ARTICLE WRITTEN BY: LEVI VICK.
December 2, 2020. Los Angeles, California. Our John Madden of Long Island electric football is a huge Raiders fan himself.  Slawson's Corner's Andrew Slawson, will be inducted into the Long Island Sports Hall of Fame in May for his astonishing work covering high school football and wrestling for a major newspaper. Slawson has been in the middle of some incredible exchanges in this league for calling it the way he sees it when it comes to games and coaching.

The New York Jets have been a brazen team in the electric football league this season. They have some characteristics that resemble the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC. As you know by now, Seattle just upset the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in the NFC wild card game. The Jets have a similar undertaking, but they have to stop LaDainian Tomlinson who has been one of the most explosive runners in the league. He was the number one offensive player back in the LIEFL-AFC last year, winning AFC MVP honors. Today, we expect the Chargers to unleash that high-octane offense in their quest to win an LIEFL-Super Bowl. They do have a legitimate shot at it, considering the Rams lost yesterday.

The goal for the New York Jets today will be to match the intensity of the Chargers. If they can find a way to stop, or slow down the running game of Los Angeles and their offensive line filled with studs, this could be a close game. New York Coach Joe Pizz against Los Angeles coach,  Ed Viggs is always a great matchup!

GAME TIME:
First Quarter Action:
1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.pngWow! Out of nowhere on the opening kickoff, Jets defensive back Bruce Harper slashed into LaDainian Tomlinson at the 36-yard line and Tomlinson is slow to get up after being nailed! That was a statement regarding intensity. It's like these players talk to us! The Charges front line is a star-studded with All-Pro's Ernie Ladd, Earl Faison, and Booker Brown and the Jets feature Wesley Walker, Winston Hill who will start in the Pro-Bowl, and Jamal Adams as their swaggering All-Stars!

On first town LT ran around the left side of the Jets line for a 54-yard first down to the Jets 10-yard line and Coach Pizz will have to make some adjustments to stop Tomlinson. On that last play Jets lineman Winston Hill, ran right through the line for the Jets. Hill has been a tremendous leader, but Tomlinson ran around the outside again, scoring the game's first touchdown from 10 yards away with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter to make the score 7-0, Los Angeles!

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngWesley Walker returned the ball 42 yards and was hit head-on by Chargers defensive tackle Booker Brown, setting up the first down for the Jets on their first possession of the game. Jets running back Le'Veon Bell hopes to earn some respect today as do the Jets with their offensive line as Bell ran for 25-yards on first down, slashing through the right side with great blocking by Marty Lyons! What a tremendous play! Coach Pizz seems to have a game plan! Bell has been very reliable this season for the Jets as coach Viggs makes a few defensive adjustments for Los Angeles, switching Booker Brown up to face Marty Lyons. Lyons should have made All-Pro, but the coaches didn't see him as a dominating player.

On the Jets  next run, Los Angeles delivered a five-yard loss to the Jets, with the battle in the trenches about even so far. What a play! On third down Le'Veon Bell stood still for a minute and then rushed out of his post to score on a 38-yard touchdown by quarterback Sam Darnell as the Jets tied the score 7-7, with just 2:33 left to go in the first quarter! Both teams let the clock wind down to the two-minute warning. So far, these Jets have proven to be a worthy opponent for the Chargers in a fast paced, action packed game.

And on the following kick return, Tomlinson was hit hard by LIEFL-All Pro's Jamal Adams and Winston Hill at the 47 yard line!  Coach Viggs mentioned that he was going to test Kellen Winslow against the Jets today.  Adams and Hill have turned things around for New York, and if you look at the matchups on paper, that inside line game is a really important part of this success for the both the Chargers and the Jets. On first down for Los Angeles, Tomlinson ran for 35 yards to the Jets 18-yard line, as he is brought down by Winston Hill again! What a play as the first quarter comes to a close!

Second quarter action
1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.png Tomlinson on first down Tomlinson ran for another 14 yards bringing the ball to the 4-yard line of the Jets and on the following play he exploded into the end zone to make the score 14-7, with 13:08 remaining in the half! That offensive line just shows how powerful they are and the Jets are playing hard against them

"Respectfully, we feel that All-Pro in the Long Island Electric Football League to us means that that player is superior and that their play performance is without a shadow of a doubt stellar in every way, offensive blocking, defensive dominance, tested, worthy of the definition of All-Pro, and that they will put up the fierce this battle, when compared to their rivals! They don't always have to win the battle, but they have to be in the battle! That's how serious we take the All-Pro award in the league. Like most excellent leagues, we don't just hand it out the award. That respect has to be earned through an acknowledgement system through recognition and respect by the other coaches in the league," said Professor and LIEFL Commissioner, Billy O'Connell.

