Inside TOEPRO Football

You find what you’re looking for.

Electric Football Leagues are always seeking rule changes to create real football competition.  The problem is EF rulebooks, since 1994 (Stats Arcade EF), tried to validate something that NEVER HAPPENS in football.  Defensive knowledge about something more than the offensive formation before the snap.

This was a violation of “THE FIRST LAW” of football-at the snap or kick.

If, circa 1993, I saw the game’s original scrimmage procedures (shown here), I would have made only a few changes in wording and as officials say in football, “play on Coach”.IMG_5462.thumb.jpeg.2f43ac78012b2268f94d884a8217da24.jpegIMG_5469.thumb.png.037145168896ae2a745dca161d45303e.png

That’s because the only “evolution” EF needed was attention to the passing game, not changing the first law to be “innovative” or “nuanced”.   IMG_5470.thumb.png.d5b70addef37dfc75703490983e9535b.pngIMG_5468.thumb.png.a42c92314a92a07b4d829582c29de33a.png

So simple that after I revised only a few words, I found it looked just like TOEPRO Football. IMG_5430.jpeg.42f73e3930d1cc43f94385d5c71a3712.jpeg

The question is do we want to play a serious board game or continue to play with our toys?

I always take my toys seriously. 😃

Kit,

Are there rules for “freeze frames” (or something similar) included in ToePro?  Specifically in the defensive backfield?

I found this statement in the most recent TOEPRO rule book:

... Modifications will leave figures in tact with base magnets only for holding TTQB's base steady during passes and kicks.

This would seem to indicate only magnets are legal and Freeze Frames are not legal. Magnets are only legal for holding the TTQB's base steady during passes or kicks. Which leaves out Safeties, Cornerbacks, and Linebackers.

I might be incorrectly reading the rules. 📚

Since I only participate in playing solitaire, I have no problem with freeze frames. Magnets are what I use, but if ever prompted to get a freeze frame or two, I would experiment with different uses and probably enjoy doing so. Still, it is very interesting, the debate on the uses of freeze frames.

I have never used freeze frames and have no bias one way or the other.
One thought I have had is to wonder how much the frames increase the size of the figures “footprint” and thus, how much the defense is aided in making contact, AKA a tackle.

I was thinking of using them on regular draws and RB draws.

I was also thinking of using them in the defensive backfield for zone D’s.  If the play is a pass or option and the offense stops the board, it would be simple to take them off and point them in the correct direction.

However, a run play with no board stoppage by the offensive provided a complication.  If the board is stopped by the defense, the RB may be knocked slightly off course by restarting the board.

Definitely. There's the expression that, Football is a Game of Inches. In my experience Electric Football Is a Game of a Hair's Breadth.
