouldn't be in the post-season. The only place where the Jaguars need to improve is in the running game. Fred Taylor is ranked 6th in AFC all-purpose yards with 31 touches for 609 yards with four touchdowns, including a 100-yard kick return for a touchdown. He's also ranked 6th as a kick returner with eight kick returns for 522 yards with 100-yard touchdown. That's not all, the Jaguars have an outstanding line led by LIEFL All Pro Reynaldo Wynn. Tony Boselli has been the anchor this season, and we all know that tackles Charles Spencer and Rob Meier are two of the best tackles in the league. Jacksonville has to put it together this week after falling short in Week #3, losing to the respected NFC South Carolina Panthers, 10-7.

THE GAME:

TEXART6.thumb.jpg.3e6e672c64001c4192c4802b88e2bfcd.jpgThe fireworks started early in this game between the Jaguars and the Texans. Jaguars running back LIEFL All-Pro Freddie Taylor, opened the game with a spectacular 100-yard kick return to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead!

The answer to that touchdown by Taylor in this division rivalry was a LIEFL All-Pro Ron Dayne explosion for his own 100-yard touchdown explosion to tie the score at 7-7.

The Jaguars came storming right back with another Freddie Taylor kick return, this time 50 yards, at midfield. On first down, Taylor exploded for a 15-yard run, then a 5-yard run, and finally a 30-yard run behind lineman Tony Boselli for the touchdown to give the Jaguars the lead 14-7, with the first half coming to a close!TEX7ART.thumb.jpg.c41663de3494eacba5c9a6c9ce129f11.jpg

Houston’s Ron Dayne returned to 40 yd kick return on the ensuing kickoff followed by a 35-yard run, and then the Jaguars defense kicked in and stopped Dayne on two straight runs, pushing the Texans back to the Jaguars 43-yard line for a loss of 18-yards! On the next play for the Texans tight end Ryan Griffin broke free at the 43-yard line catching a beautiful pass right towards the center of the field to tie the game at 14-14 with 12:22 remaining in the game! It's war! Levi Vick is determined!

Jags running back Freddie Taylor ran back another 50-yard run on the next kick return followed by a 26-yard run, and then Jacksonville receiver Jimmy Smith caught a 30-yard touchdown pass with time running out to give the Jaguars the lead, 21-14! Wow!

TEX2ART.thumb.jpg.99d8a54837ca7ab1d646739257f4b03a.jpgWhat a stunning turn of events on the next kick return Texans running back Ron Dayne ran back a 55-Yard kick return to set up Andre Johnson who connected on a pass from Levi Vick for a 38-yard pass play to bring the ball to the Jaguars 7-yard line. One play later Ron Dayne tied the game with a 7-yard touchdown pass to bring the game into overtime with the score tied, 21-21!

As luck would have it the Texans won the overtime coin toss, and they have a shot at winning this game on the road for the second week in a row! Vick sure does have his Texans playing well finding a way to get the job done.

In overtime Ron Dayne exploded for a 45-yard kick return. On the next play Dayne cut to the left side of the field for a 48-yard run to the seven-yard line of the Jaguars. On the last play of the game, it was Ron Dayne who scored on another 7-yard touchdown pass to win the game in dramatic fashion! The Texans have had two very strong performances in back-to-back weeks beating division rival Jacksonville 27-21, in the upset over the Jaguars on the road, and New Orleans 14-13, stunning the league!TEX1ART.thumb.jpg.7d55877b3bf82ca31b432b17e8eed44e.jpg

Coach Bobby Biggs is (3-8) on the season in his rookie year as his Jaguars lose at home. When the enemy wins on a coaches home turf, adjustments have to be made. But Biggs gives credit when credit-is-due. The game came down to the coin toss in overtime and Houston Texans Ron Dayne executing on offense. Dayne broke out finishing the game with 11 touches for an explosive 337 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns, including a 100-yard Touchdown run, in the Texans win, earning Player of the Week for Week #4. Biggs finally spoke saying, “Damn that Dayne is a great player, PERIOD!” Levi Vick awakened the LIEFL today, and he came to win for the second week on the road with these Texans. If Houston continues on this path they may somehow find a way to make the playoffs!

Bobby Biggs and his Jaguars still have a fighting chance with two home games remaining in the 2023 season. Next week Jacksonville plays the tough Los Angeles Chargers, then the red hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers, both at home until they face the Atlanta Falcons at Atlanta to finish the season.

PATRIOTS SILENCE EAGLES 7-6!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgPatriots (1-2) at Eagles (0-3)

PATRIOTS EAGLES PRE-GAME

The New England Patriots are deceiving at (1-2). At (5-5) former two-time Nassau County Baller and champion Coach Levi Vick, is finding ways to win in the LIEFL, especially on the road. His Patriots shocked the league last season, winning the AFC East and upsetting a host of teams along the way, including beating the Dolphins at Miami, to win the AFC East.

LIEFL Hall of Fame Sports Historian Andrew Slawson said, “That's why New England can’t be taken lightly. Look who’ve they competed with and who stayed in every game.” Vick says he’s confident that New England will make a turnaround, but the first three weeks have been stacked with incredibly tough opponents. Having the Miami Dolphins, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Buffalo Bills as your first three opponents is a huge challenge for any team in the LIEFL. The Patriots edged the Chargers 10-7, in Week #2, but all three opponents the Pats have faced thus far, made the playoffs last year. That is a true test.

