  1. I held weight pushing trials for four players today. I also ran these strong men through the forty-yard dash.

If the Draft was today Meteor Tackle #74 would be First Round, third or fourth overall pick.

Meteor Tackle/ Defensive End #74   At 5.25 grams he is the lightest weight player. Is the fastest in the forty-yard dash. Second in head-to-head competition.

Angels of Avalon Defensive End / Tight End #99   At 5.35 grams he should be stronger. Middle of the pack in the forty-yard dash. Last in head-to-head competition.

Baja Blast Meteor Tackle/ Defensive End #77 Tudor Big Man. Weighs 5.53 grams. Slogs through the forty-yard dash. Third in head-to-head competition.

Dragons Defensive End / Tight End #98   Weighs 5.26 grams. Had trouble pushing 33.5 grams. Took three attempts to get the dice three yards. Won the head-to-head competition. Downside is erratic behavior. He didn't finish the 40-yard dash on most occasions because he went out of bounds after about 20 yards.

  2. Which of my Offensive Linemen / Defensive Linemen could be a #1 draft choice?

Strength is important and the determination of strength is sometimes subjective. I have three methods for getting the little plastic peeps true strength.

1st.  I glued two metal dice together and their combined weight is 33.56 grams. I measure if a lineman can push 6 times his body weight for three yards. Timing this exercise can be informative also.

2nd. I place two players head-to-head and see which one can push the other around. I put less emphasis on this method because a base with a high coefficient of friction may be difficult to push backwards but doesn't push forward very well.

    This video illustrates both.

3rd is statistical. On Defense I look at the number of tackles / tackles for lost yards / QB sacks over three games. On Offense I look at the positive yards gained — over three games — through the B-gap, C-gap, D-gap, and E-gap. B-gaps and E-gaps usually reflect strong tackles. C-gap and D-gap usually indicate a strong Center / Guard relationship.

  3. Thanks Coach Collins. It's a labor of love. Do you remember this NCAA commercial:

“Almost all of us will be going pro in something other than sports.”

The point of the commercial is to remind high-level student-athletes that everyone doesn’t make it. 98% of them won’t make it. Hence, they will graduate and be professionals in their respective lines of work.

The NCAA guesses that 1% of D1 athletes ever go pro.

D1 athletes play at the bigger schools. Schools like Notre Dame, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Alabama. These athletes were the best in the country.

I started with 184 players and when I'm done I'll know — with confidence — I have the top players in their positions.

  4. Coach Carl, I forgot to tell you in the Ohio Comets at Texas Tornadoes post that I like the way you do field goals and PATs. Does each team have their own kicker, or do you have two kickers that you use for all your teams?

my fourth goal, that was specifically aimed at why I don’t use the TTQB and kicking figures

I don't use the TTQB for the same reason. 😃👍 I believe Passing Sticks are a much better option, but I use dice. 🎲🎲  Receivers make such improbable catches (Lynn Swann's Kangaroo catch and Levitating Leap in Super Bowl X; David Tyree's Helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII; and the Immaculate Reception just to name a few) that dice seems to be the only way to capture the spontaneity and thrill. At least for me. 😃👍 Dice also captures that "When you're hot — you're hot; and when you're not — you're not," roller coaster ride that QBs experience.

Once again, Thanks for posting your game.

  6. Hi Coach Carl. Thanks for posting the entertaining game. 😃👍 I enjoyed the previous game that you posted also. My HMEFC is composed of fantasy teams also.

I watched your AEFL Solitaire Rule Set Series, part 1, and I really like that you set four goals right from the get-go. I play solitaire and I set goals for my rule set also.

The first goal of easy set up intrigued me. I believe you said the offense always sets up in the middle of the field and you use the same offensive formation for each snap. The decision to run or pass is left up to a roll of the dice. For your next custom field cover you should have one hash mark right down the middle. That would make set up very easy.

