Denver Broncos at New Orleans Saints

This is the Saints 4th straight trip to the NFC Championship Game and the 8th in their history. Amazingly they lost the previous 7. This is also a rematch of last year's classic double overtime Championship Game that the Broncos eaked out at Mile High Stadium last season. The defending Superbowl Champion Broncos got first possession. Under heavy pressure, QB Craig Morton throws a pass to TE Riley Odoms. The pass bounces off his chest and into the hands of Saints linebacker Reggie Mathis who returns the ball 12 yards setting up the Saint offense. The Saint's offense takes over and finds that it is tough sledding against the well-prepared Bronco defense. A 10 play drive ends with two straight sacks (one by DE Lyle Alzado and the other by LB Tom Jackson) of QB Bobby Scott for a total loss 35 yards. Saints punter Russell Erxleben crushes a 75 yard punt driving return man Steve Watson into the endzone. He only manages to get to the 23 yard line. After 2 straight 11 yard scrambles, Morton overthrows a wide open Steve Watson as the scoreless first half comes to an end.
