Los Angeles Chargers LaDanian Tomlinson (21) had a huge day rushing for a record 197-yards, totaling 330 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns, to beat the division rival Kansas City Chiefs 20-14 in 5:05 OT!

August 19, 2020. Los Angeles, California. There are premiere players and coaches in leagues both solitaire and organized around the country.  The Long Island Electric Football League is completing Week #2 of their 2020 seven-game format season with some amazing competition in this 8-coach league. The league is filled with excitement!

One team who thinks for themselves in the LIEFL is the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers have been a team with a chip-on-their-shoulder for two straight seasons. Charger Coach Ed "The GOAT" Viggs, if you have been reading, already know he is not only a classy guy, but he was an excellent athlete in high school and at the college level, but he's more than that, he is smart!  When you absolutely, positively MUST have the job done, he is going to get it done nine out of ten times. This season may be the year the GOAT is back in force with LaDanian Tomlinson, the AFC Offensive MVP last season!   Whether with the Chargers, Green Bay, Washington, or San Francisco, one way or another Viggs will be there competing hard in the end!

THE GAME:
LaDanian Tomlinson had the Chargers (0-1), all amped up for their home-opener. Going into the game Tomlinson had 149 yards last week in Los Angeles' overtime loss to Cincinnati 20-14, so this week the GOAT went back to the drawing board to focus on what got them to the playoffs two straight season in this progressive LIEFL which seems to ante-up the competition every year with surprises from the LIEFL-Draft every January. Kansas City really struggled last season, but they won a tremendous Draft-pick in Tyreek Hill who set the field on fire last week with 147 yards and a hundred yard kick-return against the Texans. Hill has blazing speed and toughness and he will be an All-Pro for Coach Matt "Zoo-York" Mulqueen's Chiefs. Muqueen said, "We were awful last season, but with the Draft we got a heck of a player in Tyreek Hill.  He is a flat-out play-maker and he makes us a threat every week. You can't turn your back on a player like this. This league is swamped with great electric football players, but I am confident you will see Mr. Hill in the top three or four when all is said and done this season."

The coaching in the LIEFL is focused. Mulqueen (5-2) this season as a coach, has his teams playing terrific. His Eagles, Panthers, and Browns have been competitive, and this Chiefs team has no quit!

On the kickoff the All-Pro Tomlinson took the ball back 31 yards for the Chargers on a short kick return. This home opener is important with the challenging schedule Los Angeles has this season. It won't be an easy one for Los Angeles. Tomlinson and his line have to rise to the occasion and in just five plays, after runs of 28, 20, 6,  and 13 yards,  Tomlinson took it in for one-yard out to make the score 7-0, Chargers in the lead with 7:14 to go in the half!

The Kansas City Chiefs came storming back on a 41-yard kick return by last week's hero Tyreek Hill, who is quickly becoming the Coaches' Selection in the league as the "most popular and fastest players" in the league. While the Chiefs did not lack on special teams, the front line could not open the trenches for Chiefs star running back Priest Holmes and on his first two runs, Holmes was stuffed by the Los Angeles defense. Then on a third down rush Chargers lineman Russ Washington made a tremendous tackle on a game-breaking play that was stopped at the 48-yard line, as Washington crushed Tyreek Hill who was brought down by Washington as the first half came to a close with the score 7-0, Chargers in the lead!

The game was getting heated and both coaches had to be warned for stalling the game. Coach Mulqueen got a 5 yard penalty for not setting up completely in the 40 seconds allotted. And another new rule that delays a game is even if by accident a coach drops their player on a player from the opposing team it's a 5-yard penalty because it causes each coach to re-set. This is a brand new rule that's in effect in 2020.

This Los Angeles defense came alive and they had a relentless pursuit on Priest Holmes knowing full well what he is capable of on the field. The Chargers issued a 22-yard loss. forcing Kansas City to pass again on third down. On third down the Chiefs pulled a quarterback sneak for a 40-yard gain by Patrick Mahomes, bringing the ball down to the charger 30-yard line!  One play later Tony Gonzalez ran in a 30 yard touchdown catch from Mahomes slicing right down the middle of the field to tie the game, 7-7!

On the ensuing kickoff Tomlinson ran into a wall for 37 yards for the Chargers. After a short 5-yard run, Tomlinson brought in the BIG GUNS exploding for a 58-yard touchdown through the center of the field to put the Chargers ahead 14-7 with 4:25 left to go in the game! What a play!

With a minute left to go in the game Tony Gonzalez scored his second touchdown of the game on a tremendous 40-yard pass play leaving Tomlinson just seconds left to score as time ran out on both teams. Tomlinson was tackled hard at the 30-yard line as the game went into overtime. The Chargers won the coin toss in overtime! The momentum was with Los Angeles. We could feel the energy of the game growing and the coaches could feel the anxiety setting in as well and it's very important division rival.
On the overtime kick-return LaDanian Tomlinson ran the ball back 34-yards and after runs of 6, 10 and finally a 50-yard touchdown run the Chargers (1-1) beat the Chiefs (1-1) in overtime a the game in 5:05 of OT 20-14!  Tomlinson ended the game with big numbers.  He had 14 carries for 330 total yards, 197 of them rushing, with 3 touchdowns, two of them from 50 and 58 yards!  What a day for the best runner in the AFC last year!

The Los Angeles Chargers play the Carolina Panthers (1-1) next week in what should be a spectacular game. Mulqueen's Chiefs play the brutal defense of the Freeport-Chucker's Baltimore Ravens (2-0) next week!