I'm the other side of the coin when it comes to your first goal. I use the hashmarks to spot the ball. Also, I have 5 formations with 5 offensive blocking schemes for each formation. I must admit your way is certainly easier so you've accomplished your goal. 😃👍

I'm curious about your experiences that led to your fourth goal, that is, your skill level is a non-factor. It seems to me that in solitaire both teams are the beneficiaries of your skills. Why would one team have an advantage? 🤔

  7. The Angels of Avalon just beat the Welsh Dragons 56 to 48 and all my teams have now played three games.

My mind turns to the question: Who are the best players at their position?

I have different criteria for different positions. For example, offensive / defensive linemen must be able to push 30 grams at least 3 yards; wide receivers and tight ends must be able to slide away from defenders in less than 2 seconds; and tailbacks must run the Power Sweep consistently.

The Power Sweep, or if you will, the Packer Sweep, or Lombardi Sweep is legendary "...in the 1960s, when the team won five National Football League (NFL) Championships, as well as the first two Super Bowls. Lombardi used the play as the foundation on which the rest of the team's offensive game plan was built. The dominance of the play, as well as the sustained success of Lombardi's teams in the 1960s, solidified the Packers sweep's reputation as one of the most famous football plays in history."

In previous posts I've described the gaudy success of halfback #15 running the Power Sweep. When #15 is 'in the groove' I doubt any of my little plastic peeps runs it better.

Consistency is the problem for #15 and that's the reason his Draft Stock is tumbling. He started the game against the Angels of Avalon with a 21-yard touchdown run and on the next series a 31-yard touchdown run. Welsh Dragon's picked up #15 from the practice squad and #15 looked like the tailback who rushed for 322 yards and 5 touchdowns when he played for the Metallians. However, the next time #15 ran the power sweep the Angels of Avalon hit him for a seven-yard loss. Then again for a ten-yard loss in the 4th Quarter.

Angels of Avalon tailback #37 doesn't have the gaudy numbers that #15 has accumulated, but the Angels of Avalon are undefeated and the #1 ranked team in the playoffs. In the game against the Welsh Dragons HB #37 had 79 yards on 5 carries and 1 touchdown. Against the Baja Blast, #37 had 13 carries for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the very first game of the season #37 tore up the Javelins for 97 yards on 6 carries and 1 touchdown. That's definitely enough to put #37 in the top third of the First Round of the Draft. If the Angels of Avalon win the Draft Tournament he could be the #1 draft choice.

  8. "Sometimes you’ll hear commentators say that Patrick Mahomes looks smoother on the field than everyone else. And this is true. But it’s not because Mahomes is calmer than everyone else or having more fun.

It’s because the biomechanical laws that bind other quarterbacks do not apply to Patrick Mahomes. He doesn’t need his feet set to throw deep balls. He doesn’t need a balanced lower half. He doesn’t even really need proper kinematic sequencing in order to throw a good ball..

That’s because Mahomes is able to produce incredible amounts of torque just with his hips and upper body. The reason, according to Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes’ trainer, is because of Mahomes’ unique body type.

“He has the most athletic spine I’ve ever seen.”

Spine strength and flexibility allow Mahomes to make up for the ground force lost by not having a solid base. And not needing a solid base opens up Mahomes’ game to more creativity than we’re used to seeing at the quarterback position. It allows him to throw balls downfield from body positions that would be impossible for other quarterbacks.

When you couple this bizarre spinal flexibility with insane arm strength and preternatural touch, you get the baffling acrobatics and improvisation that Mahomes displays every Sunday."  The Bullwark, "This Is How Patrick Mahomes Works His Magic: His mechanics are different from everyone else in the league." DAVID KAGAN FEB 10, 2023

All the QBs in the Heavy Metal Electric Football Consortium have Mahomes-ability. Supple spine. Incredible arm strength. Preternatural touch. The only way I know to represent that magic in electric football is with dice.