Patriots’ lineman John Hannah has anchored the front line, but the Patriots need to get Kevin Faulk more involved in the game. Faulk has been a key receiver out of the backfield for the past two seasons.

In their schedule, New England still has coach Matt Zoo-York’s winless Philadelphia Eagles to deal with along with the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts, the Washington Redskins and their season finale at home against Denver. It will be a miracle if the Patriots make the playoffs, but it would also show just how good this Patriots team is. They virtually have a minimal running game and Laurence Maroney has just 61-yards in three games with only one touchdown on the ground game. Even Rob Gronkowski has been figured out on his kick returns. Gronk has 496 all-purpose yards with two 100-yard kick returns for touchdown runs. Receiver Randy Moss has been the most dangerous player on the outside receiver game with three catches for 112-yards with two touchdowns, including a 63-yard touchdown play.

Coach Matt Zoo-York is dazed about his Eagles. Zoo said, “They are the best (0-3) team I’ve ever seen. The schedule has been brutal. We lost to the Falcons in Week #2, and that killed us. Our offense has played well but the defense must play better. Coach Pizz played a great game last week against us. We lost last week in a huge upset against the Giants, 14-7, so I am trying to get us back on track to save the season. I hate losing!”

Eagles Running back Keith Byars has done his usual damage with 16 touches for 238 rushing yards, with four touchdowns. The Eagles need to land and battle using their offensive weapon and running game that Keith Byars brings. Byars needs to erupt and have a big day against a defense of New England who have allowed 48 points.

Leading the way on defense this season for the Eagles is Jerome Brown who has four tackles. Brown is having an All-Pro year.

Brown must rally the rest of the Eagles front line to improve their blocking game for Keith Byars and the running game because when the line does their job, Byars and Philadelphia have one of the most explosive backs in the LIEFL beside Gerald Riggs and Dexter Bussey.

THE GAME:

The Philadelphia Eagles started out with a bang but got shut down quick with their running game. Eagles returner Harold Carmichael ran back the opening kickoff 80 yards to setup the Eagles running attack. But the Philadelphia front line went ghost with the Patriots shutting down the Eagles offense. Philadelphia running back Keith Byars was completely shut out. Byars had four rushes, but he didn’t rush for a single yard against a dominant New England defense.  Philadelphia scored a field goal on their first drive making the score 3-0.

On New England’s first possession, the Eagles defense crashed Patriots return man Rob Gronkowski, who returned the ball just 37 yards. The Patriots struggled in the first half and Laurence Maroney was held to 20 rushing yards on four carries, so Patriots Coach Levi Vick went with Kevin Faulk in the second half, and Faulk delivered the only touchdown of the game with a 13-yard score, giving the Patriots a 7-3 lead. He finished the game with five touches for 60 all-purpose yards with one touchdown!

The Eagles answered with their second field goal as the clock ran out with New England (2-2) winning their second game of the season against the surprise story of the NFC, the winless Eagles (0-4). Eagles Coach Matt Zoo-York (5-10), walked away very frustrated with his team, losing his 10th game coaching this season after a stellar 2022 season where he went (19-14) with a LIEFL Super Bowl Title and $1800 dollars. The Eagles have to play for pride from point on and they are at Seattle next week. Zoo said, "Those are the breaks. Credit coach Vick for his win. The Patriots are a gritty team. I never thought this team would be where we are at right now, but I will never quit on them because I love the team. I just need to replace some of my linemen."

It looks like Philadelphia may be rebuilding by receiving the top drafts in February's LIEFL draft. The resilient Patriots host the undefeated Indianapolis Colts next week in what will be their turning point of the 2023 season.

RAMS CRUSH ZONA 21-7 ON TEAMWORK!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgCardinals (0-3) at Rams (2-1)

CARDINALS RAMS

The Arizona Cardinals record is deceiving at (0-3). It's hard to figure out why they haven't performed to their capability. Between Arizona’s star players, OJ Anderson and Mel Gray, the offense is anchored by LIEFL NFC Pro-Bowl Starter Conrad Doebler and Dan Dierdorf who plays a big game on the inside. So, the question becomes what's the problem? Arizona has been in every game, so close that the game against Carolina and Washington and Seattle were all within three-points as the deciding factor in those games. LIEFL All-Pro return man Mel Gray has had a slow start with only 426 all-purpose yards on eight tries, with just two touchdowns. Gray was a staple of the Cardinals offense in 2022, with 25 touches for 1335 all-purpose yards with six touchdowns, including two 100-yard runs! That is the issue for Arizona.

The team has had some bad breaks with a brutal schedule, but they have to be ready for the Los Angeles Rams. Since Billy O’C won’t be coming back this season, Coach Joe Bino, our alternate coach, will take his place. Bino will be just fine, and he always has a trick or two up his sleeve as a quality coach. He's more than capable of taking any of Billy O’C's teams to the playoffs, just like Levi Vick has done a great job writing these posts.

League Commissioner and coach, Billy O’C is really going to miss an opportunity to play in a Super Bowl Game with his Dolphins if they go that far. In that case, depending on where he is at with his B A T B O Y documentary, he might consider playing in a Super Bowl if the Dolphins make it. More than likely though the type of guy O’C is if they make it Bino will be playing that game.

