Ravenna Al, I'm going to make another Fire Lizards team (since I don't have one due to my original being relocated to Michigan for good cause--YOU!) These will be different along two fronts, I believe. One, I will use Haiti Repro figures (didn't I use the new 67 Big Men for your team?), and two, I will make decals for them this time using the advice you gave me. Now, IF I can still see for the painting, and IF my ham hands will allow painting, this should be a better looking team! But, if I fumble the ball on the painting, I'll be forced to outsource the work. I'd love to do it all, but I want the team to look great overall, so I won't gum up the works if I see I've lost my mojo after all the years. I haven't painted/decaled any teams since 2006, so this will be a revealing challenge when I get started.

Look a here!!!! White jersey Fire Lizards! Not even RavennaAl has these! Really happy to get this project going. And the speed! Now that I've started painting again, more work is getting done faster when I start a team. Hats off to the hog leg orange pants Broncos project that got me going again! 🙂 The ProLine 67 Big Men are shown as I'm using them for a guide to paint the Haiti Repro figs. That water bowl used to rinse out my brush turned a pretty color as I laid down the first layer of paint on the pants. That helmet logo and fancy pants stripe details were all hand-painted back in the day. No decals. This will be a challenge this time, but let's see if my decal skills can save the day. I may try to hand paint them anyway. Haven't decided that yet.

Now this proves I'm in sync with the universe! This is Hawaiian Volcano Water which I picked up in Walmart today. The perfect sponsor for the Hawaiian Fire Lizards! Amazing. Tastes great, but let's see if I don't have an eruption at any minute!  Let the marketing begin! These Fire Lizards have their act together already!

Back in action! Painting the Fire Lizards white jersey. Thanks to finding an exact match to the official Fire Lizards green I'm able to get back to work. I discovered that a 12-year-old set of Liquitex acrylic paint can help out while I still look for that elusive 100-plus acrylic paint rack that has mysteriously gone missing. Liquitex Pine Green is a spot-on match for the Fire Lizards pants! I know that is not what I used before because this paint was sealed when I opened it up. So something else was used on the original team, but this color is an exact match.

Since I still can't find my motherlode of paints, I zipped out to Hobby Lobby this morning and bought some new paint for my Fire Lizards. The show must go on! I'll do the same for each team I paint from now on, one-by-one. I will rebuild my paint arsenal bigger and better than before! Oh, and I also picked up this snappy headset with two magnifying lenses and a great light!

The special feature of the Fire Lizards' uniforms is the shimmering pearl white that makes up their white jersey and the pants of the dark jersey. I have placed a couple of figures side-by-side to show the difference of the pearl white paint vs. an unpainted white figure. Also, the neon green and neon yellow along with the neon red trim make the uniforms pop as well. So far I have hand painted the helmet logos but I hope to have some custom decals made soon. While I had the pearl white paint out, I decided to go ahead and paint another dark jersey team for the Fire Lizards, since I gave my original team to RavennaAl. Those were 67 Proline Big Men. These are all Haiti Repro 2 figures.

Another sign I'm in sink with the universe! I found my grandson's gecko right under the table I'm painting on. The gecko is posed for this rare photo with his distant relatives, the Fire Lizards. Also in the 2nd row of this photo, I suddenly discovered I put the pearl white paint on the wrong team in my haste to get my project moving along! 😞 I already had a set of Fire Lizards in the works I found in a box after I painted these all white figs. DOH! I'm thinking of using this team for the L.A. Air Scorps since they will have white pants anyway. This will then make two teams with the pearly whites in the UNREAL LEAGUE.

On my post above I said I was "in sink" with the universe! ROFL! Kind of like Elon Musk carrying around an actual sink when he sends the message "let that sink in!" Guess I need a bath after all! Should be "in sync". My bad. Moving on....I have now laid down the Testors Neon Green enamel on the Fire Lizards helmets. I've always painted just one coat using enamel paint over the years, but in this case, it looks like I'm going to have to put on a 2nd coat of the neon green enamel! And the first layer was on top of the neon green acrylic that was already there. Hmmmm. This is already a high maintenance team on the assembly line.

Time for sumpn new! After years of using these Testors white plastic paint brushes for my enamel paint jobs (along with toothpicks of course), I am now going with these new mini brushes I found in Hobby Lobby this past Sunday. They worked out great, especially with shirt stripes and socks on my Fire Lizards.

More progress with the Fire Lizards project. The 2nd coat on the pants was done and I started the 1st coat on the dark jerseys. That new Vallejo thinner works wonders with the acrylic paint!

Just put on the 1st coat of FolkArt NEON Blacklight Yellow for the shirt stripes and pants stripes. Very subtle. Takes a keen eye to see this. I'll post another closeup or two soon because I'm having a hard time seeing it myself! May have to use the enlargement option on these pics to catch it. It's a sneaky trim to say the least! LOL I like how it's almost a shadow on those pants. I may use that technique with another team. I'll also attempt some pics with a blacklight to bring out the neon trim. Do they sell miniature blacklights anywhere?

Still working on that Neon Yellow trim. It keeps disappearing on the pants. Maybe I'll have to lay down some pearl white and then go back and lay the neon yellow on top of that. It shows up fine on the shirt stripes. I can't remember what I did on my original Fire Lizards. I'll keep at it, of course, until I get the effect I want.

Apple Barrel LEMON to the rescue. For less than a buck, I get a fine color that does the trick for brining out the yellow trim on my Fire Lizzies! I'll go over the top of the Lemon with my Neon Yellow Blacklight paint for the final touch.

Apple Barrel LEMON does the trick again! Finally, the pants stripes are showing up after 3 tries with the NEON YELLOW BLACKLIGHT. Just like on the shirt stripes I'll go back and layer in the NEON trim on top of the LEMON so it will show up when the black light goes on.