    • Play is stopped.
    • The Offense rolls a D10.
    • The Defense rolls a D6.
    • If the D10 is the larger number then the pass is complete.
    • If the D6 is the larger number then the pass is incomplete.
    • Ties are interceptions.
    • You may throw a pass to an eligible player that is touching a defensive player.

  9. I thought the coaches who use pressure sticks would be all over this Poll.  🤔

I found this GIF of Patrick Mahomes throwing while falling down. How do you duplicate that?

    <div class="tenor-gif-embed" data-postid="24653836" data-share-method="host" data-aspect-ratio="1.77778" data-width="100%"><a href="https://tenor.com/view/patrick-star-patrick-mahomes-mahomes-chiefs-chiefs-bucs-superbowl-gif-24653836">Patrick Star Patrick Mahomes GIF</a>from <a href="https://tenor.com/search/patrick+star-gifs">Patrick Star GIFs</a></div> <script type="text/javascript" async src="https://tenor.com/embed.js"></script>

If you watch enough Patrick Mahomes' clips you see that he jumps and while in the air he squares his hips. This allows Mahomes to throw very accurately. The crazy thing is that Patrick Mahomes can still throw 65 yards down field. Incredible arm strength.

  10. Some bases are money in the bank. 💵🏦💰 The following Pink Panther players were offered contracts to start for the Meteor Storm against the Angels of Avalon in the Final Four Playoff Game.

    Pink Panther's #12 Quarterback  ➡️  Meteor #12 Quarterback

    Pink Panther's #16 Quarterback  ➡️  Meteor #16 Quarterback

Pink Panther's #66 Guard / Defensive End  ➡️  Meteor #65 Left Guard / Nose Tackle

Pink Panther's #11 Weak Side Corner  ➡️  Meteor #18 Nickel Back

Pink Panther's #55 Strong Side Corner  ➡️  Meteor #71 Left Tackle

Pink Panther's #99 Tight End  ➡️  Meteor #99 Tight End

Pink Panther's #81 Wide Receiver / Kick Returns  ➡️  Meteor #81 Tight End / Kick Returns

    Pink Panther's #49 Tailback  ➡️  Meteor Tailback #49

    Pink Panther's #26 Tailback  ➡️  Meteor Tailback #26

    Pink Panther's #34 Fullback  ➡️  Meteor Fullback #43

Meteor Storm retained 14 of their original 23 players.

184 bases started this Draft Tournament. Now only 92 bases remain. These 10 players are potential First Round Draft Choices.

The eliminated 92 bases are watching from their couches at home. 🛋️ RIP

I don’t get the Madden reference.

It's kind of like Fantasy Football. The author is complaining that the software created by EA Sports (Electronic Arts) allows the QB to do things that real, breathing QBs probably can't do and the software does it consistently. To which I reply, 'Duh. That's why it's called 'Fantasy.'

  12. Just saw this on a Forum called, Welcome to Muthead, your Madden NFL 24 Ultimate Team Database and MUT 24 Team Builder

"What is up with these back foot cross body under pressure dots?

Seriously, I have Kearse and Bruce Smith screaming in my opponents face and he throws off his back foot across his body and somehow gets a completion to his smothered receiver. EVERY TIME! I know theres a lot of stupid crap that goes on in this game, but that doesn't make any sense at all. I can never throw like that, yet these people are doing every single down.'

Enjoy the stupid crap, it's part of the Journey.   T43.   🏈♾️

  13. Here is a quote from a Tennessee Titan's forum about QB Marcus Mariota and throwing off the backfoot.

"This is the kind of stuff I find funny because Mariota does it several times and now all of the sudden Mariota throws off his Backfoot.
In game situation especially when you don't have a good line more then half the time you probably are not going to be able to have the time for that beautiful 5-7 step drop and plant your foot then step in to your throw transferring your weight forward with your hips squared while Diagnosing the defense and you have the pressure coming within seconds. Lol This is  the NFL and that's not realistic. You will see every QB in the NFL every year several times a year throwing off his Backfoot with not the best release because it's the NFL. Sometimes you just have to get the ball out because the blitz is coming. Sometimes your window in the  secondary is going to be so small you have to get that ball out then. We have no way of knowing because we are not under center."