The Rams have been under the microscope as the favorite to make the playoffs in the NFC West and they played three quality games. They had the hardest time with the Giants who just lost to the New Orleans Saints. The Saints were the underdog in that game, but they overcame obstacles in the game and surprised the Giants with a 24-21 win!

This Rams team is loaded with firepower on offense. They can go to Ricky Proehl, Eric Dickerson, Isaac Bruce, and then you have the diversified Wendell Tyler who can do it all!

Anytime you have two division rivals going at it we never know who's going to show up to play. Will it be the Rams of old who won two LIEFL back-to-back Super Bowls within the last five years or will the draft have that much of an impact that the Rams take a hiatus from the playoffs with the fierce competition as we get closer to Week#6 and Week #7.

The Rams did not qualify for the playoffs last season and nor did the Cardinals. Coach Bino said, “Well I'm here to assure and ensure that this Rams team is going to make it back to the show, and I they will be a big part of the NFC playoff picture. I need to get this team going on all cylinders not just the running game. With Rams receivers Ricky Proehl and Isaac Bruce, we can be a very explosive team and that's what we have to focus on. Today's game plan is to put as much pressure as possible on Kevin Mack’s Cardinals.”

THE GAME:

rams1(4)art.thumb.jpg.2c886dc53a373300659da0a621c9bfd2.jpg

This game opened with Rams return man the Rev., Isaac Bruce taking the opening kick return down the center of the field for a 57-yard run back. The Arizona defense kicked in fast holding Rams running back Wendell Tyler to zero yards. On 3rd down the Los Angeles line kicked in as Coach Joe Bino connected with Isaac Bruce who broke free on the left side of the field for a 55-yard electrifying touchdown catch to give the Rams the lead, 7-0! Bino, a racecar driver and entrepreneur went wild!rams2(1)art.thumb.jpg.f08eb88f4ec714572ffb46a0601d9bf5.jpg

Arizona got the better of LA against the Fab-Five defense of the Rams. Zona’s Mel Gray returned to 41-yard kick return on the Cardinals first possession. The Rams came up huge on defense though in this line battle in the trenches, stuffing OJ Anderson and forcing a third down pass play. Zona receiver Larry Fitzgerald broke free on the right side of the Rams defense for a 75-yard touchdown scamper to even the score 7-7, with the first half coming to an end.

rams4art.thumb.jpg.f06df507688ec654ecb89a87ea993fd1.jpgAfter a 51-yard kick return by Isaac Bruce the Rams were stopped on the first two plays from scrimmage on huge plays by the Zona defense for a loss by Cards Mel Gray and Conrad Doebler. Arizona forced a 4th down passing play for the Rams. For the first time this season, Rams running back Eric Dickerson took a 53-yard pass play into the end zone to give the Rams the lead 14-7 with 9:07 remaining in the game! Wow, what a play!

In a turn of events while Coach Kevin Mac’s Arizona Cardinals played good defensively, they could not move the football on offense on their next set of downs after 63-yard kick return by Mel Gray, the Cardinals failed to get a first down resulting in the turnover to the Rams.

With less than a 1:30 to go in the game Wendell Tyler torched the right side of the field for a 47-yard touchdown run to give the Rams a 21-7 victory in stunning fashion for Coach Joe Bino!rams3art.thumb.jpg.189cd826dbfc709b842ed254ee56c3b4.jpg

Los Angeles balanced their attack equally amongst the receivers in the backfield, and it ended up being the key to the game. Coach Bino and the Rams (3-1) won their third game of the season. LIEFL All-Pro Isaac Bruce had 163 yards in the game on three touches with a 55-yard touchdown reception.

For the Cardinals Mel Gray had three touches for 115 yards and Larry Fitzgerald had an amazing 75-yard touchdown catch but the Cardinals (0-4), remain windless. Gray has had a sluggish year.

Los Angeles won't have it easy in the upcoming weeks, facing division rivals San Francisco and then Seattle and Marshawn Lynch on the road. The Rams will have to rise to the occasion and battle for their division, but it makes for great competition and electric football, and this division may be settled in the final week of the season. Arizona will have to play for pride and wait until next year unless something happens in the division where everyone loses three or four games, but the Cardinals would have to win there next three. Arizona plays the Dallas Cowboys at home next week, then San Francisco on the road, with their last game hosting the Cleveland Browns.

VIGGS REDSKINS STAY UNBEATEN WITH WIN OVER SEAHAWKS!

SKINS3ART.thumb.jpg.69b33b5cc1aa83fc0d79e011303ad39f.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgRedskins (3-0) Seahawks (1-2)

REDSKINS SEAHAWKS PRE-GAME

Ed Viggs Washington Redskins have their biggest challenger of their undefeated season against Coach Bobby Biggs Seattle Seahawks. Biggs is beginning to show his worth after his big win over the Giants this week with his Saints. Playing a hot team with the best coach in the league may prove too much for the rookie coach. If anyone can beat coach Ed Viggs Skins, Seattle with LIEFL All-Pro running back Marshawn Lynch has a chance. Lynch has played well with 22 touches for 758 all-purpose yards with six touchdowns, including 201 yards rushing in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Viggs always has a master plan and with that front line of the Redskins, this will be a war!

