  1. Hi fellow Coaches and Forumites, Now that the NCAA has allowed players to wear the number 0 starting this season, are any of you thinking about incorporating it into your own rosters? I literally just found out about this after watching the whacky ending of the Rutgers game last weekend and noticing that one of the wideouts was sporting a goose egg on his uniform. 🤔 I always enjoyed seeing Jim Otto's "Double Bucks" on his Jersey, so I'm going to include 0 and 00 in my solitaire league (as two separate numbers). I may even consider putting them on some of my NFL Teams down the line. Commish. Goodell can't fine me for that afterall....er, right guys? 😁 Stay safe out there, -PK
  2. Awesome, thanks for the info. I'll order a box sometime next month! 😁
  3. Dumb question, I'm sure, but would the horses still run on a regular Electric Football field? I'm getting together some ideas for a halftime show. 😆
  4. Thanks for the insight, Coach Kinchen. I think even Eltoro49 mentioned that his fields are a bit noisier than the Tudor ones. I live alone so that's not really a problem, but I'm sure it would be for families and people with close neighbors. My field is a 50 yard field with 17 yards of Endzones, scaled to 42" x 18". The reason I want to do two different covers is that one is going to have 7 and 10 yard Endzones, and the other is going to have 5 and 12 yard Endzones.... I know, it's odd. My logic is that in Arena (and Electric) football wind is not a factor; therefore, both Offenses can attack the larger Endzone since the Defense doesn't need a big Endzone to return fumbles and interceptions. It would also save me a set of Goalposts. 😆 I currently have two Galvanized 24 gauge sheets cut to size. One is pretty straight, but the other got beat up pretty hard in shipping and will need some work getting the dents out. If I have to I can just do two separate boards. I'm just trying to see if it's worth it.
  5. Hi fellow Coaches and Forumites, Do any of you have any experience with putting field covers on both sides of a sheet metal field? How does it affect performance? I'm looking to make two custom covers, and would like to save money and space. I know that it would encompass making a "floating" motor system of some sort, probably like the one Eltoro49 has per the videos on his YouTube channel. Thanks! -PK
  6. Thanks for all the info guys! I think for now I'm going to stick with my Left End/Left Hand, Right End/Right Hand set up, but I will definitely tinker around with some of your set ups as well. I'm always learning something new about this fascinating game. 😁
  7. Interesting selections, Rick. One thing I think that I do differently than most coaches, is that I use one set of Regular figures and one set of 67 Big Men- 22 figures, plus 3 TTQBs. My thought process is that the Big Men are 6'4" and above, and the Regular Figures are 6'3" and below. I'm still working on measuring the actual figure heights, but I calculated them to be around 6'6" and 6'2" using a 5/8" to 1 yard scale.
  8. Makes sense, I still erase with my right hand despite being a Southpaw because I started doing that at a young age- no real reason why. Old habits are hard to justify sometimes. 😁
  9. Awesome stuff, I'm always interested in what other coaches are doing. What I've typically been doing is using the Sprinters and Runners as the Left and Right Ends (Split, Tight, AND Defensive) depending on the respective raised hand. I also use them as slotbacks, flankers, wingbacks, runningbacks, etc. but I still typically try to keep them on the same side as their raised hand. Maybe it's just my OCD. 🤔 For the other figures I more or less mirror what you use (with a TTQB on the board at all times- just feels like a shame to not use him 😆). I've thought about taking some of the the All Purpose figures and trying to heat them up and "mold" the arms into the same position as the Backer figs, but I'm scared I'd just end up with a lot of melted plastic and bitter tears. 😆 Tall guy has a couple videos of him doing something like that.