Here is a video of Pink Panther QB #12 rolling out to his left. The video stops and QB #12 is facing an all out blitz.

I always let the play run until the defenders actually touch the QB because — in my experience — NFL QBs do most of their throwing off the backfoot.

Do you make allowances for throwing off the backfoot?

  14. I didn't see any evidence that Meteor #5 was touched by a Pink Panther before he started to teeter like Artie Johnson on Laugh-In so I stood #5 up, pointed him at the goal line and let him run.

  15. When a ball carrier falls over there are two things a coach can do. 1. Call the play dead, or, 2. Stand up the ball carrier and let him keep running.

Here's an example from my last game between the Pink Panthers and the Meteor. Meteor #5 is the ball carrier.

In my mind I know the tip-over is caused by vibrations coming together to increase the amplitude. However, it's just as easy to pretend the little plastic peep stubbed his toe and fell down.

    What's your rule?

  16. The final score was Meteor Storm 57 and Pink Panther's 54. Both teams rushed for over 600 yards (Meteor: 699; Panther's: 627) and the kick returners of the Meteor tilted the game in the Meteor favor. Meteor kick returner/wide receiver #5 had two kick returns for touchdowns and finished the game with 249 kick return yards and recovered the second Panther onside kick.

    2024ExpansionDraft.thumb.png.2bc002170c0eb64fd8a88d281457a4de.png

So, the Final Four are set. Before the Angels of Avalon, Baja Blast, Meteor Storm, and Welsh Dragons play there will be an interim game between the Angels of Avalon and the Welsh Dragons. Both teams are undefeated. Neither team has played in 4 weeks and I need to give my brain a refresher course before the Playoffs begin.

I always show the offensive highlights and today I thought I'd show a few defensive highlights. In Touch Tackling the defender touches the ball carrier and the play stops. Not so in Stop-Forward-Progress Tackling. Initial contact is just the beginning. I've named the different types of Stop-Forward-Progress tackles as the T-Bone, the Merry-Go-Round, the Broadside, the Friendly-Fire, the Front End Realignment, and the Clog-up-the-Drain tackle.

Regardless of the type of tackle there are always a gang of defenders around the ball carrier. Gang Tackling is the most important reason I use Two-Deep Stacking on defense. Open Field Tackles like the one in the final clip are way-cool but they rarely happen.

    Too awesome.

I don't consider myself misanthropic any more than I consider Henry David Thoreau, or Jean Jacques Rousseau misanthropic. Working or playing alone isn't lonely for me. Never has been. Thoreau wrote in Walden, the chapter on Solitude, "I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude. We are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers."

Retirement has given me the gift of solitude and I am grateful.

  19. The year is 1972. The Dolphins complete a perfect season. Now you can own a piece of 1972. Just $229.50 and for an additional $50. you can buy water slide numbers and name plates for the back of their jerseys. Re-live the excitement of Larry Csonka barreling up the middle, Mercury Morris taking the pitch outside, and Manny Fernandez sacking opposing quarterbacks. These 1972 hand-painted* Dolphins are rare** so don't wait too long to purchase your piece of football history.

Any ideas on how to heat the pliers?

That ITZ formula 37 plastic is so soft you may not need a hot plate or coffee warmer. ♨️

A cigarette lighter may be the cheapest way to heat the pliers.

You may already have a blow drier in your bathroom and that will certainly be hot enough.

My hot water heater is set for 120 degrees or you could boil water on the stove.

Heat causes the molecular structure of the prong to easily change from the original shape of the mold to the new shape of the pliers. In theory heat allows the long side of the curve to stretch and the short side of the curve to compress and then the new molecular structure 🌙  will be what the plastic remembers.