Viggs Redskins have won 113 games in this league. While Redskins star Tony Green has 8 touches for 520 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns, including three 100-yard touchdowns, the Redskins have struggled with the running game. Green has just 91 yards rushing this season. Viggs said, “All that counts is the W’s, not the rushing yards. We’ll just see about that today. I am getting more players involved in the offense here. Charlie Taylor has been explosive with three receptions for 123 yards with two touchdowns last week against the Cowboys on their home turf. The more weapons the better, it’s not all about Tony Green. We are coming for Seattle in every way.” Washington has been to the playoffs nine times in this league. They won LIEFL Super Bowl VII in 1984 against Miami in OT 34-31, in one of our greatest games played between Viggs and Billy O'C.

Rookie coach Bobby Biggs said, “I want to face the best coach in the league,” but can Biggs take advantage of the home field edge? This is the turning point of the season for the Seattle Seahawks.

THE GAME:

Coach Ed Viggs Washington Redskins arrived at this field with a blistering defense, but the Seattle Seahawks were just one step short of matching that energy. The Redskins held the Seahawks to just three points on the opening drive. Marshawn Lynch rushed for just 20 yards while Washington Redskins tackle Joe Jacoby making three of the first five tackles of the game!

With the score 3-0, the Seahawks defense came up big to start the second half also making the Redskins earn every step of the field in this playoff like battle!

Tony Green returned a 48-yard kick return on the opening possession for Washington. After picking up 19-yards on the ground game, the Redskins Coach Viggs aired it out to receiver Art Monk, who was wide open for a 25-yard touchdown play to give the Redskins the lead on the road 7-3, ending the first half!SKINS1(1)ART.thumb.jpg.4a24a255abacd671fbb3fe0efd8c07ac.jpg

The Seahawks battled back. On Seattle's next possession, Marshawn Lynch ran back an 89-yard kick return only to be turned to the left side of the field and out of bounds. On the next play Lynch ran in for the touchdown from 11 yards away to give the Seahawks the lead, 10-7!

SKINS2ART.thumb.jpg.ee21131edc208c3500c71d0f07f05835.jpgOne thing is for certain the Redskins are for real! The Washington front line is filled with powerhouses led by Dave Butts, Charles Mann, and Dexter Manley. The Redskins marched down field with a 46-yard kick return by Tony Green. Green complimented that drive with an 18-yard run, and then a 17-yard run, until finally he was the Seahawks defense stopped him. With just seconds left to go in the game, coach Viggs connected with his favorite receiver Art Monk again on a pop pass and the speedy Monk put on the afterburners running down the right side of the field for 19-yards into the end zone, scoring his second touchdown of the game!

The Redskins delivered a stunning and damaging heartbreaking loss to Seattle, 14-10! Rookie Coach Bobby Biggs dropped his 9th game of the season, and it was another stellar performance for Coach Ed Viggs as Viggs sees his league leading 11th win of the season. Viggs preparation and study of football is at the top in the league. Coaches aren't ribbing Biggs like they did when Levi Vick was a rookie in the league. Viggs said, "Bobby Biggs is a great coach. That doesn't mean that I don't want to beat him and dominate the league. The LIEFL is a super league, but some of the guys are really anti-social interpersonally. They get loud when they don't win, but otherwise they are quite."

Washington (4-0), remains unbeaten!  One fact remains, these are not the Redskins from last year that's for sure! Coach Ed Viggs has this team playing on all cylinders and they will be a tough team to beat down the stretch! Washington has the comfort of playing at home hosting the Jets next week and then the Patriots before finishing the season against the Giants in New York. We have not had an undefeated team in the seven-game season format. The Seahawks(1-3) still have an outside shot for the postseason hosting Philadelphia, then the LA Rams and finally, the Chicago Bears on the road which may be the determining factor!

COWBOYS REIN IN MIAMI 17-14 DELIVERING FIRST LOSS OF SEASON!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgDolphins (3-0) at Cowboys (2-1)

DOLPHINS COWBOYS PRE-GAME

The undefeated Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys is a huge game for both teams. To stay in the race in the NFC East Dallas has to win this game at home and Coach Levi Vick says when you play Miami you have to be able to get the special teams game going because the Dolphins defense is fierce. “I think our offense is great and we will be competitive, but the key is to get on the board first and kill the clock and keep the ball out of Duper and Clayton's hands,” said Vick.

Mercury Morris has been non-existent this season for the Dolphins, so they need to get him in the game and get him going. Bino said, “We'll see. Playing back-to-back games is not easy. I have a headache from the planning, but I think I have something in the works against the Cowboys. The Cowboys have a triple threat with Terrell Owens, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith. “I think our guys on the line match up with them well,” said Bino. You always have to watch out for Emmitt Smith but really, the guy that we have to stop is Terrell Owens.” Owens is ranked 8th in NFC All-Purpose yards with 10 touches for 495 yards with one touchdown.

The Cowboys have worn their popular white jerseys nearly every game this year. Coach Levi Vick says that it gives his team good luck and they're going out here today to surprise the Dolphins, Vick said. Dallas can play, especially that front line made up of Larry Allen, Ed “Too-Tall” Jones, and Leon Lett.

