  1. Hi. If you've seen some of the Tudor Electric Football boxes from the Sixties then you've seen seen the claim, "Run Real Traps," like in this picture.

    image.png.4416ae66adea7ef5a53e9dd5622512c2.png

The Trap isn't as pervasive in the NFL as the Power Sweep, but if you've watched Coach Belichick and the Patriots then you've seen the Trap (especially in a snowy playoff game against the Raiders 🥲) The idea is for the offensive line to pretend they're pass blocking and then handoff to a Half Back who is also pretending to pass block.

Attached is a video of how I run the Draw.

The left and right Tight Ends and the left side Tackle have bases on backwards. When the wave generator is turned on these three players retreat and pretend to pass block. 🤔

The Fullback is on the left side and the Half Back is on the right side of the QB. The Halfback is replaced with a magnetic marker so that the Half Back doesn't move when the wave generator is turned on (He's pretending to block 🤔)

When the wave generator is turned on the QB drops back. When the QB is even with the Half Back the wave generator is turned off. The magnetic marker is removed and the Half Back is positioned in the same place. The QB hands off to the Half Back. The coach aims the Half Back. The wave generator is turned on.

How do you set up and run a trap? T43

  2. Hi. I noticed that Coach Shawn and the National Electric Football Game Museum are painting new teams. Is it something in the air? Or a football withdrawal symptom?

And I just finished painting a new team. My Diamond Dawgs are going into retirement and the Jackson Jackalopes have started selling tickets. Colors are lavender, copper, and black. They're riding on ITZ Blitz bases. Can't wait for the new season to begin. T43 🍺

Memphis Maniax and 1995 CFL Memphis Mad Dogs

Will the Maniax and Mad Dogs have white jersey numbers? I think both teams could work with KC's Away red numbers with yellow outlines. Of course, KC's Home white with yellow trim could work well. Then again, just yellow numbers would be awesome also.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide. Thanks! T43🍺

  4. Hey Coach Shawn, you are a genuine Smallville Football officionado. I'm impressed! 🏈📚

I think the jersey colors (dark red w/ yellow and black trim) are awesome. I believe a whole team of Smallville Crows will fly. 😉

There was a part of me that wanted to order 1 of each but there is the rational side who thinks that might be a bit of personal overkill at this point.

Hi. Order at least 1 of each. That's not your rational side talking to you. I usually order my bases three bags at a time. Why do I do that?🤔 After several decades of buying bases the Law of Diminishing Returns has set in.

📈The law of diminishing returns is an economic principle stating that as investment in a particular area increases, the rate of profit from that investment, after a certain point, cannot continue to increase if other variables remain at a constant.📉

I figure I've had good fortune if one base out of twelve bases makes a team.

    Enjoy the Journey. T43 🍺

  6. Hi. The Bay Area Electric Football League 2019 Rules Manual has some interesting rules that touch on throwing the ball away.

"If a stationary quarterback falls down, forward progress is marked at forward part of the base. At that point, you can throw the ball to an eligible receiver, throw the ball away, or use a scramble if one is available to continue the play. Otherwise the QB is down on the spot.

A fallen QB may still throw a forward pass as long as no contact has been made by a defender to the QB’s base or body which would result in a sack.

The quarterback may drop back no farther than 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. If his base completely exceeds the 20-yard distance from the line of scrimmage, it is considered a coverage sack and the quarterback may not throw a pass. He is considered down at that point beyond 20 yards. The sack yardage cannot exceed 20 yards under these circumstances.

Each coach is allowed two (2) quarterback scrambles per half...The play develops as a pass play, and when the board is stopped, the twenty- second clock is started. If the offensive coach announces scramble, the twenty-second clock stops.

At this time, the defensive coach adjusts all unengaged defensive players. The offensive coach can now re-adjust the quarterback in any direction he desires... The board is turned on and develops as a normal pass play. If the board is stopped again to pass, the twenty-second clock is turned back on and the passer only has the remaining amount of time to complete the pass. If time expires before the ball is thrown, he is considered sacked at that point.

If the QB decides to run the ball for a forward gain the switch is handed over to the defensive coach to continue the play..."

Whenever you see ellipses it means I've deleted sentences.

