What I need is a full game of TAP play put on YouTube on the Tudor site.

    Hi Coach Collins,

These are Bryan's videos of his solitaire league play.

    https://youtu.be/tkflz9_auWY?si=PaFjvU5wohQ87_uM

I'm only familiar with the TAP rules by reading them and from what I've read these Bryan Nutt videos seem very close. All three videos are about 30 minutes long which seems about right for tournament play.

Every single game has a playoff feel to it; a sense of urgency.

Absolutely, Coach Davis. That do-or-die feeling commands my complete attention.

That's why I transitioned from the classic 8-game Season structure to the double elimination tournament. Losing the first game is okay. As the coach that first loss helps me figure out the weak spots, bring up players from the practice team, and do some additional tweaking. However, I (as the coach) can't afford a second loss. The pressure is on to win.

The 3-game season is an excellent way to make the game much more fun.

  3. Icing the Kicker... I must admit my little plastic peeps do get nervous... I encourage them to go behind the bleachers and do whatever they need to do...

    EFHero supplemental rule...

    Quote

Icing the Kicker; This optional rule simulates the mental head games that coaches often play against an opposing team's placekicker during critical field goal attempts or Point-after tries (this does NOT apply to punts or kickoffs). Prior to any field goal attempt or PAT, if the defensive coach calls a timeout just before the snap, the placekicker must perform a 1d20 Ability Check with a Target Number of 12, subject to all modifiers (remember, a placekicker with 50 or more PR points gains a +1 bonus to all Ability Checks).

I think this is just dandy. I believe we could make it a bit more complex by adding a dice throw (d20) to account for wind velocity and soggy field conditions (Field Goal kicking is on Page 40). So, to attempt the Field Goal there's 1. the initial roll of the dice to discover if the kick is long enough, 2. and then we roll for the Wind Velocity. Anything over 16 is Gale Force and the kick is missed, Except if the kicker is a franchise player then the Gale Force number is 18. 😉 3. We should take into account the soggy field with another roll of the d20 dice. Anything over 16 is totally swampy and the kick is missed except if the kicker is a franchise kicker then the soggy field number is 18. 😉

That's a bit too realistic for me, but I understand that many coaches enjoy that level of realism.

I don't have timeouts. If I need to think about my next action I simply stop and think about it. If I decide to go for the Field Goal then I roll the dice. Here are my rules. The rules are in the Terry43 Forum profile.

    • A D6 determines the first number (2 —6).
    • A D10 determines the second number (0—9).
    • The yardage is measured from the line of scrimmage.
    • For a Field Goal to be good the yardage rolled must be longer than the actual yards of the Field Goal attempt.
    • If the yards rolled are less than the actual yards of the Field Goal attempt then the Field Goal was missed.
    • A missed field goal may be returned by the defense.
    • In effect, every Field Goal attempt is either good, or blocked.

I thought you'd like to know that all my little plastic peeps are never selfish, never controversial, and they never participate in shenanigans. They have been known to misunderstand the play and run in the wrong direction. 🤪

  4. Hi Chris. I see you thought of a way to get me to Tudor Con: Guest Speaker. The program abstract might look like this:

The Physics of Electric Football, A thoroughly stimulating exploration of energy transfer through continuous vibration. 2 hours. FREE. Participants will have opportunities for hands-on exploration of adding weight mechanically, coping with friction, and discussion of common misunderstandings about weight and strength.

    🫢

Several of the misunderstandings were in Anthony D. Burgess' post

  7. I'm going to pick the Jets. I appreciate when an offensive line gets good downfield push,  open a hole, and the running back (#28) hits the hole like a rocket sled on wheels. That's what I see here:

    IMG_20240204_151520881.jpg.eb4991912258b7d631eb07b1967c0d08.thumb.jpeg.a7da3626f62df3c50bbc9f216c4de807.jpeg

I know the Cardinals won the NFL championship on a 75 yard run, but I don't see offensive line movement for the Cardinals like I see for the Jets. Maybe the Cardinals depend on their defense a bit too much.

Just speculating before the big game! Thanks for the pictures.😃👍

  9. Coach Collins, I noticed the number 43 in the second picture. Uncanny isn't it? Is that an Alabama Jersey?

In a previous post I remembered the jersey number to be 19. Oh man, high school was a very long time ago.

Aaaagghhh! Six tacklers and 3 assisters is more like a life-ending injury. 😉

So, that's injuries on offense. How about defensive players. How do they get injured?