Miami will have a hard time with Randy White at tackle, but Dallas will be challenged by Jason Taylor. Taylor is the key to the offense rolling for Miami. Mark Duper has been a force in the AFC. Duper is ranked 7th in all-purpose yards with nine touches for 578-yards with three big 100-yard kick returns for touchdowns. And when Duper slips up Mark Clayton will be there. Both are lethal.

THE GAME:

Coach Levi Vick had his Cowboys ready for the opening kickoff and Terrell Owens runback was plastered at the 34-yard line by Miami’s Mercury Morris! The Cowboys offensive line manhandled the Dolphins on the first play with an Emmitt Smith 66-yard explosion into the end zone untouched by a tough Miami Dolphins defense, 7-0 Dallas in the lead! Where was alternate Coach Joe Bino’s lineman?

DALLDOL3(1)artclayton.thumb.jpg.5857fb4c8315e98626b30d5364770999.jpgCoach Joe Bino answered and came right back with a Mark Duper 50-yard kick return on the Dolphins first possession. The Dolphins have been limited on the ground this season, but they put up the wins. Mercury Morris ran for 17 total yards on the first set of downs, and on third down Bino found a wide-open Mark Clayton who was just a short step ahead of Tony Dorsett who was picked and blocked by Dolphins LIEFL All-Pro Mark Duper, to make way for the Mark's brothers tandem. Clayton launched with his speed, taking the ball 43-yards up field into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7, with 2:26 remaining in a half! This is a great war!

The Cowboys came roaring right back with a 38-yard kick return for Terrell Owens. After four straight runs by the Cowboys, Dallas crossed midfield into Dolphin’s territory and Levi Vick connected on a rocket to Terrell Owens who blazed 47-yards for the score, giving the Cowboys the lead,14-7 with 8 minutes left to go in the game.DALLDOL1ART.thumb.jpg.d80c59508ae9fdce6b9220eadc6616b5.jpg

Miami’s Mark Duper returned a gritty kick return on the ensuing kickoff 74-yards to the Dallas 26-yard line. On first down Mercury Morris exploded 26 yards into the end zone to tie the score 14-14, with less than 5 minutes left to go in the game!

On the ensuing kickoff, Terrell Owens exploded for a 43-yard kick return on the Cowboys final possession. With less than two-minutes left to go in the game, it was Emmitt Smith again for the Cowboys who ran a 7-yard run, killing the clock on the Dolphins. On second down, with 20 seconds remaining in the game, the Dallas Cowboys killed the clock, beating the unbeaten Miami Dolphins 17-14, on a 50-yard field goal in glorious fashion in week 4!

It was a great matchup and great game with Miami playing right to the last second of the game on the road losing their first game of the season.

At (3-1) the Cowboys are in great position for another playoff run under this coach Levi Vick. It won't be easy. They play host to the winless Arizona Cardinals next week in Week #5, and then they head to New York to play the contending Giants. Vick said, "Just because the Cardinals haven't won a game, doesn't mean they are a walk-over. It's anyone's game and they are playing for pride." Dallas plays their final game on the road at the hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers! The Dolphins are in great position to make the playoffs for the forth consecutive season in their run to make more history chasing their seventh title. Miami hosts the Las Vegas Raiders and then Philadelphia Eagles, before they play Buffalo at Buffalo in the season finale!

BILLS JAY BROWN BEATS JETS 14-10 WITH 100-YARD RETURN!

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgBills (2-1) Jets (1-2)

BILLS JETS PRE-GAME

From the start of their season the Buffalo Bills have been on the radar as one of the top teams in the AFC. They opened the season with a loss to Kansas City 38-35, and BOOM! … that opened eyes!

Between the combination of OJ Simpson’s explosive running and the sensation of Jay Brown, who leads the AFC in all-purpose yards, these Bills and the “Electric Company” are on the radar of every team. Simpson ranks #2 in AFC rushing with 17 touches for 318 yards with seven touchdowns for the former LIEFL Super Bowl XIII MVP! Brown is the 2nd Leading all-purpose player in the entire LIEFL with 13 touches for 953 yards with five touchdowns, all 100-yard returns! In just his third year in the league Bills #1 LIEFL draft pick Jay Brown is chasing Philadelphia’s Harold Camichael’s LIEFL record of eleven-100-yard touchdown returns set in 2019. That season Carmichael had 26 kick returns for 1786 kick return yards with 13 total touchdowns, eleven were 100-yard returns. In a competitive league, that is an enormous feat.

Coach Joey Pizz and his Jets have played very hard this year. They've been involved in two overtime losses which could have gone either way with the flip of a coin in Dallas when they lost to the Cowboys 34-28, in almost 10 minutes of overtime. Then last week, the Jets lost to the Raiders 27-21, in overtime.

This isn't the same as the New York Jets from last year. New York made several changes from the draft. The big news is running back Le'Veon Bell and the Jets running game. Although they didn't move the ball last week against the Raiders, Bell is dangerous. He had 145-yards rushing with three touchdowns against Dallas in Week #1 and in Week #2, against Jacksonville, Bell exploded for 140 more yards. He's the number three rusher in the AFC behind Buffalo’s OJ Simpson.

The Jets Frontline played well, and the biggest surprise of the season is tight end Don Maynard. Maynard has seven touches for 427 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns including three 100-yard returns for touchdowns. The Jets are competing hard in the AFC East, but they have a huge mountain to climb with games against the undefeated Redskins, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, in their last game of the season!

