Been awhile but the last time I bought one it was $60.00 for a 30" x 60", 10 years ago. Depends on the supplier and size. Yes steel not aluminum if you want magnetic.

    Oy, steel… I knew that!

That’s what I get for posing a question late at night, short of sleep!

I don't know for sure what the thickness of the metal is that Tudor uses, but most people who build custom boards use either 24 ga or 26 ga metal. I have always used 24 ga because it seems to be more readily available from most sheet metal suppliers.

    Thank you, Coach.

If you don’t mind my asking, about how much does an appropriately sized sheet cost?

Five deep into outfitting my 75 Cardinals. Hardest part was lining up the side decals for the helmets. No mid-stripe to line it up. Still very basic, simple Uni-Form. The best uniforms are simple in their design.
The 75 Cardinals. From StLouis. Where God intended for them to be.
    Gotta love it!

    Yes!

My favorite team of all time!  I wish you nothing but the best with this project and would love to see them once you’re done!

As a boy I bought the pre-painted white jersey team back in the late 70’s.  They ran roughshod thru the neighborhood!

Recently I started getting back into the game.  That original team’s paint was slightly touched up, details like wristbands and tape were added to customize individual players, and I made decals to finish them off   They look great!  I then bought another 11 to make the defense.  Currently I’m making the red jersey versions.  They’re all painted.  Now I need to make the decals and finish them off.

Thanks WeeVikes! I did indeed enjoy it. I'm expanding my solitaire league with 4 new teams, the Bears, Lions, Chargers and Seahawks. I got 8 pre-painted generic teams (home and away for each team) from Tudor so it will mainly be detailing work, though I may change the Chargers paints from white to yellow.

Be patient and take your time.  Take breaks when you need to.  I know you’re excited to use your teams, but trust me — nothing makes a quality paint job quite like working carefully and not rushing things.  Get quality brushes of different sizes, don’t be afraid to experiment with different paints, thinning them, etc., and anything else you can think of.  Maybe experiment on plastic utensils or other disposable plastic objects to hone your technique.  You’re well on your way to being a football team painting stud!

  5. I can’t help you with the Bengals, but I’m finishing out my ‘75 Cardinals, and they look awesome!  Mine aren’t Uni-Forms, so I can’t comment on that.   I think of you made decals for the ‘73 Bengals’ uniforms they’d end up looking great.

  6. Also, if this hasn’t happened already, it always took me a couple days to get used to wearing the helmet again, so maybe be prepared for that possibility.  The weight of it threw me the first few practices, but after a bit it was like second nature.

I too was a lineman when I played, and it was great fun!  Enjoy yourself!

    Hi WV,

I'm not sure if this is 100% helpful for your original question, but I do know a lot of 3D printer craftsmen use Pixologic ZBrush, including Bryan Nutt. You may be able to find a forum or community based around Zbrush that has files, models, and/or textures they're willing to share freely. As long as you're not planning to sell them, there's also a free version of Zbrush out there if you don't already have it.

Another one is Blender, although I'm not sure if it's as popular for 3D printing, it's definitely popular in the 3D modeling world and has a great community forum; at least it did back when I was dabbling in video game coding back in 2018. 🤔 It's completely free.

Hope either of those are able to help you!

    Thank you, Paul!

Probably a question you need to ask on the Facebook Group pages. There are several people producing and selling 3d-printed figures and accessories. Whether they would be willing to share those files or not is another question?

    Awesome!  Thank you!

I don’t want to build things other people earn money from, just maybe things that in their minds are shareable.

  9. I just gained access to a 3D printer and was curious if there were any interesting and useful electric football-related files out there?  I’ve googled it and have as yet come up blank, but I figured this community would know better than anyone.

    Thank you.

  10. Great idea!

    Some possibilities:

Red Helmets & Jerseys, White Pants: Wisconsin, Alabama, Indiana, Louisville (can go with white jerseys as well)

Gold Helmets, Black/White Jerseys, gold pants: New Orleans Saints, Purdue Boilermakers (my alma mater!)  I’m not sure, but Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt may work as well

As you noted, Pittsburgh Steelers = Iowa Hawkeyes (white and black jerseys)

Purple helmets & Jerseys — Minnesota Vikings & Northwestern Wildcats

I know there are more but they’re not jumping out at me at the moment.  If I think of more I’ll post them.

  11. I’ve been working on an offense, defense, formation, spreadsheet play generator I can use when playing solitaire and I’ve included unbalanced lines as a possible option.

I also coached youth football for a long time and used them on O and prepared my teams for them on D.  I typically only shifted my OTs and referred to them as the “Super Tackle”.

  12. There is a company called Evergrern Scale Models that produces and sells styrene plastic rods, tubes, I-beams, strips, sheets, etc.  Many well stocked hobby shops carry their products.  You could always buy tubes with an inner diameter compatible with the outer diameter of the uprights, cut them to the desired length, paint them yellow, and put them in place (gluing if desired).

I’ve used their stuff a lot and really like it.
