October 10, 2024, Long Island Electric Football League. LIEFL Week #2 had some big games! With week one behind us coaches are tweaking performers and making adjustments for week two battles. The returning Super Bowl Champion Atlanta Falcons walked away with their second consecutive  victory of the season, this time on the road against the defending Philadelphia Eagles.

Gerald Riggs rushed for 107 yards on six touches and he added two more touchdowns to his League leading six touchdowns. Coach Johnny Freeport said to Eagles coach Matt Zoo York, "Like I said, revenge is the best answer". On the other end of the ball the Eagles played outstanding. Harold Carmichael touch the ball four times for 170 yards and Keith Byars rushed for another 55 yards with a 38 yard touchdown in this tight game. The Falcons will have their hands full at unbeaten Kansas City next week against Zoo again. And the Philadelphia Eagles face the unbeaten New Orleans Saints.
Obviously electric football coaches know around the world just how important it is to prepare their teams by scouting the enemy and gathering as much intel as they can to compete. After this past February's' 2024 LIEFL draft, we never know who is going to be the top performers in the following season.
So far there's been many surprises, one of them is Minnesota's Justin Jefferson, who finished #17 in NFC all-purpose yards in 2023 with 18 touches for 726 all-purpose yards in four games, with four touchdowns. That is a lot of damage. Here he is today, stepping up his game since his rookie season last year, making the Minnesota Vikings a competitive beast at (2-0)! Jefferson led the Vikings to a 14-10 shocking victory by running back 148 yards in the Vikings unexpected week one win over the fierce Giants on New York's home turf, and Jefferson is also the leading receiver in the league with 2 touches for 83-yards with two touchdowns! Coach Joey Pizz is the coach for both teams, and he turned the alternate coaching duty over to highly touted LIEFL rookie coach Rhett Garner  who took the loss in the upset! Pizz has his Vikings aiming for a division title, but the NFC North is stacked some some of the toughest LIEFL players in the game. Garner said, "I am a fast learner and I know how important every game is in the league. Failure is just not an option and I must do a better job understanding team dynamics more so before the game, not during the game, so there are no excuses. The game in this league is a much faster pace than I am used to with all the stops in the other leagues I have played in. It takes big timely adjustments.
The Purple-People-Eaters host the Texans next week in Week-#3 as they battle for their third straight victory. The last time the Vikings saw three straight wins was in 1977 when they finished in 1st place with a 13-1 record, but then lost in the playoffs to a tough Green Bay Packers team 14-2 in the first round of the playoffs.

Coach Joe "BINO's" Dolphins gave the league a realty check after going (2-0) in their first two games by beating the highly competitive Buffalo Bills 28-24, played by skilled alternate coach Rhett Garner, who stepped right into the league battlefield in a back-and-forth stunner! Dolphins star Mercury Morris rushed for 87 yards with three touchdowns including a 54 yard TD scamper, but really, it was Mark Duper who brought the storm. Super/Duper had 312 all-purpose yards including a 100 yard touchdown return on just four touches. Miami is on fire. Buffalo's OJ Simpson ran for 84 yards with three touchdowns against a tough Dolphins defense, and it sure seems like last year's  LIEFL  kick returns  third year player, Ray Brown, is back! Brown and Simpson are a dangerous tandem. Brown had  four touches for 261 yards, including a 91 yd kick return in what became an epic game! What a battle for the AFC East it will be! The New England Patriots answered the Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch with a tight 21-14 win. It was Rob Gronkowski who left his mark for the second consecutive week. Gronk added two more 100 yard touchdown returns this week for the second consecutive week as he climbs the ladder to the top in AFC with seven touches for 548 yards with four 100-yard touchdown returns! Coach Levi Vick's Patriots are hot!
The Las Vegas Raiders took on the Baltimore Ravens in a war after the Raiders defense stopped Johnny Freeport's Ravens on 3rd down with just 6 minutes left to go in the game. It was Raiders newly drafted base of the 'Assassin' Jack Tatum who came up big on defense! The Ravens folded as they couldn't stop a revived Frontline of the Raiders thru the draft. Las Vegas running back Bo Jackson touched the ball nine times, exploding for 125 yards with three rushing touchdowns, running over the Baltimore defense to give the Raiders the squeaky clean victory 24-21, in week two! The Las Vegas defense took every advantage as they emerged and made a statement in week two. Ravens All-Pro Derrick Mason had a great game, returning the ball for 225 yards with a 100 yard touchdown. He also added a 50-yard touchdown catch in the Ravens loss. Coach Johnny Freeport was furious with his team's loss. He vowed revenge after the Ravens winless start. "We'll be back, you'll see," commented Freeport.