THE GAME:

It's important to emphasize before the game starts just how important it is for both division rivals to win. This could make or break one of these teams’ playoff hopes. The Jets at home must win this game. The Buffalo Bills, being the number one offense in the league, has to show some defense today against a tough Jets running game led by rising star Le’Veon Bell. Bills Coach Joe Bino hopes to shut down Bell, and they're going to have to pay very close attention to Don Maynard who's been explosive this season, and Wesley Walker who will most certainly see action in the game. The Jets have their hands full between OJ Simpson and Jay Brown.

Bino has coached very well in Billy OC's absence. He's a much better passer than O’C, which means his teams have a strong ability to execute because of his success in the passing game.

JETS1(1)ART.thumb.jpg.b1ad9aaefb70874b4a64f154481b6642.jpgOn the opening kickoff, Jets return specialist Don Maynard was crushed at the 30-yard line by Buffalo’s Jim Braxton. Buffalo is a hard-hitting team, led by a front line of stacked All-Pro’s Marcell Dareus and Bruce Smith. That Bills front line didn't stop the Jets running game. With their backs against the wall the Jets rose to the occasion. Le'Veon Bell exploded for a 53-yard first down to the 17-yard line of Buffalo. Two plays later Bell ran in a 17-yard touchdown run to give the Jets the lead 7-0, in an electrifying game!

The Jets returned the favor with a huge hit on the Bills first kick return by star return specialist Jay Brown. Brown was clobbered at the 28-yard line with a head-on collision by Joe Klecko.

Buffalo wasted no time and OJ Simpson had runs of 31, 23, 5, 2, and finally 10 yards into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7! Simpson and the Bills look like a serious contender!JETS2(5).thumb.jpg.2c5c4941d00dde0c11c0fb0f8fca7074.jpg

On the next series, the Jets switched it up a bit and gave the ball back to Wesley Walker who ran back in 80-yard kick return, and out of nowhere Preston Brown made a huge tackle to save the Bills from the Jets scoring a touchdown! The Buffalo Bills held the Jets to a field goal from 42-yards away to give New York the lead, 10-7 over the Buffalo Bills!

Unbelievable! On the bills next possession Jay Brown ran back his sixth 100-yard touchdown run of the season to give Buffalo the lead 14-10, with six minutes left to go in the game!

The Jets did not quit. Wesley Walker ran back of 46-yard kick return and the Jets passed twice gaining 15 yards, but unfortunately the clock ran out of time in a dramatic game with the Buffalo Bills coming from behind to win their third game of the season, hurting the Jets and Joey Pizz goal to make the playoffs.

What a game it was. Le'Veon Bell was solid, rushing for 80-yards on six touches with one touchdown, and Bell totaled 95-all-purpose yards on the day with eight touches. Wesley Walker is back. Walker exploded with 126-yards in the game, including a huge 80-yard kick return, but it wasn't enough for the Jets and Coach Joey Pizz who ran out of time.

JETS3ART.thumb.jpg.77880bc7b0a28d98a27316948670cd3b.jpgBuffalo playmaker Jay Brown was the hero of the day for the Bills with his 100-yard kick return, which was enough to seal the victory for Buffalo! Brown finished the game with two touches for 128 yards with that 100-yard touchdown return, breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career. What an exciting player! To think that Jay Brown had just six touches for 345 yards with two touchdowns in 2022, shows his amazing growth and improvement as a PRIME TIME addition to the Electric Company!

Buffalo (3-1), hosts the Tennessee Titans (1-3) next week, and then they face the high-octane LA Chargers at Los Angeles in a Week #6 war, before concluding their season possibly for the AFC East Division title against Miami (3-1).

The Jets won’t have it easy. Their season is on the verge of being unhinged. New York hits the road against Coach Ed Viggs unbeaten powerhouse Washington Redskins (4-0) in Week #5, and then the Jets host the defending LIEFL Super Bowl XVII Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs before ending the 2023 season at Philadelphia to play the Eagles!

JOHNNY FREEPORTS RAVENS UPSET VIGGS 49ERS ON MASON 100-YARD TD, 17-14!

49ERS RAVENS PRE-GAME

Let's face it, men are born for games. Every manchild knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in value of that which is put at hazard. Sure, your leagues probably feel this way that some people just have a mind for football. That describes LIEFL's Coach Ed Viggs. He is a great competitor who keeps coaches honest with his historic play. Coach Paddy Brannigan said, "Viggs is the benchmark and the guy we chase to beat.  I have played countless coaches, but none like the Master of preparation. It's hard to explain what he does with an 11-man team, and I 've played him hundreds of times, mostly on the losing end. Even studying his play I thought I had him figured out, but then he comes up with huge plays that change the way a coach has to play him."

A little more on Coach Viggs. Viggs played on two Long Island Rutgers Cup winning championship teams. The Bayshore High School team was (19-1) in the two seasons so it will be natural and a comfortable fit for Viggs would do the same in Electric football with his football mind as a former quarterback, safety, and slot receiver in addition to being an excellent lacrosse player in college.

It wouldn't matter if it was a bad day, Viggs loves the game, and he comes organized strategically ready to play with a game plan. It's why he's had so much success in this league. We trust he would have the same success in other leagues and has. Other coaches respect his vision and silent but deadly approach to the game. He seems to always figure things out very fast as the game is moving and he makes the adjustments quickly to both sides of the ball.

