The #6 seed Giant travel to Atlanta to that on the #1 seed Falcons.  This could set up a lot like the Browns and Jags.  The Falcons have mostly relied on a strong passing game with TE Kyle Pitts and WRs Drake London and Cordarelle Patterson (who also gets rushes out of the backfield).

As noted before the Giants/Eagles game, the Giants are led by Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones on the ground.

It could be another battle of explosion vs. churning out yards.

The Giants go 3 & out on their opening possession.  The Falcons go on an 8 play drive, mostly in the air.  But Bijon Robinson somehow gets past the Giants DL for a 21 yard TD.

Falcons 7-0

After a big kickoff return by Isaiah Hodgins, it takes the Giants only 3 plays to get in the endzone. Barkley follows a block by #25 and scores from 7 yards out

Falcon 7 Giants 7

Atlanta recovers a fumble, but can’t take advantage. New York hits this long pass to Wan’dale Robinson for an 82 yard TD.  Atlanta missed a FG to end the half.

The score is 14-14 at the half.  The Falcons are letting the Giants hang around

Halftime thoughts:

The Giants have hung in this game thanks to a good OL and a huge TD pass from Daniel Jones to Wan’Dale Robinson on 3rd & 25. But, make no mistake.  The Falcons aren’t the Jaguars who lost to the Browns.  They are capable of sustaining long drives while also being explosive.  If they clean things up in the second half, they could pull away.

I had forgotten that the Falcons played the Giants in last year’s wildcard round.  The 7th seeded Falcons defeated the 2nd seed Giants in OT.  Cordarelle Patterson was used as a RB last year.  He had 2TDs and a kickoff return for a TD.

The Falcons came out of halftime with a very balanced 10 play 68 yard drive, capped off by 6 yard Cordarelle Patterson reception for a TD.

However the Giants are still hanging in there.  They start the 4th quarter with a Barkley 15yd rush for a TD to tie it back up 21-21

The Falcons can be methodical and explosive.  Here are 2 pass plays (after the catch.  You can see the Giants close quick, but there are open receivers on most plays.

Kyle Pitts takes this pass for 16 yards

Then Cordarelle Patterson takes this one for 11

8 play drive ends with a 10 yard TD pass to Tyler Allgier.

The Falcons go up 28-21

Giants are stopped inside the Falcons 10 on 4th and Goal.

The Falcons win 35-21 on a long trash time run by Bijon Robinson.

The Falcons advance to the NFC Championship where they will host the winner of the Cowboys/Lions game.

Stats to follow.
