Went to paint some Vikings the other night and the next day the paint looked like an eddshell on the figure.  It is Tudor paint albeit a bit old, but the paint looks and felt good when applied, anyone with thoughts on why this happened.

Was the purple wet when you applied the white?

If yes then I would guess that is the problem. If no, then I would guess the white paint was too thin. A vigorous shaking may help the white paint hold its shape.

Isn't there some kind of "coating" issue with the new figures right out of the package? Maybe an oily residue or something with that plastic? I remember someone stating that they should be treated in some way before painting (with acrylics, that is--enamel has no problems)? Perhaps a primer?

Molding process sometimes leaves oily residue. Wash in Dawn to remove oily residue and/or spray with primer.

Thanks! I knew it was something like that. I just happen to have Dawn. It's my favorite. I've been washing those oil-soaked baby ducks for years, so now I can toss my EF dudes in there. Hope the ducklings don't swallow them! 🙂