As for his San Francisco 49ers, they went from NFC Champions to a team battling from behind trying to save their 2023 season. The 49ers have a brutal schedule, beating Seattle in the season opener, but losing two straight on the road to revived Dallas and Cincinnati teams. Coach Ed Viggs said, “I need to get this team going before it’s too late and I need to see Jerry Rice play like he did last season so that we get better field position for Watters. Rickey Watters will take it from there, and I need to get Dwight Clark more involved in the game at tight end. We can’t have a late engine start in an LIEFL season because by then, it is too late. I want this team in the post-season, but they must perform. They won seven games last season, no excuses.”

Jerry Rice is at the bottom half of NFC in all-purpose yards currently ranked 16th in the NFC, with just seven touches for 264 all-purpose yards with just one touchdown. That is the difference in the 49ers. Last season Rice ranked about the same, 14th in the NFC with 20 touches for 996 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns, two receiving and one 100-yard return. But in the playoffs, Rice launched the 49ers to the Super Bowl. He was a completely different player in San Francisco’s run to LIEFL Super Bowl XVII with over 1,000 all-purpose yards in the post-season.

THE GAME:

Coach Johnny Freeport's Ravens have a chance to take charge of the AFC North by winning this game. Let’s see how they match up against the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers. San Fran needs to explode today in order to keep up with the NFC West leading LA Rams (3-1).

This is the turning point in the season where teams have to rise to the occasion. The Rams have some structural weaknesses, but San Francisco has Coach Ed Viggs who Baltimore has to contend with. Viggs seems to pull off miracles, and today he faces a must-win situation. San Francisco still has a shot at making the playoffs and the league has seen some brutal schedules this year which has made it ultra-competitive. The buzzwords around the league are intense, determined, and battle to the end.

The Baltimore Ravens came out to play. LIEFL All-Pro Derrick Mason returned a strong 56-yard kick return to open the game for the Ravens, but the San Francisco defense held Ravens running back Jamal Lewis to just four yards in the first half. It was Mark Andrews who took a 56-yard touchdown play into the end zone to give Baltimore the 7-0 lead!

49ers5ART.thumb.jpg.b6feed4b93682a309149bc7b01e74a74.jpgSan Francisco's Jerry Rice could only muster 21-yards on the opening possession for the 49ers. It was all Ricky Watters from there. Watters exploded on first down with a 59-yard run coupled by two more runs from four yards, and then Watters exploded for a 16-yard touchdown scant to tie the game, 7-7!
On Baltimore's second possession Derrick Mason run back 85-yards, but the Ravens offense could not capitalize on this tough 49ers defense who  limited Baltimore to just a field goal from 22-yards away to give the Ravens the edge 10-7, with 7:51 remaining in the game.
On the 49ers ensuing kickoff Jerry Rice weaved through lanes for 81-yards on the kick return to the 19-yard line of Baltimore. What a play! Two plays later it was San Francisco running back Ricky Watters doing the work. Watters ran for his second touchdown of the game, this time from 19-yards to give the 49ers the lead, 14-10 with just 4 minutes to go in the game.49ers4(1)ART.thumb.jpg.7b4019f8fb9771f0a276846fb2c9f686.jpg

On ensuing kickoff for the Ravens, Derrick Mason exploded for a 100-yard kick return, silencing the 49ers defense, giving Baltimore the lead for good, 17-14 with 3 minutes left to go in the game and what a game it is! Derrick Mason's 100-yard kick return won the game for the Baltimore Ravens who played fantastic against Coach Viggs 49ers! Coach Johnny Freeport is uncontrollable with enthusiasm. "You ain't so bad Viggs, and I have more where that came from Pretty-Boy." No answer from Viggs, just laughs.
Like a kid, Johnny Freeport's trash talking continued the whole way out to coach Viggs, but what a game it was for the Ravens who pulled off a big big win, making it difficult for the 49ers to contend for the playoffs.
A disappointed coach Viggs look dejected. The 49ers (1-3) have three straight home games to their advantage to close the season, so they are not out of the playoff picture, but it will be a challenge. They play division rival LA Rams, and then the winless Arizona Cardinals who might be the toughest (0-4) team in the league. San Francisco will finish with a huge challenge hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers and Lynn Swann.
Imagine San Francisco went from the NFC champions to being torn up fighting a determined Ravens football team. The story of the day for the Ravens was Derrick Mason who was a beast! Mason finished the game with three touches for 241 all-purpose yards, with the huge 100-yard TD runback that won the game for Baltimore!

The Ravens have a tough road ahead. They are at Cleveland next week, and then they host the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts before concluding at the high-octane LA Chargers at Los Angeles.

