  1. I feel you Greg. I'm also a Packer fan, and it's natural to have a little extra desire for your team to succeed. As the game unfolds you get a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of both teams, and like Terry alluded to you just have to line them up and see who executes the best. Just try to be fair in the process.... not leaving your best receiver unguarded or a player intentionally set up to fail. It's best when they earn it out right. In 9 seasons I've had my Packers win one Super Bowl. It was a Double OT thriller capped by a 50 yd. TD pass from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson, defeating the Kenny Stabler led Raiders. The game had many opportunities to go either way. Very exciting and legit!
  2. Yeah, its a mini tournament with basically a 3 game qualifier round, where you can suffer one loss. Single elimination once the playoff bracket is set.
  3. Bob, yes all teams 3-0, and 2-1 will qualify for the playoffs. In a 3 game schedule, it provides a lot of cool scenarios. A team losing their first game is still in, but has the pressure of winning the next two. In a game 3 match up between two teams at 1-1, it's a win your In scenario and the losing team is out. The random draw does keep things fresh. It's still fun to draw a division rivalry and it's surprising to see how often some teams get matched up back to back years. In regard to your question, I don't allow teams to be matched up more then once during the regular season. I would redraw another opponent. That has happened before. In the playoffs they can play again. Also, since a team has to have atleast one home game, when drawing the 3rd round of games, teams still trying to meet that criteria can't play each other. A new opponent is drawn that already has a home game scheduled. Some teams have 2 home games and some will have 1.
  4. Hello. Just wanted to share my playoff format. My league now includes and is capped at 34 teams. This past year I've finally acquired all of the 32 NFL teams. I've also included the Houston Oilers and to make an even number, added an extra Packer All Star team. ( My favorite team.) I have a 3 game regular season which is randomly drawn. My boys help me make the schedule, drawing gum balls from a bucket with the teams names on them. Every team has to have at least one home game. I do not break things down into division or conference. I still get a fair share of good rivalry type games, or make some new league rivalries. To qualify for the playoffs you have to win at least 2 of the 3 games. The 3-0 teams will of course have the higher seeds. I do a power ranking based on record and then point differential. If teams happen to be tied, they are separated by head to head, common opponent, then most points scored. Last year, I had 32 teams in my league and 15 qualified for the playoffs. The top seed was the only team with a bye. Each year it may fluctuate a little, but I will adjust the bracket accordingly and seed based off of the power rankings. Last season my final four all consisted of NFC teams; Vikings, 49ers, Saints, and Lions. My Super Bowl was the 49ers defeating the Lions.
  5. I was trying to place which Christmas that I received my Super Bowl board featuring the Raiders vs. Eagles. It was either 81' or 82'. I believe it was the first Super Bowl board that had the short rails. It was that medium 32" x 16" playing surface.
  6. I was very disappointed to find out about the Uni Forms to no longer include the action figures with the purchase. I discovered that on my last two teams, when they showed up without. I sent out an email to inform that they were missing.... and now I know. Fortunately I have most of the teams I desired, and still have a lot to apply. Not sure moving forward if I will keep purchasing them without the inclusion of the figures.
  7. It is pretty rare, but cool when they happen. In a recent game, I had Russell Wilson taking one late in the game from a sack up the middle by Doug English of the Detroit Silver Rush. I've also had in the past when a QB steps on the end line rolling out for a pass but not getting it off in time.
  8. Nice job Daryl. Consistency with the Uni-Forms is definitely a challenge. Over all, I'm liking how my teams are turning out. Some players end up with a few unique character traits. Don't know if I've quite pulled off the "perfect" application on a player yet. Happy with my latest two teams... the 69 white jersey Eagles and the Home Houston Oilers. Able to match up in my latest game. Both teams were 0-2. The Eagles were able to get in the win column with a 28-17 victory on 4 Ron Jaworski touch down tosses.
