  1. Thanks for the feedback. I decided to pull the trigger on some decals from Beenutt. I really like EKU’s helmet logo and I’m pretty confident that I won’t be able to reproduce it myself without being disappointed in the end product. So I’ll try out some decals and see how it goes. Off-topic, but I’ve really enjoyed your website lately. It’s fun for someone who wasn’t exposed to electric football until the Miggle days in the 90’s to see the history of it. Also, I’m not on Facebook. It’s a bummer that most of the hobby has seemed to move to Facebook, so I appreciate that you’ve provided another platform to enjoy it through.
  2. I recently moved into a new house with more property and space. That, and the fact that I work a stressful job, has led me down the path to seeking more productive ways of relaxing at home. One way I’m trying to do this is by getting into painting. I made a go of it a year or so ago but I wasn’t happy with the results nor was I trying to enjoy the process. So, that’s the key to my new approach. Enjoy the painting as a hobby in itself, rather than as work to be done to get to more enjoyable. That, combined with the fact that I seem to have gotten better at it, is making this more enjoyable. I thought I’d share my progress and questions along the way. For my first project, I’m taking on my alma mater and favorite football team, the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. They have a relatively simple uniform and I already have a custom board waiting for them. Attached is a picture of their uniforms for reference and the first picture of my progress. I’ve primed and painted skin colors on the offense and gotten the base color done on 4 players. The goal is 11 dark-colored offensive players and 11 light-colored defensive players. You can see that I’m incorporating the Mean 13 into this team. This will probably be the only team that I do this with. If I ever find a league or get into competitive play, this is the team I’ll want to use, so I like the unique players for it. Anything else I paint will just be for solitaire or people playing at my house so I’ll just stick to the Fab 5. One question I’m currently debating is uniform numbers and details. I’ve thought about decals but a brief view of Beenut’s tutorial video made it look too complex for my liking. I think I’m going to attempt painting uniform stripes and the helmet logos. But the numbers I don’t know about. I don’t want to paint them, as they’re too big and important a detail for me to want to free-hand. But as others have expressed, the Tudor stickers aren’t great. Their newer white ones seem improved but I’ll want burgundy or maroon for the away uniforms. I bought a sheet of those for my first go and still have them, but Tudor seems to have stopped carrying them. I’m curious if anyone knows of other options or if maybe decals aren’t as bad on the numbers since they’re a little larger.
  3. I never had that exact board but I had the Super Bowl edition they were manufacturing right around the same time. I got it as a kid, probably in 1997 or 1998. Miggle released that Monday Night game right around the same time and, as far as I know, they were built the same way, just with a slightly different paint job. Mine played very well and continued to do so when I got back out a few years ago after years of sitting in storage. It did get a little warped in one corner but that didn’t affect gameplay much. It was a good board and I imagine yours will be too.
  4. Thanks! The only stats I plan on keeping are team rushing and passing yards. I got rid of my computer awhile back so I’m limited in what I can easily do. However, I am thinking about starting a thread here where I would post some game updates, pictures, and maybe an occasional video if I can figure that out.
  5. A few of them. A couple Sounders scarves, because I used to follow them pretty closely and a Columbus Crew one because I’m from Ohio. Then there’s a national team one, one from Berlin when I took a trip there, and Detroit City FC, a minor league team in Detroit, where I live now. I take it you’re a soccer fan?
  6. Sure! There really isn’t much to it. Just a 10 x 10 room that was already framed when we bought the house. I’m not really handy but I thought I’d drywall it and make a little place for myself. The highlight is the fact that I no longer have to pack up the electric football when I’m done.
  7. My Eastern Kentucky 308 board from Reginald Rutledge in my recently completed basement man-cave.
  8. Well, I think I’m slow, but it seems to take me about an hour to get through a quarter. I’ve only finished a couple games like this though so I’m hoping to get a little faster. I experimented with another format that I thought would be quicker where each team got 2 possessions and that was it, but it didn’t seem much faster and I didn’t like the feel of it as much. I also have 2 young kids to contend with so it’s rare for me to get in time without interruption. I did just finish building a little man-cave which lets me keep the game out and set up, so I’m hoping that speeds things up too.
  9. Not exactly new to the hobby, but only recently have I started getting serious about it and this is the first post I’ve made. Thought I’d share the setup of my solitaire league. It’s an 8 team league divided into 2 divisions, the East (Bengals, Browns, Lions, Packers) and the West (Broncos, Cowboys, Rams, 49ers). Each team plays 5 games, 3 against their division opponents, and 2 against teams from the other division. I haven’t settled on a playoff format yet. I like systems that reward division winners with a bye or something, so I’m torn between 2 formats. There’s a 6 team playoff, where the division winners get a bye, but I’m not crazy about 75% of the league making the postseason. My other option is to use a Page playoff, something common in Australia. The two division winners would play each other in the first playoff game, with the winner going to the final. The 3 & 4 seed would play each other, with the winner advancing to play the loser of the first game. The winner of that third game would advance to the final. As for the games, I use 8 play quarters. I also use the TTQB for passing. I’m intrigued by passing sticks, but I like the practice. To call plays, I’ve developed a simple system that I think lets me maintain some control and creativity, while still giving each team its own personality and not getting too complex. I’ve developed 8 different offenses, one for each team, that consist of 6 different formations. At the start of a play, unless it’s an obvious goal line or Hail Mary play, I roll a dice to determine the formation. I set up the offense, including angling receivers in anticipation of what might come and the down and distance situation is. Then, without knowing the specific play, I setup the defense. Each team is either a 3-4 or 4-3, which determines how many down lineman I use. From then I setup to try and cover as much of the field as possible and account for the game situation. Finally, another dice roll determines run or pass. Some formations are balanced, meaning 1-3 is run and 4-6 is pass. Others might be run or pass heavy, meaning I adjust the odds one way or the other. I don’t have specific plays. Instead, I determine routes, run direction, etc. based on what the defense is showing and the game situation. So yeah, just thought I’d share my system. I’d love to hear any thoughts or questions or ideas. I may also start a thread with game recaps and what not, but it’s slow going. I’ve only finished about a game and a half and it took me an hour to get through a quarter today.