ALSWORTH WINS GAME FOR CHARGERS WHO SEND BRONCOS THEIR FIRST LOSS 21-14!
BRONC3ART.thumb.jpg.1310ac66a0169e0894010f0990c3a986.jpg

longislandelectricfootballleague2020logo.jpg.5069c7c3e75acb026f2b3be55f776f7c.jpgBroncos (3-0) Chargers (2-1)

BRONCOS CHARGERS PRE-GAME

It looks like the war for the AFC West is going to go through Los Angeles. The Denver Broncos have surprised the league this year and coming into this game undefeated adds an enormous amount of pressure for coach Kevin Mac. The biggest challenge for Denver will be LA lineman, Earl Faison. Faison has been dominant in the trenches for the Broncos. As for Denver’s offense, Terrell Davis has to have a BIG day on the road when the Broncos get the football. Davis has been busy. He ranks 5th in AFC rushing with 26 touches for 272-yards with four touchdowns and 33 all-purpose touches for 705-yards, ranking Davis 5th overall in the AFC.

This won't be just any game for the Denver Broncos on the road at Los Angeles to play the Chargers. The Broncos need to put up a defense that can stop LaDainian Tomlinson in a big way. Tomlinson is currently ranked 6th in AFC rushing with LAC 15 touches for 189-yards with just two rushing touchdowns. He has had a bit of an off year, but the Chargers are (2-1).

Coach Viggs has been toying with the idea of letting Kellen Winslow return kicks. This might not be the game to do that against a huge division rival like the Broncos, but Viggs always has confidence in his players when it comes to performing. LaDainian Tomlinson has been the AFC's best runner for the past two seasons but this season he has slipped a bit. Tomlinson had 83 touches for 1624 all-purpose yards with 13 touchdowns in 2022!

As the league evolves, the running backs face new challenges. Coach Viggs loves to blitz his linebackers and that'll be tough for Mac to deal with. That is why Denver's special teams’ unit is so important to this game because that's where Terrell Davis is at his best.

THE GAME:

A determined Coach Ed Viggs Chargers came out to stomp the Denver Broncos on the opening drive as LaDainian Tomlinson returned the ball 98-yards to the two-yard line, and two plays later Tomlinson scored to give the Los Angeles the lead, 7-0. Would the Denver Broncos be ready to beat this proven Chargers team?

Denver's Terrell Davis returned the first possession for the Broncos 44-yards. The L A D E F E N S E led by powerhouse Earl Faison brought some crushing blows to stop Davis on three runs. On 4th down, Patty Brannigan threw a beautiful pass to receiver Ed McCaffrey, who took it 55 yards downfield to tie the game at 7-7!

What an exciting game between these two teams. To close the first half it was LaDainian Tomlinson again who ran the ball back for a big 42-yard run. On first down Tomlinson ran 28-yards for a first down.

BRONC2ART.thumb.jpg.6acf181f9d950d7dbeb94eba6dfa232d.jpgThe second half began with LaDainian Tomlinson bullying his way for another Chargers first down on their first play of the second half. After an 11-yard run the Chargers were met by a defiant Broncos defense led by Paul Smith, and the Los Angeles was forced to pass. But leave it to coach Viggs. Viggs pulled a quarterback sneak into the e
nd zone to give the Chargers the 14-7 lead! What a play with 7:00 minutes left to go in the game!

Without Terrell Davis at full speed, the rusty Broncos showed that Davis is not the whole team. With time running out Davis ran for 12 yards on two carries after he returned the football for 40-yards. And it was Ed McCaffrey again who broke free tearing up the grid on a beautiful pass by Paddy Brannigan, his second of the game to McCaffrey! This time McCaffrey took it 49-yards into the end zone to tie the score at 14-14!bronc6art.thumb.jpg.dc544aac81eae667011cde2480dea63c.jpg

LA Coach Viggs, the master of the clock managed the last Chargers drive brilliantly. With 44 seconds remaining Viggs set up the kick return but instead of giving it to Tomlinson for some reason he gave it to Lance Alsworth who hit Denver with the element of surprise, returning a blazing 100-yard return for a Los Angeles Chargers touchdown, delivering Denver their first loss of the season, 21-14, and Viggs is (12-3)! To add insult to injury, the Chargers take back first place from the Denver Broncos (3-1) in a war! What an unbelievable game and what a way to end Week #4!

Two out of the LA Chargers next three games are at home so that puts LA in incredible position for yet another playoff run! The Chargers have a war next week against one of their top rivals and arch enemy Buffalo Bills (3-1). Why arch enemy? The Bills seem to have the Chargers number. In 2018, after losing to the LA Rams in LIEFL Super Bowl XIV 31-28, the Chargers lost in the AFC Divisional Championship Game to Buffalo 49-48 in a thriller! So, Coach Viggs is determined to make the big plays against a much better than previous Bills team whose front line is stacked with stars, and with the season OJ Simpson is having along with Jay Brown, it will be a game on everyone's radar in the LIEFL! The real question is can alternate LIEFL Coach Joe Bino do the honor of handling a game the way Coach Bill O'C would when he coached Buffalo?

What an awesome week of electric Football!

Written with honor and joy, by Levi Vick while coach Billy O’C is out for the remainder of the 2023 LIEFL season. Tell me how the write-up's are and what I can do different?

The write up seemed excellent to me! 😃👍 A bit too much smack talk, but I think that's normal for the LIEFL and ultimately I believe it demonstrates how close your friendships are. I hope you are able to land the full-time reporting job.

I hope Billy feels better soon.

Enjoy the Journey.   T43   🏈♾️

LOL! I enjoy writing ... We have several league mouths, but that's a New York thing.  Billy O'C is working on his documentary, thus here I am carrying on tradition. Thank you for reading the post!