So far coach Matt Zoo York has been nearly perfect, like he was in 2022, when his Kansas City Chiefs won LIEFL Super Bowl X V I I. Zoo has his Cleveland Browns playing an at impressive top level after the Week-#1 beating his Browns gave the the Cowboys 17-14. This week they took the war to the Jaguars by steamrolling them 17-7, in dominant defensive fashion. It's too early to tell where Cleveland is headed, but they have two hefty wins under their belt. That's big, considering it's only a seven-game season. These undefeated Cleveland Browns (2-0) take on the New York Giants (1-1) at home next week to battle for their third win, and then they go to Las Vegas to play the gritty Raiders. Then they play Cincinnati until they meet up with the tough Miami Dolphins in Week #6, with their season finale at Baltimore. The test is ahead of them. We will see if they are primed for a playoff run. Browns running back Mike Pruitt has 10 touches for 152 rushing yards with two touchdowns. The Cleveland front line is performing better than we've seen in a long time with Willie Davis, Myles Garrett and Simon Frazier anchoring the middle and Ricky Bolden at tackle.
In a monster game between coach Ed Viggs and the AFC Champion Los Angeles Chargers and the NFC runner-up Carolina Panthers coached by undefeated Matt Zoo York, LaDainian Tomlinson laid down the groundwork for a masterful 150 yards rushing with three touchdowns as the Chargers edged powerhouse Carolina Panthers 27-21 in overtime! The Chargers refuse to bow to anyone. It was a war in the trenches but Los Angeles battled until the last second of the game! Carolina was no different. They fought for every inch. Star special teams player Greg Jones Pulled off 228 yards on special teams to put the Panthers in constant excellent field position, but it wasn't enough against coach Ed Viggs. This was a pivotal game for both of these teams, but history suggests they will not quit. Talented coach Viggs handed Matt Zoo York his first loss of the season. The two have such great respect for each other.
IMG_20241004_114136322(3).thumb.jpg.d690259b48e581c4e9d518010b828616.jpgThe Detroit Lions are off to a great start. One of the best legendary historic players for the LIEFL is All-Pro Dexter Bussey. Bussey unleashed 292 all-purpose yards, breaking out with two 100-yard explosive touchdown returns, one on the last play of the game to give the Lions a dramatic win over the Tampa Bay Bucs 20-14, in a great game! Tampa Bay might be (0-2) but they are a tough and mighty football team. Buccaneers Running Back Ricky Bell has emerged in the NFC with a successful ITZ base. Bell carried the ball 11 times for 91 yards rushing, including a touchdown. This is not the same Buccaneers team that they were in 2023. In this case the ITZ base did it's job, but they are under the microscope of skeptical coaches. Tampa Bay is rebuilding their confidence, and it looks like Bell is here to stay, but will Tampa Bay arrive too late after losing their first two games?  Coach Joey Pizz said his Bucs will be in every game this season and they will be a competitive force in the NFC South. Bell sits at #2 in NFC rushing with 18 touches for 188 yards with three touchdowns, behind Gerald Riggs of the Falcons!
Boom! We can never put anything past coach Ed Viggs and his Green Bay Packers (0-1). The Pack battled the tough Indianapolis Colts (1-0) taking them into overtime and winning the game 17-14! These are truly historic teams and games as we wind down our league. Viggs struck again with great precision and decision coaching! This  was a game of execution with a tremendous battle in the trenches of two evenly matched teams who brought all their big guns to the show. Packers speedy All-Pro Sterling Sharpe lit the fire with 236 all-purpose yards along with a blazing 55 yard touchdown catch! Last year's LIEFL Player of the Year Joseph Addai finished the game with his usual stellar performance with 8 touches for 196 all-purpose yards, with one touchdown! Addai is on the radar of every team in this league.