  10. For sure, I can't wait for my board materials to arrive! I'm going to try drawing up a mock playbook this weekend if I get the time. I'll post it here, terrible handwriting and all. 😁
  11. Hi fellow Coaches and Forumites, Other than the obvious fact that one has his left hand up and the other has his right hand up, what are the main differences in the Runner and Sprinter figures? Are they more or less interchangeable, and if not which position(s) do you typically use each figure for? Thanks, -PK
  12. Oh yeah, I remember seeing an opponent use the A11. My state (NC) was actually one of the first places to ban it during my senior year of High School. I would definitely watch a whole League of A11. I'm addicted to whacky formations and trick plays as it is. 😆 That's actually the one thing that I want to do with my 7 man league- the AFL and most indoor leagues are way too strict with their formation requirements, especially on Defense. In my league, as long as you have 3 guys on the line on Offense and only send 3 blitzers on Defense, you can basically do anything you want. 😁
  13. Hi fellow Coaches and Forumites, While I am waiting on some materials to arrive to build my board (along with some more paychecks to come in for additional materials 😆), I had an interesting idea regarding eligible Receivers for my 7 man league that I wanted to run by you all. What if, instead of determining eligibility by number/position/placement on the line/backfield/etc, you are allowed to pick any 4 players you want and can designate them as eligible receivers? Do you want 3 WRs and a Lineman as a Tight-End/Fullback? Do you want 4 WRs, 2 Linemen, and an Ineligible QB? How about all 3 Linemen and the QB eligible, and keep the Receivers back to really mess with the Defense's blocking assignments? Pretty nutty stuff, right? The Eligiblity Rules I had thought of are as follows: 1) Eligible Receivers can be any 4 players on offense, designated with a specific color base, string tied around the figure, or something else to delineate them (still working on this part). 2) Ineligible Receivers cannot cross the line of scrimmage with the ball - therefore, do you sacrifice an QB scramble for a 4th Eligible Receiver? 3) Regardless of Eligibility, there must be 3 players on the line and 4 in the backfield. You can choose to spread or condense the line spacing and backfield placement however you wish as long as there isn't any blatant stacking outside of the tackle box. 4) Regardless of Eligibility, all backfield players are eligible to go in motion per usual American Football rules (one player at a time, must be lateral or backward motion, etc). 5) Eligibility is determined after lining up in formation, but prior to the snap. This gives the Defense time to adjust but still allows the Offense to motion. Any thoughts?
  14. It's funny that you mention that. I'm currently drawing up a 50 yard field cover and I was actually thinking about doing the 5 yard markers like this one after I first saw it. 10 yards are cluttered enough! The only difference is I would move the hashes closer together, like in the NFL. These hashmarks are pretty far apart- not quite sure how you'd spot the ball for play. 🤔
  15. That top one is pretty rad! The lack of 5 yard lines is actually cool looking to me, though I know some people's OCD probably acts up looking at it. 😆
  16. I've been looking into using something like a "weight-bracket" system, though I don't quite have the numbers figured out. For example, let's say the first two grams are worth 50lbs and the third gram is something bigger, let's say 75lbs. Unaltered players tend to weigh around 2.2-2.5 grams in my (limited to Tudor Fab 5 figures) experience, so that'd put a baseline player weight of around 135lbs. A bit light for the modern era, but I'm sure there's been at least a handful of older NFL players around that weight in the past. Then, let's make the 4th and 5th grams worth 100lbs. This would lead to a 4 gram figure weighing 275, and a 5 gram figure weighing 375lb, which is about the top end of a real life football player. I know some people like to play with 6+ gram Monsters, so the numbers can be tilted accordingly. Any thoughts?
  17. Awesome, I will look into them. My friend plays Dungeons and Dragons, and while I'm not really interested in the game itself, he does paint some pretty cool miniatures and custom dice. I will have to ask him where he gets the miniatures from.
  18. Man, I haven't heard some of those names in awhile. I could use a good football movie night, so I might have to find a DVD of the Replacements on eBay. 😆 The biggest thing I want to do different than the AFL (R.I.P.) is to offer some variety in formations. I like how in the 11 man game you can do 4-3, 3-4, 5-2, I-formation, Emptyback, 3 TEs, etc with associated risks and benefits to each. However, in most indoor leagues, the Defense is forced to only use the 3-2-3 and the Offense only gets to chose between 3 formations. To me, that restricts a lot of the creativity- not to mention kills any chance of cool trick plays and gadget formations (like the Swinging Gate or Tackle-Spread). The more I look at it, the more I'm kind of leaning towards the 3 WR + 1 TE route, mainly because it would use more Fab 5 Linemen figures and fewer Sprinter/Runner figs on field per play. 🤔
