    I don't know. I haven't tried them. I have smooth pliers from Ace Hardware — that aren't curved — and those pliers were about the same price. So I think the price is reasonable.

    I'm curious if you discover the curve makes a prolonged difference in speed, or strength (do the prongs stay tweaked after they've been heated and squeezed with curved pliers)..

    The Consolidation of two teams — the Pink Panthers and the Metallians — into one team (the Pink Panthers) is complete.

    The following Metallian players were offered contracts to start for the Pink Panthers in the next game.

    The Pink Panthers retained 14 of their original 23 players.

    Internally, Pink Panther #81 was moved from Tight End to Wide Receiver.

    All the Metallian players were repainted into Pink Panther uniforms.

    Those players with green platforms were formerly Metallians. Before the next game the platforms will be painted flat black to match the rest of the team.

    Correction: In the first video, the Power I example, I label the Pulling Tackle as a Pulling Guard. Then in the Upback Formation I made the same mistake again. The Pulling Tackle is labeled as a Pulling Guard. Very sorry for those mistakes.

    Clarification: I label the Gaps with letters starting at the Quarterback's far right. So the Gaps are Wide Right R, then A, B, C,  (center) D, E, F, and then Wide Left. L.

    Now, if you think Pink Panthers #49 is scary, just imagine two 300+ running backs in the Pink Panther backfield. Because the Metallians lost — all of the Metallians best players will join the Pink Panthers team. At the top of the Best Metallians Players list is HB #15. This little plastic peep rushed for 324 yards on 9 carries, 151 yards receiving, and 5 touchdowns. 

     

     

    I can hardly wait for this Two-headed Panther to play the blistering Meteor. That game will be in two weeks. Whew!

    Wow! I'm exhausted. What an offensive shootout. The Pink Panthers won the game and will absorb the best players of the Metallians.

    Up next The Baja Blast will attempt to curtail that offense of the Diamond Dawgs. Should be another shootout.

    Pink Panthers Half Back #49 ran effectively from every formation: Power Sweep, Power I, Single Back, Upback, and Pro Set. He finished the game with 375 yards on 22 carries. The little plastic peep scored 4 touchdowns.

    Every word you wrote resonated with me. 😃👍  Thank you for writing my thoughts so eloquently.

    The big event at Tudorcon seems to be the opportunity to compete against other coaches — which is a non-starter for me a solitaire player. From what I've read on the Forum many coaches have come up with truly inspired ways to keep their solitaire games competitive. Letting the dice decide the play, or the formation, for example.

    The one thing that Tudor has that keeps me coming back is the Forum. Yet, the Forum seems to be the last thing on Tudor's mind. There's an expression, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Like Daryl said... crickets. I could be wrong but I don't think I've ever seen a post from Bryan's Solitaire Tournament on the Forum.

    Coach Jayethekxng, where did you find the light-blue double clip bases?

    I have Tudor royal blue bases, and ITZ light blue bases, but I've never seen light-blue double clips. Are they Tudor bases?

    I understand what you mean by, a good batch. The Law of Diminishing Returns sets in quickly.

    The way I get around the Law of Diminishing Returns is to increase the total number of opportunities.

    Consider the Bell Curve. If the batch is 12 bases then 2 (25%) will be horrible 👎, 2 (25%) will be extraordinary 👍, and 8 (50%) will average 🥱. That means only 2 bases out of 12 might make the team. After a couple drafts the extraordinary bases drop to 1 per dozen bases. That's just my experience over the past decade with ITZ, Buzzball, and Tudor bases.

    If you increase the total number of bases in the batch to 184 (8 teams with 23 players on a team) then the Bell Curve looks much better.

    46 is exactly 25% of 184. So 46 bases will be absolute crap. 👎 46 bases will be exceptional. 👍 And 92 bases are average. 🥱(yawn)

    The final two teams (23 players on each team) in my draft tournament should be the best 46 bases. I know this because each team has played at least three games and I have the statistics to document success and failure.