  9. I still have 2 NFL team boxes that came with my first board, which was not a Super Bowl Board, but it included the Cowboys and Steelers. It was from the late 70's, between 77-79. I think it was a medium size board. The rails were covered in team names with fancy block and cursive style writing.
  10. I also like to use passing sticks. I use a home made version that is slightly different then Tudor's. Sticks can always be modified to match the completion percentage that you desire for your league. This season I've added extra distance for pressure if a defender is within 2 yards of the QB. I know it can be time consuming to read the open receivers and judge the defenders position. I allow up to 3 stops for someone to get open, but only allow the receiver and defenders to pivot toward the marker on the final stop. My one dilemma with passing sticks involves a receiver in the end zone. Sometimes the stick extends out of bounds or he is open but has to pivot across the length of the end zone to set the marker. Does any one have a good solution or rule to help remedy this issue?
  11. In my solitaire league, I also allow a defender to make a tackle on the ball carrier with the front and side of their base but not the rear of the base. I count this as a broken tackle, if the player on offense bounces off the rear of a defenders base and is able to gain more yardage. On the other hand if a defender slams into the rear of the ball carrier's base I call that a forced fumble simulating stripping the ball.
  12. I save a collection of bases that are messed up from tweaking. Some have a slight movement or spin in a circle. I use those for the QB staying in the pocket or a slight roll out.
  13. I currently don't allow throw away passes, but I was considering that option in regard to the 20 yard drop back. If the quarterback gets to that point a decision has to be made. He either has to pass to an open receiver, or he may be pivoted and has to scramble back toward the line of scrimmage. Unengaged blockers and defenders may be pivoted at this point. The third option could be a throw away and loss of down.
  14. I haven't really given much benefit to the home team, but I'm considering on those "too close to call" plays to giving the benefit of the doubt to the Home team, rather then the offense. Also, I just started rolling the dice to determine penalties after each play. Though it is a low percentage, maybe only one or two penalties per game, it seems they too often happen on a critical play like a TD or Int. I may give the Home team the opportunity to negate one penalty per game if they so choose.
  15. Nice job! They look good. My first team I completed was the Away Packers, and I just completed the Home Raiders. I think they both turned out pretty good. Inspired to do more. Definitely need some patience and the technique will improve the more you do. You definitely have to be fine with some imperfections. Over all, like you I get some enjoyment out of it.
  16. Greetings to all. I've enjoyed many of the discussions and topics in the forum and have learned a lot from all of the coaches. A lot has changed since I began playing as a kid in the late 70's. My first tudor board featured the Super Bowl teams the Cowboys and Steelers. The next year at Christmas, I received the NFC central featuring my favorite Packers and the Bears, Lions, Vikings, and white jersey Bucs. So, I had 7 teams to start my first season. The Bears would beat the Steelers in my first Super Bowl. I started building from there, picking up the NFC West and then the AFC West. A few years later I picked up a Super Bowl board featuring the Eagles vs. Raiders which I still have. A couple of years ago, I picked up a modern quieter Pro Bowl board which I've enjoyed with a Lambeau Field skin. I played four full seasons, but never completed the fifth until 2 years ago when I got back into the hobby. It was a long lay off from the early 1980's. A new discovery was passing sticks and I now use 12 plays per quarter instead of a stop watch. I play a 3 game regular season, in which you need 2 wins to qualify for the playoffs. The playoff seedings are structured on wins and point differential. I don't have divisions or conferences and the regular season is scheduled by random draw. I've implemented some new rules and tweak things based on a lot of input from coaches I've read in this forum. Its been fun getting back in to the game. I recently have tried the new Tudor Uniforms. Completing my away Packers and home Raiders teams. I feel like they turned out a lot better then I initially expected and will be trying many more. I'm trying to acquire home and away uniforms for all of my teams. It definitely takes some technique and patience. I like the variety of jerseys you can acquire, especially some of the classic throw backs.