  19. Hi fellow Coaches and Forumites, I'm sure at this point you have all read about me blathering about my 7 man EF Solitaire League(s) that I'm hoping to have up and running by the end of the year, so I'll cut to the chase. In short, I have a minor dilemma that I was hoping you guys could give me some feedback about. 😁 When I was initially thinking of 7 man football, I had 7-on-7 Special Teams drills in mind: A Center, a Blocking Fullback, a Punter (or in this case, a Quarterback), and 4 WRs. Since there are 5 Eligible Receivers, this would theoretically open the field up for more passing, but reduce the Running Game to mostly End-Arounds, Jet-Sweeps, Reverses, FB Dives, and QB keepers. Here are some basic rules of the "4 WR style": * The Offense can have up to 3 Pass Blockers- the Center, Fullback, and a WR. * Only the C, FB, and QB can lineup between the hashmarks ("the Alley"); the WRs have to line up outside of the Alley. * All players are Eligible Receivers except for the C and QB. * 3 Players must line up on the Line of Scrimmage - 2 WRs and the C; or 1 WR, the C and the FB. * All players in the backfield can go in motion, as long as they do not Leave/Stop in the Alley, respective to their position. * Offensive Alley Players can stack (i.e. Ace formation). WRs cannot stack. * The Offense can have up to 3 WRs on the same side of the field. However, if I were to go more true to an Indoor Football set up, there should be 2 Linemen, 1 Tight End/Fullback (herein, "Flexback"), 1 QB, and 3 WRs who can double as Running Backs. It would reduce the passing game to just 4 Eligible Receivers, but would allow more pass blocking protection, more options for the running game, and reduce the effectiveness of the Overload Blitz. Here are some rules of the "3 WR style": * The Offense must line up 3 players on the line- the 2 Linemen and either the Flexback or 1 WR (i.e. a Split End) * The 3 WRs and the Flexback are the only Eligible Receivers. * All players in the backfield can go in motion, including the Flexback if he is off-line. * Only the Center, QB, and one additional Player can stack (i.e. the Ace formation or the Offset I-formation). The additional Player can be the Flexback or one of the WRs. * WRs can line up however they wish as long as all other rules are followed. The rules for the Defense would be the same regardless: * The Defense has to line up 3 players in the Alley- they can do 1, 2, or 3 Linemen; and 1 or 2 Linebackers as desired. * The Defense can rush up to 3 blitzers (any player, not just the "Alley" Players), but would run the risk of a quick dump pass, of getting burned on 1-on-1 Coverage, etc. * The Defense can cover with up to 6 players, but would run the risk of opening them up for the Running Game. Any thoughts or preferences? I'm all ears. 😁 Thanks, -PK
  20. Oh definitely, Al and Dave both posted the fantasy team threads that inspired me to try this out. Between them and Mutant League Football, I think I will have plenty of inspiration for this League. 😁
  21. Al, these are all AWESOME suggestions! I'm going to see what paints I already have and make a note of any I would need to order, but you and Dave have given me a lot of good ideas to ponder. Dave's Tails and your Saturn Rings are especially inspiring. 😆 Instead of facemasks, I'm thinking about making face shields like an astronaut- I mean they'll be playing on each other's planets and all. 😁 I'm not 100% sure how to go about doing that properly- I was going to try an epoxy but I'm worried it won't dry clearly and/or will make them a real pain to work on later should I decide to redesign or repurpose them. However, I also don't think I will be able to find any plastic that I could size to the right size either. Decisions, decisions. 🤔 For the logos, I was thinking about simply using the astrological symbols (i.e. the Circle and Spear for Mars, the "Hand Mirror" for Venus, etc) like the ones in the attached picture I got from Wikipedia. I also am fascinated by Greek/Roman mythology, so I might put the appropriate God/Goddess on the Jersey in homage (if I can draw or find a decent pic somehow). Thanks again guys!
  22. Great idea! I will snag some "Green Stuff" and maybe watch a couple Star Wars/Star Trek movies for ideas. 😆
  23. And just for the record, the difference in the two Leagues is that these guys are going to be my Passing Sticks and Dice League, so I won't be using TTQBs/Kickers. I'm also going to iron-man them, both to save money and to cut down on base tweaks- I MAY sneak a Fab 5 player in there to make an even 14 players per team (I play 7 figures per side). 😁
  24. Good day, fellow Coaches and Forumites! In my previous post, I explained that I was going to make a team based on the 8 extraterrestrial Planets - Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. I decided to make these teams with some Mean 13s, which of course means I will have to paint them. Therefore, I am writing this post to get your suggestions for color schemes, mascot ideas, etc. Since they're going to be aliens, I'm also going to paint their skin tones in "alien" colors like blue, green, gray, etc so if you have any ideas for that I am also interested. Thanks for reading! -PK
  25. After some further rumination, I have decided that I'm going to keep the figures I have right now as the Cities and Countries option. However, I'm going to buy some Mean 13 figures this Winter and make "Planet" teams out of those - that way, I can pick my own color schemes verses having to stay within the limits of the prepainted figs I bought. Thanks again to everyone for your vote! I will get plenty of pics and details on the Teams as I'm finishing them up, and I'll have a separate post where you all can offer suggestions on color schemes and such for them. 👍