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngAfter Wesley Walker's 44-yard kick return, the Jets got turned back on two plays by the Chargers defense, and the Jets are now at their own 30-yard line and forced to pass with 7:55 remaining in the half. The Jets found themselves in big trouble and the Chargers defended against the past and as a result the Jets have to punt the football.

1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.pngCoach Viggs decided to put the ball in the hands of Kellen Winslow as Los Angeles breaks out the weapons! Winslow torches the Jets with a spectacular play, running it back 100 yards into the end zone to give the Chargers the runaway lead 21-7, with 4:38 remaining in the half! What a run by Winslow! The Chargers are bringing all the Jets can handle! Coach Viggs is playing a flawless game!

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngWesley Walker returned the next kick return 45 yards and the Jets called that first time out of the half with 2:51 left to go in the half. And on the Jets next play, on a poor pass by quarterback Sam Darnell, he threw an interception to Kellen Winslow at the 45-yard line and Winslow blazed into the end zone for a touchdown in a huge turn of events, making the score 28-7, Los Angeles expands the lead, with 2:12 left in the half in this AFC Wild Card Game! You can't make mistakes like that against coach Viggs as we come to the two minute warning! The Jets have to reboot and make this a game. Coach Pizz tried to go for it all on that pass play. He saw a wide open Bruce Harper, but it was too far of a pass to make and the he paid dearly for the risk as Kellen Winslow was right in the path of the pass, coming in the opposite direction. To our knowledge, we don't ever recall an interception being brought back for a touchdown in this league, so that is a first!

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.png Jets 7

It sure does look like the Jets are in big trouble here as New York calls another time out, and Coach Pizz was deciding whether to aim for a field goal, or pass. The Jets have done very little offensively, and mistakes are something you cannot make against the Chargers. This isn't a team that opponents will catch up to, especially with a 21 point lead. On the Jets third down, Sam Darnell connected with Wesley Walker on first down for a 25-yard pickup to the Chargers 45-yard line as the Jets called their last time out of the half trailing 28-7.  With time running out New York kicked a field goal from 25 yards away to make the score 28-10, with the Chargers in the lead with seconds remaining in the half.

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.png Jets 10

The Chargers changed the game plan a little bit and gave Kellen Winslow the ball once again, and he returned the ball 65 yards as the first half came to a close!

Third Quarter Action
JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.png To start the third quarter, Wesley Walker stormed back with a 47 yard run. The Jets confidence turned, down 28-10, they just didn't play like a team being beaten.  They played with a chip on their shoulder, like the kid who stands up to the tough guy, these New York Jets were not backing down. They are building on something nice here in New York. On a second down run, Kellen Winslow came out of nowhere to make a hard tackle on the Le'Veon Bell at the 30 yard line, for another eight-yard loss back to the Jets 30-yard line. The Jets are in trouble again. Coach Viggs and his Los Angeles Chargers if they win this game, will play against any Indianapolis in the "battle of the Titans," and it will be hard to watch either of these teams lose. Sam Darnell was forced to pass the ball away on third down, and again, the Jets had to punt the football.

1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.pngThe Chargers have been saving the speed and strength of Kellen Winslow for games like this. Two seasons ago he was the top receiver in the league, but with Tomlinson in the backfield and the Chargers offensive line doing their job, Los Angeles hasn't had a need to pass. Coach Viggs decided to get these Winslow and Alsworth involved in the game if he could to make a three-prong attack blow up the scoreboard, but as you can see, two was enough! Winslow returned the football 60 yards on the punt as the Chargers show their superiority in the league!

Tomlinson was not finished being the story today, and he was only too happy to share it with his teammate Winslow, as Tomlinson rans in a 40 yard touchdown into the end zone on the very next play to make this score 35-10 Los Angeles, with 7:04 left to go in the third quarter! What a dominant performance as Los Angeles gives the Jets a 1-2-3 punch! And we haven't even seen Lance Alsworth, who is also a fiery player, make any plays yet.

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngOn the ensuing kick return Wesley Walker blazed 65 yards downfield and and All-Pro Winston Hill was knocked off his feet along with Bruce Harper, for his earlier hit on Tomlinson to start the game. The Chargers were dishing out the punishment now. But on the next two plays, the Jets offense behind Winston Hill was not going to quit as Bell ran for a 15-yard first down, and then another first down to the 10-yard line as the two-minute warning sounded off to signal the near end of the third quarter.
art8.thumb.jpg.c6ca60901b916d580e45002ec17af2bc.jpg
This has not been a boring football game regardless of the score. The players have been exciting and the Jets really have played well, they've just made mistakes and mental errors, but these Jets will be back next year and they will make some minor changes to be fierce competitors, which is the goal of every LIEFL team. They're playing against one of the best teams in the Long Island Electric Football League in Los Angeles. In the past the Chargers felt cheated out of a chance to go to the Super Bowl. Last year when they lost 49-48 in the AFC Divisional Championship Game to the Buffalo Bills, it set off a motivation for coach Ed Viggs to take revenge out on the league because he believes in these Chargers and he feels they are the best team in the AFC to compete with the dominant NFC in a Super Bowl. The NFC is a good 14 teams strong, but the AFC is a good 12 teams strong.  There were a good 25 teams still alive and competing for a playoff slot up until week 6 in the season.