Penalties are another aspect of real football that I'm not concerned about in my solitaire play. I set up the offense and the defense so any penalties would be on me. Then I start talking to myself...  🤪

I believe Chris LeMay uses cards for penalties. 🃏  How do you do penalties?

Just as long as it's still realistic though,

I believe "realistic" to the NFL is a good jumping off point, but perhaps not the Holy Grail. The FAT8 League actually has injuries.

    Quote

    FAT8 INJURY REPORT

Here we track injuries across the conference. Injuries can often times hurt a teams depth chart. This is why it is so important to prepare your back-up players to be ready to play.

FAT8 is a very active league (and fun League) created by Jamie Ellerbe. I think injuries are an example of taking 'realistic' too far. Just my opinion. I use nuts, washers, and bolts on my players so obviously realism isn't part of my value system.

I'm more inclined to run over my plastic peeps with my chair. I dial 911 and a minute later some super glue usually takes care of the injury.

    Very exciting when they happen!

I enthusiastically agree. 😃👍  Because I play Stop-Forward-Progress tackling I get a lot of Kick Offs returned for Touchdowns. Last Season (18 games) I had 34 Kick offs returned for Touchdowns. So about two a game.

I'm aware that number is very unlike the NFL but I think of two kickoff returns for touchdowns per game as a value the NFL should aspire to. 😃👍 Sure would make NFL games more exciting.

But please don't let that stop you from coming. This is a tournament and CONVENTION. Planning many more activities that should interest people from all facets of the game and hobby, including collecting and solitaire play.

Thank you Chris. You are a very warm and inclusive person.

Truth is, for me, I just don't find electric football to be a spectator sport. I try to watch the videos posted on YouTube and I get bored. The prospect of watching a constant stream of RPOs is making me sleepy just writing about it.

Convention activities such as 'best paint', 'tweaking workshops', and 'strongest, fastest' competitions are probably of secondary interest because my game play is so eccentric. As Bryan states in the TAP rules:

    Quote
    • You would be amazed at what some people try to do to their players to make them perform better!  Basically, you are allowed to add weight to the player and base by adding putty underneath the base.  Also, you are allowed to add two-sided tape to the player connection to the base.  That’s about it.

I'm the 'Some People' he is referencing. So, I won't be there.

I will miss seeing the Museum Exhibit. I've enjoyed the historical stories you've posted.

  18. I didn't like this rule when I heard it on the AEFL channel and I'm still not thrilled by it.

    Quote

To keep it simple in “TAP”, the center will always line up in the center of the field between the hash marks.

Again, another rule where the purpose of the rule is to keep the game moving quickly.

However, this rule seems to defeat the idea of football.

    Quote

All plays are read-option plays!  No need to call run or pass before the play.

I believe many people will  like these TAP rules. However, I believe the emphasis on making the game fast has put a damper on it for me.

  19. Finally an acknowledgment that fumbles don't occur in electric football because everyone can securely wedge the ball under the ball carriers arm. The ball doesn't jiggle loose. So let's just admit fumbles don't occur and move on.

Nope. Can't do that. We must keep fumbles in the game.

    Quote
    • How does a player fumble?  You create a fumble by knocking down a player during a tackle!  If this happens, the offensive coach flips a coin: heads the offense keeps it, tails the defense takes over!

Well, if I can knock down the ball carrier during a tackle why don't we just play tackle football?

    Really, I'm enjoying this journey.   T43.   🏈♾️

  20. My best players play on offense and defense. Little plastic peeps don't get tired, or develop muscle cramps. So why this rule?

    Quote
    • Can you switch bases out between players during a game?  NO!  The only base switching that is allowed is the QB – he can go from a moving base to a stationary base and vice-versa during a play.

So, white jerseys on Defense and dark jerseys on Offense and I can't use my best bases on offense and defense?

I believe the only purpose of this rule is to keep the game moving fast. Am I right?

  21. I can't believe this statement remains in the TAP rules.

    Quote
    • Some coaches don’t take pride in how their team looks on the field but make sure you at least have a number on the back of the jersey.   Remember Prime Time: “If you look good – you feel good; if you feel good – you play good; if you play good- you know the rest.

Neither Uni-forms, nor superb paint make an average team a championship team.

I have found that to make a base go straight, put it under a player that you tell to turn - in my experience it is a sure-fire way to get a base to go straight!  It also works in reverse - a player on a base that you tell to run straight will invariably turn!

Exactly. When you give in and say, "Fine. Do what you want," then when the game is on the line the player will have a change of heart and do just the opposite. 🤪