I use the 20-yard drop back limit and a coverage sack cannot exceed 17 yards. A QB can either pass, or run, but cannot throw the ball away.

    Enjoy the Journey. T43 🍺

  7. Hi Greg. The red prongs do well because the front prongs are adjustable. The red prong bases are naturally fast and the addition of 2 grams of weight makes them bulldozers. The Red Prongs have one won Fruit Bowl (my equivalent of the Super Bowl).

The steel bases only have two prongs (front and back) and the prongs are wide and not adjustable. The steel bases have never won a post-season game in my league. Yet, I would never abandon the steel bases to the dumpster because some day I might find a steel base on eBay that deserves the Franchise tag. 😃

    Enjoy the journey. T43

  8. To everyone in the Forum,

I watched this video and my heart just broke when I thought about Vinnie attempting to pass with the triple-threat QB. It further disturbs me that electric football leagues continues to advocate for the triple threat QB.

My friends and I stopped using the triple threat QB in high school. I use dice to determine completions, interceptions, and incompletions.

The Tudor webpage offers Passing Sticks as an alternative to the triple-threat QB.

I've read about leagues that use cards instead of the triple-threat QB.

I can't speak for Vinnie, and I wasn't at the tournament, but it seems any of these passing options might have made the APEX tournament a more enjoyable experience.

  9. Some individuals have so much moral and intellectual fortitude. Vinnie Stone is at 4th and 99 yards to go and he's still dropping back to pass. He's scrambling and keeping his eyes down field. Vinnie simply can't be sacked by anything life throws at him. Let it rip, Vinnie.

    Excellent story.

So, all those different teams with different bases play in your league?

Yes, those seven historical teams are my core. They are my favorites. Then, I have sixteen Tudor teams and five ITZ teams that I use when I have a themed Double Elimination Tournament. T43

Great point.   This cannot be understated.   Try a base on multiple figure types before risking further tweeking that could destroy a base.

I have even had bases run differently for figures with the same pose.

    Absolutely!

I see that Curt “shuffles bases”, though I’m not sure what that means.

And, Terry seems to build his teams around certain types of bases.

Hi Coach Greg and Coach Shawn

When Tudor went out of business, 😔 and before Miggle started producing bases, 😍 I use to remove all the bases and put them in a barrel. Then I'd blind draw bases for each team. I called this shuffling process my draft. I'm not sure what Curt means.

I do like creating teams by base type.

My Oughtin' Otters ride on Tudor Aqua single-clip bases. The book The Unforgettable Buzz: the history of electric football and Tudor, describe the Aqua single-clips as  "(T)he No. 620 has some of the most notable firsts of all time. Next, these players were sitting on Tudor’s aqua color bases, which at various times in Electric Football history have been viewed as “prized” finds, due to the speed and strength they show on the vibrating gridiron."

The Aqua Single Clips are strong and fast and I have collected 60 bases. However, TTC bases are generally stronger but not as faster.

My Red Rhinos ride on Red Prong TTC. Once again, the TTC bases are stronger and more consistent. I wrote about this in a previous post.

My Thunderbirds ride on Tudor's Green Ghosts. These are TTC and Rookie bases and I've found them to be strong, straight, and consistent right out of the bag. I believe Tudor has stopped producing Green Ghosts.

My Suncats ride on Playtime's butterscotch bases and once again I've found them to be strong, straight, and consistent right out of the bag. I'm eager to find out how the bases perform against Coach Shawn's ITZ bases.

My Luna Bears ride on Tudor's purple convention bases with black dials. I believe Tudor has stopped producing black dials.

My Iron Horse team rides on the steel bases Tudor created for their very first game in 1949.

My other teams are subject to the Necromonger Double Elimination Tournament. I posted my bracket recently.

Seven of my teams represent a history of Tudor bases. I guess the natural question is, how do those old bases successively compete against 21st century bases?

First, I increased the weight for all of my teams. Speed times weight = momentum. The faster Aqua Single-clips and Red Prongs are now very, very strong.

Second, I adopted the Stop Forward Progress tackling. In the movie, Remember the Titans Coach Boone (Denzel Washington) is describing his offense. “I run six plays, split veer,” he says, “It’s like Novacaine. Just give it time, it always works.”

     Enjoy the journey. Cheers! 🍺