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.png On first down Bell lost 11 yards as the left side of the Jets line caved in with the clock running and 56 seconds left to go in the third quarter, and on a beautiful play well executed by the Jets offense, Bell ran around the left side into the end zone for a touchdown to make the score 35-17! The third quarter came to a close with the Chargers in the lead, 35-17!

Fourth Quarter Action
1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.png The Los Angeles Chargers were not finished yet! To open the fourth quarter, Kellen Winslow exploded for his second hundred yard kick return of the game into the end zone! Like a lightning bolt, the Chargers ran up the lead 42-17, on a spectacular run by Winslow bringing everyone to their feet! LA was a scoring machine. They rebuilt this team three years ago. They had that one disappointing thing season in 2016, but man did they come back with a vengeance. What great work by coach Viggs!

The Chargers still had the lead with 12:45 remaining in the game as we watched the Jets play for pride! New York has turned their second half into a competition as they bring the excitement back to New York for 2021!

What a performance by both of these teams! The game would be worth paid entry on an otherwise boring COVID-19 evening! What a performance LaDainian Tomlinson ran a 55-yard touchdown into the end zone after a 7-yard first down. The Chargers take the lead 49-24 with 7:45 remaining in the game, and it has been an exciting one regardless of the score!

Coach Billy OC was on hand watching and scouting the Chargers, and everybody knows that that game between Indianapolis and Los Angeles if they make it, is going to be like the Super Bowl for the AFC Divisional Championship Game.

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngWesley Walker is having his best game of the year with a 70-yard return and Kellen Winslow chased him down and made the tackle. Winslow has been absolutely unbelievable as the clock ran down to 6:43 remaining in the game with both of these teams putting on a show. The Jets could overtake the AFC East next year with the talent they have.

And on first down the Jets were turned back by the Chargers defense to the 40-yard line, and on second down Chargers linebacker, Louie Kelcher made a big hit on Le'Veon Bell, bringing up third down with 3:43 remaining in the game! And on third down, the Los Angeles defense came up big once again, stopping the Jets on third down, with nobody to pass to except for Le'Veon Bell, who was stopped in his tracks by LA linebacker, Junior Seau! And the Jets kicked another field goal to make the score 49-27 with the two-minute warning sounding off.

On the ensuing kick return Kellen Winslow ran back 54 yards, giving Tomlinson a chance to score his fifth touchdown of the game. The Jets seemed to have gotten better throughout the game, and their offense picked it up and worked on all cylinders for the last two quarters of football, but looks like Coach Pizz has learned a lot. And the Jets held off Tomlinson at the 45-yard line, at the line of scrimmage and the Chargers called their last time out of the game with one minute remaining. Tomlinson then ran for another first down of 14 yards, with 36 seconds left to go in the game!

And on the next attempt, the Chargers were pushed back on a penalty for no quarterback? They're forced to kick a 40 yard field goal after losing the down and ten yards to make the score 52-27!

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngThe Jets called a time out with 14 seconds remaining in the game. The Tournament of Champions in the 2020 season has been filled with great competition!  It has been one of the most exciting seasons to remember as the game comes to the close. On the last play of the game, Wesley Walker returned the football 35 yards, and the Los Angeles Chargers win the game 52-27, advancing them to the AFC Divisional Championship Game to play the Indianapolis Colts (7-1).

What a game that's going to be, but what a terrific game played by the Jets!

It was a game that produce more than 1400 yards in offense, 10 touchdowns, and 18 tackles. It was a stellar performance by the Los Angeles Chargers (7-1), and Ladanian Tomlinson who rushed for 233 yards with four touchdowns!  Kellen Winslow had 478 yards with two 100 yard kick returns for touchdowns, and Wesley Walker exploded for 503 yards with a 100 yard touchdown run! Coach Viggs said after the game, "That was a heck of a football game by coach Pizzenti, (as he calls Pizz), and as for the rest of the league, my Chargers will be ready for anybody! We want to take on the best opposition that there is, and next week's game against Indianapolis should be a terrific game against Billy O'C."

1273425229_CHARGERSTD.png.5ff87773542cbeb53faf538dcf4e62ae.png Chargers 28

JETSTD.png.388d00112afe2e6b34b970239a7f0d1e.pngThis game was far from over as we watch back to back 100 yard touchdowns with Jets star Wesley Walker running into the end zone with blazing speed to make the score 42-24, WOW!