    Don't ask me about why back-to-back championships are so difficult because then I'll have to talk about physics and plastic failure rates. 😃

    Sometimes the new pairing plays better. That was the case with all the Javelin bases except TB #20. I had to repaint Javelin #20. I think the other Javelin bases performed better because the Meteor players have about three layers of paint (factory paint [they were originally the Steelers], flat back primer, and Rust-oleum's color shift pink/champaigne).

    That said, I've also noticed that repainting and the reverse of painting: scraping, also affect the player / base dynamic.

    I'm not too concerned about my investment of time because the players have the absolute minimal tweaking and minimal paint. The players have numbers only on their backs. I can always use the team boxes for next year's draft, or perhaps replace one boring team (like the Blue Jays) with a more meaningful team like the Trans-Am Javelins or Baja Blast.

    Some teams have more detail because they use to be a different team. The Pink Panthers use to be the Oakland Raiders and they still have Raider's names on their backs. The Trans-Am Javelins use to be the Christmas Spirit so they still have the shoulder numbers and the wreath image on the front of the jersey.

    Javelin's WR / KR #3     9 returns for 310 kick return yards; 7 targets for 141 receiving yards; no touchdowns. Problem: Can't find the End Zone.

    Javelin's HB #34           +303 rushing yards on 20 carries; 13 carries for -57 yards; 3 touchdowns. Problem: Loses yards on shortage yardage situations.

    The Meteor Shower just beat the Trans-Am Javelins and eliminated the Javelins.

    Elimination means the Meteor Shower receive the best of the Javelin players and the rest of the Trans-Am Javelin players are headed for the oblivion.

    Meteor cornerback #43 closed out the game with a pick-six.

     

     

    This is the part of the Draft Tournament that I love. These games are analogous to high school games and high school athletes are hopeful they'll get an invitation to try out for a college team. No invitation — No career.

    Tweaking Buzzball Bases

    Another idea to determine stick passing

    I assumed the idea for passing sticks came from miniature warfare tabletop games. This is a quote from the BoardGameGeek Forum,

    "Lately there seems to be a trend away from grid maps back to unmarked terrain and the venerable Little Wars ruler, but I'm puzzled about what you do when the measurement is ambiguous, especially as the distance between two minifigs isn't a super well-defined concept to start with (base to base, or head to head, etc..?). A thought that has occured to me (and no doubt others) to avoid disagreement is to have a little grid map for precise movement and ranging, using the terrain board simply as an approximate display to add to the sense of reality, fun, and tactical thinking."

    Recently I've seen electric football videos where they use spring loaded devices. Remarkably, spring loaded devices go all the way back to 1913 and that little game called Little Wars. H.G. Wells (yes, the science fiction writer) wrote the instruction booklet.

    Wells references a cannon that,

    “The beginning of the game of Little War, as we know it, became possible with the invention of the spring breechloader gun. This priceless gift to boyhood appeared somewhen towards the end of the last century, a gun capable of hitting a toy soldier nine times out of ten at a distance of nine yards, It has completely superseded all the spiral-spring and other makes of gun hiterhto used in playroom warfare. These spring breechloaders are made in various sizes and patterns, but the one used in our game is that known in England as the four-point-seven gun. It fires a wooden cylinder about an inch long, and has a screw adjustment for elevation and depression. It is altogther an elegant weapon.”

    H.G. Wells references the inch-long wooden cylinder in his instruction booklet.

    "(6) When men are knocked over by a shot they are dead, and as many men are dead as a shot knocks over or causes to be knocked over. But if a shot strikes a man but does not knock him over, he is dead, provided the shot has not already killed a man. But a shot cannot kill more than one man without knocking him over, and if it touches several without oversetting them, only the first touched is dead and the others are not incapacitated. A shot that re-bounds from or glances off any object and touches a man, kills him; it kills him even if it simply rolls to his feet, subject to what has been said in the previous."

    Note the drawings of the inch-long cylinder hitting a man, or men. Does this remind any coaches of drawings in electric football instructions and rules manuals?
